The chiefs should be glad that government is doing something to improve the lives of the people and provide jobs for the area I remember that during the election campaign these same chiefs boycotted Mahama`s visit to the area. Pa Kwesi Ndoum is probably pulling the strings behind this agitation, but these chiefs should put the best interest of their people before their own selfish interests. There are other fishing towns and communuties who gladly welcome and support such project in their areas.

Now,compare Indians to Africans who,despite having the richest continent on earth,still wallow in abject poverty,illiteracy and superstition - all because of the antiquated cultural traditions buttressed by chieftaincy.

Rawlings had the opportunity to abolish chieftaincy - but he was young,visionless and drunk with power, and allowed the last opportunity to slip by.Today,this antedilluvian institution is recognized in our Constitution(thanks to Rawlings),and politicians can't wait to kiss these parasites'rear-ends(Mahama gave them SUVs before the 2012 elections).

To advance the social,economic and political imperatives necessary for this country to move in the direction of Singapore or Malaysia,we must abolish chieftaincy and institute real MERITOCRACY.

I am not only surprised but disgusted at the kind of negative responses I am reading in reaction to the action and stance of the chiefs. Do you guys really think only the chiefs have reservations about the location of the harbour, besides the complaint about not being consulted?

Ghana and the rest of Africa is littered with either fully or partly completed abandoned "devt projects," overgrown with bush 'cos of precisely non-consultation with local people! The officials in Accra and in the offices in Cape Coast are not the ones going to use the harbour so have no clue where the people think is the best location for it. And the chiefs represent the people locally and no doubt know what they want. The "best" location technically may not even be the best socially, and if it is imperative, tack is needed to persuade the chiefs and people to accept that, e,g., move their shrines after the usual propitiation of the goddess, of course.:-)

The DCE must be taken to task for failing to do his duty to inform and consult, and perhaps, modify whatever plan was on the board from the K4 era. As for this, until I heard otherwise something to convince me, I am absolutely behind the chiefs and people of Elmina in this rumpus. I support their boycott!

By the way, why do these chiefs want to be consulted? We need a technical expertise and the required funds to implement the project. Do they have all this? The only thing in their hands is mysticism,juju and ritual ceremony. We don't need all this to do the work. Let these chiefs be in their place until they are officially requested to give their opinion. The African traditional chiefs are the ones who sold our ancestors to the white men as slaves, they are the ones who collaborated with the white man to colonize us. Their traditions they pretend to safeguard don't help Africa to develop rather to regress.
The President should instruct one of his Minsters to meet them, listen to them and serve them palm wine later on to drink.It will cool them down. But the most import is to create jobs for the youth and not for them and their numerous wives.

I am lost 4 words. This fishing harbor projects is long time coming. Since time immemorial, gov't after gov't has been deceiving the people of Elmina with this same harbor project. As much as the people need the fishing harbor, there are so much that need to be put into consideration b4 it could be built including its impact on the environmental (beaches) et al.
One more thing, the fact that the harbor is needed does not mean that the gov't can walk over anybody and build it anywhere it chooses, irrespective of any potential negative impact that it could have on the people including the owners of the land, lost of property, and people getting displaced etc. Like they say, be careful of what you wish for, otherwise your dream could turn into a nightmare and your blessing becomes a curse.
What needs to be done is a thorough investigation into the whole scenario before anyone starts pointing accusing fingers at anybody. If Elmina with its rich history as related to Ghana and even to Africa were to be in some developed country, the tourism industry alone could catapult this ancient town into a vibrant and rich town. They don't call it "Aborokyir Kakra" for nothing. Remember it was "discovered' 10 good years b4 America was "discovered". So all things being equal, Elmina or Ghana for that matter could have been ten years ahead of the United States in terms of development etc. I could go on and on but all I have to say is that everybody should chill and simmer down and gather all the facts b4 we start fighting and like I said before, point accusing fingers at each other because like they say when two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.
Elmina needs the fishing harbor, no doubt about it, but the harbor alone can't solve all the problems that this all important ancient town of mother Ghana needs even though fishing industry is the life-blood of the town. Look at Sekondi for example, it has a fishing harbor built but some parts of Sekondi looks more dead than alive and even worse than b4. Fact is, problem still exists, even some problems that the harbor was supposed to solve has become worse.
Remember some of the beautiful beaches in Elmina would forever be lost and that is a big sacrifice that all 'Edinafo" should consider and be willing and ready to sacrifice (no pain, no gain). I remember about a year or two ago, gold was supposed to have been found at the beaches of Elmina but was apparently not exploited because of its negative environmental impact on the beaches and the sea.
So to conclude let’s all take a deep breath, relax and gather all facts b4 we start hurting each other and put everything... pros and cons in all aspects into consideration , b4 anything could finally be done in peace, love and unity for all Edinafo in particular and Mother Ghana in general. EDINA YE WO ADZE...YE WO ADZE A OYE. NAN BENYA MBA, YE WO ADZE OYE. Let’s keep it going. Long Live Edinaman, Long Live Aborokyir Kakra!!! And long live Ghana. Stay blessed guys.

My neighbors objected, claiming I was violating zoning by building the Ark in my front yard, so I had to get a variance from the city planning commission.

Then I had a big problem getting enough wood for the Ark because there was a ban on cutting trees to save the Spotted Owl and Grass cutters. I had to convince Ghana. Fish and Wildlife that I needed the wood to save the owls. But they wouldn't let me catch any owls and Grass cutters. So no owls and Grass Cutters. Then the carpenters formed a union and went out on strike. I had to negotiate a settlement with the National Labor Relations Board before anyone would pick up a saw or a hammer. Now we have 16 carpenters going on the boat, and still no owls and Grass Cutters.
Then I started gathering up animals, and got sued by an animal rights group. They objected to me taking only two of each kind. Just when I got the suit dismissed, EPA notified me that I couldn't complete the Ark without filing an environmental impact statement on your proposed flood. They didn't take kindly to the idea that they had no jurisdiction over the conduct of a Supreme Being. Then the Army Corps of Engineers wanted a map of the proposed new flood plain. I sent them a globe.

Right now I'm still trying to resolve a complaint from the Equal Employment opportunity Commission over how many minorities like Ashanti,Ewes and Northerners I'm supposed to hire, the IRS has seized all my assets claiming I'm trying to avoid paying taxes by leaving the country because of the Galamasay I did in Elmina, and I just got a notice from the state about owing some kind of use tax. I really don't think I can finish your Ark for at least another five years," Noah wailed.

Know that passwords are case sensitive, which means if you sighed up the email with CAPITAL LETTERS, YOU CANNOT USE small letter to access it. In case you are typing everything correctly but still can't open, then click on "forgot my password" written is blue where you sign up . It will ask you some security questions you have answered earlier and follow the instruction.

It is not strange for Chiefs from that part of the country to refuse every development from building to construction. It is part of their history to direct all building materials to the Ashanti Region and keep the cheese, butter, corn-beef and can fish to build in their stomach. I wonder if they are not renting the king's palace from a Lebanese currently. Maybe they are ashamed to wear suit for the gathering when other coastal chiefs have on traditional clothing they don't have. Why not complain later after the activity ends? Leave them alone to stay with the best educated minds in Ghana without development. We have Tema, maybe Volta has one and Takoradi harbours. They are enough for Ghana. Let them build beef mansion in their belly.

You see, pride and arrongance from the chiefs for are depriving their own citizens and future generations from

b.. Economic Stability
c.. Decreasing Unemployment
d.. Increase economic and social revenue through tourism and taxes ..
