Majority of the judgement debts were caused by the Kuffuor NPP administration. This was the results of their greed and corruption where contracts were abrogated at anytime and rewarded to another contractor who was not part of the original bidders but ready to give a bigger kickback.

Once another contractor comes out of the blue and promise a big one, they take the job from the legitimate contractor and award it to a new one.

Even when there is money to payoff a contractor, because of disagreement in the amount of kickbacks to be paid, the final payment is either not made or delayed beyond reasonable limits. Contractors had to go to court before getting their monies. By that time, because of interest rates, a small debt will balloon to several millions.

Well, this is what I learnt in my MBA Finance class. There's is a concept of compounding and the power of 72. Divide 72 by the interest rate. The answer you get is approximately the number of years it takes for the money you invest or borrow at that interest rate to double through compunding. Example, if I borrow GHC10,000 at 12% interest rate, then in 6 years (72/12), the amount I owe would be GHC20,000 (assuming I never paid anything at all within the 6 years).
