That said, I hope this is not true but if really that happened then it is a low blow on the part of the president, it is a disrespect to the presidency to give that jet to a private citizen irrespective of his status in the society or the country.

Are we going to offer that jet to every prominent chief in the country and how will others feel if they are not given that special treatment?

How can we waste thousands of dollars on just one private citizen who always go on his leisure trip without our jet?

The government has to come out to clarify this issue.

For those defending this abominable practice perpetuated by John Mahama and his ilk as reward to the disgraceful Otumfuo for playing ball with them, I will like them to flip the script and imagine if this were to have been done by an NPP government.

What will the reaction of these NDC apparatchiks and talking heads be?

John Mahama is a very corrupt individual who has gained notoriety for his ability to buy everybody and anybody, and this issue, just goes to confirm it. Ghana is doomed under such leadership.

From priests to traditional leaders, there is absolutely no sense of integrity or patriotism. Everybody is only concerned with what is in it for themselves and their immediate families. I pray and hope that the next generation purges itself of such tendencies, otherwise, that dark continent is not going anywhere fast.

Don't you think people will start asking even more serious questions if the President breached security codes to allow the jet to be used by a traditional ruler when he is not on board?

Unless he traveled before the bribery allegation which i am bound to believe, this was a real bad timing indeed. Even if he traveled before the press report alleging the bribery, it was still bad timing considering that we just finished the court case that still have some people talking about errors and their implications in the judgement.

If there is only one accusation against this Asantehene, then one may dismiss it as unimportant, but there are so many accusations against this Asantehene it makes one wonder whether the Ashantis really have a king worthy of the Golden Stool. The few accusations I am aware of:

1. It is alleged he is a wanted criminal in the books of the Canadian Mounted Police for some unresolved crimes he committed at the time he was resident in Canada when he was notoriously known as Kwaku Dua.
2. His name came up prominently in the case of the missing cocaine from the MV Benjamin.
3. There were questions about the missing gold panaphenalia of the palace that disappeared mysteriously when he took them with him on a trip to one of the Scandinavian countries.
4. There were reports that he was involved in bribing the Supreme Court judges to decide the recent election petition in favour of President Mahama.
5. Rumor #4 had barely disappeared from the national gossip columns when he goes on a private trip in the Presidential jet, obviously provided by the President that he is rumoured to have helped retain his position through bribery.

I am not an Ashanti, but if I was, I will be terribly worried about the overall quality of character and wisdom of the person I have as my king. Perception is important; it looks as if this king is insensitive to public perception of the office and position he holds. The king of the Ashantis should walk on a much higher moral ground than that of his subjects. Or can it be that his subjects walk on such a much lower moral ground that all the above is appropriate for the king of the Ashantis? After all, in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is indeed King.
