But Govt Officials and Appointees are 'Causation Factors' of CEPS' woes.

I am sure this 35 year old man was imposed on the CEPS. I am saying this because I know for a fact that this issue of 'Over-Age' recruits came up during the tenure of Nii Adjei as Commissioner. The Recruitment Age was subsequently reduced to 28.

The Commissioner took a lot flak from Ministers, Appointees and Party Big Wigs because he would not compromise and allow those above age to be recruited.

The Age Limitation is more than a Health Issue. The training cost of a Younger Recruit benefits more years of service to the CEPS. Also the Energy and Focus and drive of Younger Recruits is relatively higher as is the Health aspect which cannot be ruled out as a Causation Factor in the youngman's untimely, unfortunate and avoidable death. May his soul RIP

He explained that the recruits were met at a bridge (about a kilometer from the school) around 2:30pm last Saturday where the drill started until 4:30 pm when they reached the entrance of the school. Recruits were refused water and rest, although they appeared visibly weak and exhausted by the drill. Those who attempted resting were “lashed and forced to continue” Kekeli narrated.

As in the military,recruit training is supposed to be rigorous and follow acceptable medical standards.It is not meant to be some form of punishment just because one has opted to serve one's country by joining the CEPS. I think there should be an overhaul of the training system at CEPS in the light of this tragedy in order to avert any future occurence.

How can a 35 year oldman be recruited into the service? I joined the military in 1975 and had the same "welcome" treatment at the Armed Forces Recruits Training Center (AFRTC) in Tamale. What I know is that the recruitment age is (was) between 18 en 24 year. And after serving a maximum of 18 years you can go on pension. So let's say if one joined at the age of 18 and serves for 18 years, he or she will be 36 year when he or she goes on pension. So I find is very strange that he was recruited at the age of 35. He was too old to endure the "welcome"treatment. May his soul rest in peace.

Logic would allow each recruit to settle in, be briefed, and undergo strenuous medical exams before any type of physical exercises begin. Clearly this was not done and as a result we have a death on our hands. This could have been prevented. Even videos that I have seen of the US Naval Seals training is not that harsh for recruits prior to entering the institution. At best this is "bullying" hazing" or sheer brutality. This practice or tradition ought to stop and be reviewed.
