Kojo T. please have mercy on Akufo Addo. I would suggest that Akufo Addo must be engaged by Mahama's government to become Trade and Investment Ambassador. He must use his accrued experienced as a business representative for Ghana. That way Ghana will profit from it and Akufo Addo will be rehabilitated in the political landscape of Ghana. The only prerequisite for such a position is he must renouce "All Die Be Die" which is a recipe for disaster. Otherwise I have no qualms with him representing Ghana as an envoy.

Politics is a game and has no age limits but rather have experience, skills, oratory skills etc as drivers of the game. Why should Nana Addo, should he be appointed as a minister or in any other capacity be considered a demotion? That does not make sense as far as politics is concerned.
The former British PM Tony Blair is an example of what politicians can do when they are no more in their previous positions. In the case of Nana Addo, he did not even get to the top most position as president.
The numerous senators, congress men and women of both houses of the United States who become panelists/commentators or assume different positions else where after their period of service ends are a testament against the flawed reasoning of Dr Jonah.
I would rather urge Nana Addo to get involved in politics if he chooses to come back after his break. Ghana needs the experience of such caliber of individuals to build and strengthen our democracy.
It is this type of attitude/assumption embraced by Dr Jonah that breeds pomposity amongst many a politician. The politician, and for that matter, an MP, former presidential candidate, a former Minister, are citizens just like any of us. The fact that they became and got those positions does not make them special individuals. In the eyes of the law, we are equal. They were rather elected and or appointed to serve the people.

It is a pity that some Ghanaian academicians feel that when they have their so-called doctorate degrees, they are above everybody. This paper means nothing especially in Ghana where we have a lot of them governing the country but we still live in the third-world, having no progress for the majority of the people and the little elite thieves continue to prosper and live in arrogance. There is nothing demotion for Nana to stand as a parlimentarian, it is rather patriotism to show his love for his country, telling all that he can still serve his country even as a law-maker. That will show Ghanaians that his desire to be president was purely to serve and not to lord over us. These doctors who cannot even write books to reflect Ghanaian way of life in our educational books should shut up. They are just carbon copy graduates who think that their mere paper is alfa and omega but to those of us illiterates, it is bullshit! Laurent Fabuis is a former French prime minister and is now the foreign minister, is it a demotion? No, sir. The current US secretary of state, John Kerry, was a former presidential candidate against George W. Bush but he did not deem it demeaning to accept the post of the secretary of state. Madame Merkel of Germany holds a doctorate degree and we barely hear the use of that title when she is addressed. Ghanaians who are doing nothing for the development of the country are just blowing us shit with their honourables.

Kuffour could have advised him earlier for the sake of the country as the Republican Party told Richard Nixon in 1962 against Kennedy. Nixon did not want to mount a petition that would have brought his country to have had a constitutional crises, a black eye in the eyes of the world and tore the country apart.
Al Gore took the same stand in 2000 against George Bush and said 'what that makes America great is that that unites us and not that that divides us'.

Nana Akuffo Addo stands accused of diverting valuable NPP human and material resources from the all important task of winning the NEXT election to that of a hopeless exercise motivated by bruised egos. The NPP faithful may not easily forgive him for this error of judgement. He must now endeavour to promote the party's interest by NOT BEING AN IMPEDIMENT THROUGH BACK SEAT MANIPULATIONS.
With time Nana Akufo Addo can expect his stature to increase significantly as he adopts the mantle of an elder statesman, a role which has largely eluded the controversial JJ Rawlings. The Erstswhile dictator through his own lack of wisdom and tendency to be meddlesome and manipulative has watched his own stock nose dive. Mr Rawlings is a study of how NOT to behave after leaving power or giving up political influence. Mr Rawlings has through his own effort sidelined himself from any meaningful future in Ghanaian political life.

I must congratulate Zizibo for his thought provoking piece especially where it concerns President Rawlings. I have been an admirer of JJ for a long time but I agree with Zizibo that JJ has in recent times done himself a lot of disservice by erratically meddling in NDC internal politics. What he should do is to reassert himself as the father of the party. He can be privately critical of the party and publicly supportive. That is what statesmen do. With regards to Nana its going to be impossible. He is belligerent and arrogant by nature. Whilst the two of them have a similar problem they are different in nature. Rawlings is genuine and sincere but has a proven track record as a democratic leader. Nana has failed miserably in his unbridled desire to lead this country. He is a bitter person. It will be difficult for him to let go.
With regards to NPP internal politics there can not be two leaders. Kufour has led the party to 2 victories whilst Nana has failed woefully on 2 occasions. That is his legacy.

So what advise would he give to anybody beside belonging to a purely tribal entity masquerading as a political party. Even in that party, the creative energies and aspirations of the young must be allowed to emerge instead of being submerged under the idiotic adulation of a man who failed as flag-bearer on two occasions. Throw him, Jake and all the old guard of the NPP out and start with fresh young and new faces with progressive ideas. Allow them to beat the NDC with ideas not insults. Enlarge your tent to accommodate more real Gas (not the Acquaye type), Ewes and the rest. And Arthur Kennedy should be in that train. Spend time on how to make Ghana a lawful, industrious and spotlessly clean country. Forget Nana, Kuffuor, Cash! The 'mate me ho' days are gone. Wake up.
