Not sure how Report Ghana figured that a video in which U.S. soldiers bounce around barracks and dance with the odd Afghani kid is going to radically alter representations of Afghanistan. And in this instance, is it really worth celebrating Ghana’s global reach?

Mainly, in the vein of Hearts and Minds, the video functions as good PR for the Army and the U.S. government.

Distracted by all the frat-boy homerotic fun and games, everyone (me included) starts feeling sentimental about “the boys” and forgets to ask what the the Army is still doing in Afghanistan . . . and why our leaders saw fit to send it in the first place.

On a purely formal note: this is not azonto – just bad dancing set to an azonto soundtrack.

Beide haben ghanaische Wurzeln und befruchten die deutsche Musikszene mit ghanaischen Sounds. Und den entsprechenden Tanzbewegungen.

Azonto besteht aus wenigen festgelegten Grundschritten und ist ein einfacher Tanz, der viele Freiheiten lässt. Dazu fette Beats und Ohrwurm-Melodien. Es ist nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis Azonto Einzug findet in den westlichen Pop-Mainstream

Awoonor was absolutely right in taking on and exposing the hounding of Ewes by some Akans, led by some core Asante elements from within the former Asante kingdom after the 1966 coup. He was a victim himself. That hounding continues to this day and we who are reasonable and know the facts and have the capability owe a duty to Awoonor, to our ourselves and our children to vindicate what he wrote and expose these rabies infested dogs for what they are!

Awoonor was no tribalist! Writing on the tribal hounding of Ewes by some Akans of the Matemeho tradition who destroyed the UP tradition with their ethncentrism does not make one a tribalist, just as writing about and condemning white racism doesn't make one a racist! Nobody and I mean nobody should rejoice at the death of another human being as death is inevitable for all of us but stop defending Awonoor for his bigotry. He and other trokosi morons caused a lot of misery to some families and these people are expressing their feelings. Yes, but that is exactly what we all do. Have we not called ourselves first as Akans before being referred to as Ghanaians? Yen Akanfuo, even of recent days has been our pride, why should this man be insulted for saying he is first an Ewe and second a Ghanaian. People who fiercely resisted the formation of Ghana now pontificate to be the founders and will want to be called Founders' instead of the bold founder. Kofi Awoonor if my memory will serve me right, was rather arrested with Amereka who was also shot to death in Lome in 1986 when he led a Kofi Awoonor, Kojo Tsikata, Rawlings backed Gilchrist Olympio's tribally planned Ewe attack on President Eyadema's government in the Republic of Togo to fulfill the secret Ewe expansion agenda along the west coast of Africa when the two staged an aborted coup against General Acheampong which became popularly known as one man one machet.

He was appointed the Foreign Minister only to be withdrawn for his unpopular tribal remarks that he is first an Ewe before a Ghanaian.

What people did not know about him is that, Kofi Awoonor is actually a half Sierra Leonian, quarter Ewe and quarter Fanti and married to a Fante.

The lesson we should learn from his death as people and country is that bloody violent do not pay and do not solve any social political problems.

It's so pathetic that such academic giant should meet his life in such a terrified horrendous way. His death should serve as a warning to those who are agitating for yet another political violence and tribal war should learn a lesson from Kofi Awoonor's painful death. After all what has been the gain of the bloody June 4th and the fake 31st December revolution which violently came to over threw a popularly democratic government in Ghana apart from enriching some previous hungry campus poor rats?
