Ghanaian politicians will promise heaven on earth when they want to get power. All along, Kwertey knew the one time NHIS insurance was not possible, yet supported it and helped campaigned on it. Free education up to SHS level is possible and have always defended it. It is possible when students at such schools attend as DAY STUDENTS. Those who go as BOARDING STUDENTS must pay for their BOARDING AND LODGING. If Free SHS has worked in the regions up in the North of Ghana, why can't it work at the south.
If Patients are made to make some kind of reasonable co-payments, and made to pay for part of their medication outside the hospital at a pharmacy of their choices, the rot at the NHIS will be curtailed. As at now, it all free chop at the NHIS. As people are made to make co-payments, there can be little KULUULU at the hospitals.

The free secondary school education is achievable because the cost is far lower than the one time health care premium which involves the whole population. The free secondary education on the other hand will cover only those who actually have a place in secondary education and not even the totality of the Ghanaian youth. He is comparing oranges with apples in the usual Ghanaian politics of equalisation between NDC and NPP and that will not wash with some of us.
