Prof Awooner and co weilded a lot of influence in the regime that implemented the executions but did not stop it for variuos reasons. Today he has also died by the gun through another group of aggressors supposedly championing Islam. We are all accountable to God and only he can pass judgement on our lives on earth. For us the living we can only extend our condolences to his family the same way that the families of those killed in 1979 and subsequent political killings in Ghana irrespective of the tribes of the executed. Why are so heartless to the family of the late Prof. Yes, he may have stepped on some toes whilst alive just as we all do sometimes, intentionally or otherwise, but this does not give you the right to spew out such a garbage on a departed soul and inflame tribal war on this forum. I am a full-fledged Asante, a royal from the Ananagya family of Kumawu, a great-great-great grandson of Twebeneboah Kodua, and a cousin of the current MP in of Kumawu, Hon. Philip Basoa. Though, as a scholar myself, l disagree with some of the Anti-Ashanti comments of the Prof. in the yesteryears. Nevertheless, my disagreement does not give me any right to disrespect him of his tragic death. It can happen to anyone of us, even your OWN FATHER too, so stop this nonsense and show some respect.

I lost a loved one a few months ago and it is one of the most painful things anyone will ever go through and this pain is exacerbated by senseless comments. Prof. Awoonor may have made some unguarded comments in public but how many times haven’t we made similar comments privately. Let us be honest, we are all tribalistic. Prof., Rest in Peace. May the Good Lord keep you and may HE send his Spirit to COMFORT your family, they need it.
