I also see a problem when Brobbey Wereko, Arthur-K and others in NPP always find faults with the NPP and don't see the problems with GYEEDA, SASA, Alg, Agambire, etc and corruption going on in NDC. While they have the right to attack their own party, they should not lose the fact that they are in opposition and therefore has to begin to attack the NDC too.

Ghana is matching time. Mahama would end up being the most useless President we had ever had. You don't need to be a political scientist or rocket scientist or Prophet to predict this.

Dr. Arthur Kennedy and all the PhD holders along with medical officers on the leadership of NPP must revisit their history lessons and or learn from historical mistakes of others and may find that what the NPP stand for is neither natural nor befitting of people who have logical thought processes.
For starters, the belief that it is through multi-political party system one can attain individual liberties and freedoms of expression is a fallacy only Africans and or former colonies of the British, French, German and Portuguese empires can assert. A review of the history of nations that gained their independence from colonial rule who made the mistakes of free market principles and all the supposedly good things that drives the NPP assertions did suffer from the very classic social stratification of nations with one percent filthy rich class and everyone else poor which existed under colonial rule. In India the very few families with majority of the wealth obtained their riches once the government decided to sell national properties. In the USA the families that were allowed to buy most of the natural, mineral and railroad service have held on to their wealth till today. The same is true in Brazil and in Russia. It is not a coincidence that the Danquah and the Busia's of Ghana wanted Nkrumah and his CPP to undertake the very same route to enable these families buy Ghana since there were a few rich families in Ghana right after our independence. The desire to amass wealth at the expense of everyone else is not natural but defined in the Christian Bible as greed which is one of the original sins of men.
This ideals of the NPP was clearly exhibited during the short-lived reign of Dr. Busia who failed to improve the drainage systems in Accra because every piece of land had been sold and with the government’s inability to use eminent domain to purchase land and or offer state lands to relocate those that could be affected by the drainage system he cowardly abandoned his project. Under Kufour's administration everything done was done to steal money by selling of state assets on the cheap, pocket some of the money and distribute national lands to his bunch. If this is what multi-party democracy is then Ghana and the NPP can go straight to hell and back. Democratic principles and best practices and procedures would not have allowed Kufour and his team to leave office with every document and work product making it hard for anyone to trace and or audit what the wonders of an NPP democratic governance was all about. The issue is not democracy, communism, socialism or fascism but how people of a nation the likes of Ghana can chart a course befitting of its cultural values and the values of a higher power to make the living appreciate life. What we have is a nation of NPP thinkers who talk about democratic practices and yet trade with China, a communist nation that has surpassed most democratic nations of the world financially or economically. Does that make China a rightful nation that values life and welfare of its citizens? Did most in the Western civilize nations not abuse people while building their respective nations to the current levels of development we’ve all come to desire? We have a nation of tribes who continue to live in their own fantasy island within Ghana and thus continue to believe in their allusions of superiority. They can keep their allusions to themselves but until Ghana is good for all, the NPP can dream about their natural leadership and or governing character traits. And if per chance China is not bad according to NPP then why was Nkrumah's practices any worse? Is China not using everything bad about Nkrumah today? Are there not political prisoners in China? Did the UK not subjugate Ghanaians and or did the criminal elements not get shipped off to Australia only to become lords over the original inhabitants on the continent of Australia? Did the USA not by design label people inferior to justify subjugation of those labeled inferior? Nations do things that help them grow mostly through a narrow scope and upon reflection change things they wish had not been done. This is true of most of the civilized Western nations. It is about time the Danquah/Dumbo/Busia ideology now called the NPP admits their folly and stop thinking and wishing that all Ghanaians with intellect will die and go away so they can rewrite Ghana's history in their own image. Our colonial masters wrote our history and never admitted to wrongs; the rest us who became emancipated will not sit and let that lie be told by this NPP clan.

Kobina, it is true what you say, about the party doing a thorough postmortem of their electoral misfortunes in the past 2 elections, such that their figures were not clearly representative amongst the generality of Ghanaians, although some are of the contention that, it's immaterial and has no place in elections where it is purely about the numbers.
The issues are daunting and in some respects, it again has to do with the leadership of the party and the marketability of the NPP candidate and his attractiveness to the electorate. First, the grassroots mobilization is very poor, extremely poor. That is an issue that needs to be targeted, because even in your case, poor grassroots mobilization had a deleterious effect on your chances at the flagbearership slot. NPP needs to do more at the grassroots, by engaging committed young, energetic individuals to get the job going and also let them feel a part of the process, whilst rewarding them for their effort. This idea of "I'm so, so and so's nephew, Grandpa's so, so and so", is clearly inimical to the interests and fortunes of the NPP, because it is perceived to be a family heirloom, making the party unattractive. There needs to be a huge injection of resources both material and cash with clear cut objectives, and results should be quantifiable to justify such an injection. It is being alleged that, funds and resources for this particular elections, did not really get to the right people. That is an area that needs to be fixed asap. The communication aspect of the party needs to be tweaked up with a much more targeted approach and the party needs to be able to preempt and gauge the sentiments and sensibilities of the masses to tailor guide their message. The party did a very poor job at communication, being basically reactionary instead of being proactive. The reactionary politics was imbued with very high levels of emotionalism and moving forward, the NPP needs to be looking at level headed individuals who can steer the discourse in the right direction irrespective of the level of provocation. It is an art and there are individuals who can do this in a matured, humorly and endearing manner. NPP needs to find these resources and put them to good use. The perceived factionalism is something that the council of elders need to address and strive to bring everybody on board, and that would call for the sacrificing of some to advance the cause of the party. Then comes the hydra headed issue of leadership which currently is in the mainstream of our internal democracy. It should be healthy, devoid of bitterness which is unavoidable although, and all stakeholders should strive to come together to achieve a common goal and purpose when all is said and done. There's a lot of work that needs to be done and NPP doesn't have a lot of time on their hands

