It was a frivolous case without merit in the first place. Many of us, including some astute NPP supporters in Ghana and on this very Ghanaweb, had said so.

You have to be delusional and very superstitious to believe that the SC can cancel the 4 million votes and declare Nana Akufo Addo the winner! The worst they could have done is call for a re-vote but the grounds for that was even very flimsy, and that was not even the relief the NPP sought.

Had Dr. Afari Gyan given them two days extra to vent their spleens and listened to their complaints, show them some original copies which were signed while their Pink sheets weren't and explained to them why, instead of telling them off to Go To court, they wouldn't have gone to court! That's why I am already recommending that, as part of electoral reforms to be implemented, a CI should be passed prohibiting the EC from declaring results for up to a maximum of 5 days should a complaint be launched against any candidate or polls. Within that period, the EC, pol. party reps and High Court judge shall examine the complaints administratively. After that, the EC can declare the results and if any party is still unhappy, he/she can go to court. We SHOULD NEVER BE SUBJECTED TO THIS MACABRE CIRCUS AGAIN!

I think this case, to an appreciable extent entrenched the idea of rule of law. Assuming the Judges were not compromised in anyway- I really hope so, then abuse of incumbency has been finally relegated to the past.

Frivolous indeed. My only impression looking at the split of the votes among the SC justices is that the petitioners were rather hoping some of them would do them a favour.

However even the central core request of theirs for the SC to ANNUL votes and to hand the presidency to Nana Addo was NOT supported by a single justice!!! At best, those who favoured any portion of their petition suggested that there be a "RE-RUN in the affected areas".

Bottom line is, at worst, the judges would have been calling for a re-run in the myopically selected areas (for which the petitioners were seeking annulment). If that had been granted, it would have caused a great deal of confusion and frankly divided the country as it would have been the most bizarre, unfair and ridiculous judgment given the selective nature of the polling stations involved.

It is for these reasons that I am myself rather shocked and disappointed with the voting pattern of the judges and rather believe somehow the petitioners were relying on them to do for them what they were clearly unable to do at the ballot - win enough votes to make Nana Addo president.

This ruling is a victory for our democracy, freedom and true justice, nothing more, nothing less.

My honest opinion is that he was between a rock and hard place and no amount of explaining would have calmed the nerves, plus their supporters ahd already started to cause havoc across the country including the loss of innocent lives.

To me Dr Gyan did exactly the right thing, costly though it has been in many ways. It has also taught us areas where we need to improve our electoral processes and hopefully have checks and balances to avoid such crass and unnecessary court cases in the future.

My only hope that in the future, if NDC losses an election, they will not resort to the same ridiculous nonsense we have witnessed for most of the best part of this year!!!

When I first heard that one from a cousin here in London, I laughed it off as one bad "animo" concocted by NDC people against the NPP people but he claimed it was an NPP friend who told him! I forgot how gullible our people are. And that includes many wielding chains of degrees!

I would rather suggest two things. The constitution should be amended to make it mandatory to refer all election complaints to the EC in the first instance. If the aggrieved party is still not satisfied, they can seek a judicial review at the SC. There should be a time limit for resolving such disputes. This would force all parties to go to the EC with complaints rather than seek legal redress.

Just to bolster confidence in the process, I added the reps of the other parties and a high court judge acting as the chair, just in case the EC is accused of doctoring the results, etc.

I don't think people will just be complaining if there is no grounds to do so.

A political party's distinct ideology, policies, plans and methods should de the focus; not the cult of the individual flagbearer. When the individual is placed first before party's goals and objectives, the whole party can fail when the cultish individual fails to meet electorate expectations.

In the last presidential election, contrary to your expectations, it was Akufo Addo's personality that failed him and brought the NPP down with him. Akufo Addo's personality, credentials, attitudes, behaviours and statements were all highly questionable. The NPP could have done better with a more suitable choice.

Good for you if you believe Ashantis are evil. They are my people and I am not always supportive of some their social stance, but overall they are good people that I have no problem being part of. If haters of Ashantis have swords drawn, ready to do damage, when in fact Nana Akuffo-Addo is not an Ashanti. Then this "I hate Ashantis" posture being exhibited by the likes of you, is simply a place holder for a larger agenda. Like they say "we live to see".

I have nothing but love for my dear country Ghana, and truly believe that the type of democratic dispensation desired was manifested in the judgement made. As a people, your leaders- except visionary ones of course, are as good as your expectations of them. We should all hope and pray that, going forward believers in democratic governance embrace good governance and retire the opposite, regardless of political affiliation.

Although my Ghanian family keeps me well supervised, I find Ghana calm, safe and developing into a more prosperious country with every visit I make. Many Canadian friends worry about me when I travel, they call my travels to "a third world country". With 50+ years of democracy and calm, with rights of the people to vote for their leader you Ghanians should be proud. Barrack Obama could have chose Kenya to make his first African visit with his wife and family, yet he chose Ghana, and you proved to be safe, courteous and awesomely friendly ambassadors for your country. Sports fans sit up and take notice of Ghana's soccer team, a world contender many tournaments. Cadbury, Diageo, Movenpick, Holdiay Inn set up shop and do solid business in Ghana. I beg all Ghanians to stay calm, stay peaceful and let government and court decisions stay. As in all democratic countries, 4 years will give you another opportunity to vote again if your president proves to steer Ghana in the wrong direction. I beg you all, DO NOT MARR your perfect and peaceful reputation as a democratic country in a continent full of violence, poverty and corruption. I beg of this as a foreigner who loves GHANA.

Loser Nana is unconscious, his doctors rush in, is it a knock-out? Oh yes! A FATAL KNOCK OUT. The match is over! THE UNDEFEATED WINNER MAHAMA HAS RETAINED HIS TITLE.
The Judges scores are 9-0, 9-0, 9-0, 6-3, 5-4, 5-4. A unanimous decision in favour of Winner Mahama. In summary, the scores are 43-11-Is this a cricket, rugby or baseball score line. What a humiliating score line. I don’t think Loser Nana will call for another match with this shameful defeat. Yes, Nana says No RE-MATCH. HE IS CONSIDERING RETIREMENT. WHAT A RETIREMENT PACKAGE!