Sure, "the NPP is not a serious political party" because of opportunistic people such as Arthur Kennedy, who rushes out of the country to seek greener pastures during the trying and tough times for the party, only to resurface to shout the loudest for undeserved publicity. It is people like Arthur K, who after an exile of over 20 years, returns to the country and thinks the only way he can serve Ghana is to be elected the President, who make it seem that the NPP is not a serious political party. No wonder Arthur K received a paltry one (1) vote in the 2007 NPP primaries. Rather than using internal structures to discuss the problems that might have accounted for the party's loss in the 2008 Presidential Elections, loud mouthed Arthur K wrote a book to sell for his undeserved personal enrichment. Grow up and have the humility to first serve your own people in the Central Region as a medical doctor before you have the effontry to discuss the big issues that you imagine are the so-called causes for the failure of the NPP campaigns, one of which you were, undeservedly, the Director of Communications. STATE RESOURCES THAT SHOULD HAVE BEN USED TO DEVELOP THE BROKEN INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE COUNTRY, AND MOST ESPECIALLY IN THE RURAL AREAS WERE USED TO IMPORT EXPENSIVE LUXURY CARS AND JEEPS FOR THEIR MERRY-MAKING, HONEYMOON AND HIGHLIFE IN THE COUNTRY.

HOW COULD IT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE FOR THE THREE PARLIAMENTARIANS FROM TAKORADI, SEKONDI AND ESSIKADU TO HAVE WATCHED TO SEE THE GROUNDING OF THE GHANA RAILWAYS, THE SOLE EMPLOYER IN THE REGION.

DID THESE THREE POLITICIANS EVER KNEW WHAT POLITICS MEANT FOR A COUNTRY.

FURTHERMORE, HOW ON EARTH DID IT BECOME POsSIBLE FOR CIVIL SERVANTS IN THE TIME OF THE NPP TO HAVE ALLOWED CIVIL SERVANTS TO AWARD THEMSELVES WITH GOVERNMENT CONSTRUCTION AND BUILDING CONTRACTS IN THE COUNTRY.

THERE IS NO NEED FOR YOU TO TELL US THE PRESENT CHAOS IN THE NPP.

TO THEM IS POLITICS THE FINEST OCCUPATIION ON EARTH, WITHOUT SWEAT, TOIL, ENDURANCE; SACRIFCE AND HARDWORK.

YOUR BOOK-CHASING THE ELEPHANTS INTO THE BUSH CLEARLY CONFIRMS THE MAIN IDEALOGY BEHINFD THE PARTY.

NO ONE CAN STILL UNDERSRAND WHY YOU ARE STILL WITH THIS PARTY.

EVEN YOUR OWN CONSITUENCY WAS LEFT IN SHAMBLES WITH BROKEN INFRASTRUCTURE IN THEIR TIME OF OFFICE.

I think his complaints are genuine and meant to provoke positive, thoughthful adjustments to save the NPP from its currunt state of confution and potential self-destruction.

In view of the above-noted observations, how can Dr. Kennedy choose to correct the ills in his party and be happy about the party's self-destruction at the same time?

Dr. Kennedy makes a highly rational proposition in paragraph 3 of the article: If you do not understand your mistakes, you cannot learn from them to plan for a better future. Most people would agree that such a lofty axiom can only come from a rational person with an excellently wired head. No, Dr. Kennedy, unlike most emotionally-driven African politicians, will not leave his party just because his ideas are not adopted readily. He will stay and use the, sometimes slow, democratic process to improve his party. I think Dr. Kennedy is a well-wired democrat.

Without identifying the mistakes of the last election, without outlining the endemic problems of the party, and without outlining corrective measures, how and why can anybody pre-nominate the party's flagbearer for a far-away election?

The NPP leadership desperately needs expertise in basic problem identification and problem solving. Further, they need a protocol on public proclamations. The NPP's quick-mouths must realise that their wild speculations and premature selections can only sow seeds of confution, frastration, alienation and disaffection within the NPP.
