It is very easy for us the living to want our government to go on a borrowing spree and keep borrowing and borrowing through deficit spending without for a moment reflecting on how the hell we are going to repay all those loans. Just remember that there is nothing free in this world and at the end of the day, every pesewa we borrow will have to be repaid, unless of course your intention is for us the living passing on our indebtedness to our kids, grandkids and great-grand kids---which will be grossly unfair to posterity.
Oh wait a minute: are you by any chance advocating that we keep borrowing like the US? But here is the deal: Us owes oodles and oodles of money to the rest of the world---mostly to China and Japan---but don't kid yourself and don't weep for US just yet: US happens to be the most powerful nation on this earth by any metric and can claw itself out of any tacky situation---militarily, financially or otherwise. Can you honestly say Ghana can do the same? Watch what you wish for because in the process of embarking on a maddening borrowing spree, we could be gradually marching back to our pre-independence days by selling our hard-won freedom to the economic claws of shrewd China. And watch out when that happens because there will be no getting out. Oh what the heck am I saying? We are already in it, whether we like it or not...with the proposed acceptance of China's currency in our banking system. When NPP came to power in 2001, our GDP, Gross domestic product was 3.2 billion and our debt was 7.8 billion dollars putting us I HIPC status. I might be talking to somebody who doesn't understand the economic implication of having more debt than what the country produces a year. Our GDP to debt ratio was negative.
In 2009 when NPP left office, our GDP has increased more than fourfold to 17.8 billion before it was rebated to 32 billion and our debt burden was only 8.2 billion. Ghana's economy increased fourfold during eight years of Npp administration.
More social interentions were introduced during the NPP than NDC and Nkrumah's time. NHIS, NYEP now called GYEEDA that has been turned into NDC kitty bank o stealing, MASS Transportation system, School feeding program, MASLOC that granted small loans to traders and small businesses, mass cocoa spraying program and others.
Now tell me what Mahama and his NDC stealing gang have done with more than twenty billion dollars they have taken as loans, NOTHING, ZILCH, ZERO, NADA.

This minority leader, Akoto Osei, may have earned all the classroom knowledge desired by most Ghanaians but like many educated Ghanaians has continued to show lack of intellectual honesty, personal principled convictions and proven he seeks no wisdom but love of party and tribe over love of or for Ghana. Akoto Osei has been in parliament when Kufour was Ghana's president. He, like all of his peers in parliament, voted for the sale of Ghana Telecom, the sale of Ashanti Goldfields, the renovation of Ghana's sports stadia, approved the EO group contract through Western region oil field projects that gave these two thieves that make the EO group 3% lifetime oil revenue payments and the approval of a 1992 constitution that indemnified "get out of jail" amnesty to thieves, murderers and immoral bandits. To sit in parliament and talk about abuses brought to bear on Ghana by president Mahama and or any other president is not only a disgrace to Akoto Osei but to Parliament as a legislative body and an institution. In civilized societies, legislators control the purse of government and do have in place systems that place constraints on what may be done in the name of the country. But because Akoto Osei has no shame and or not wise to look at the legislative footprints Ghana’s legislators have left in our constitution that gives rise to the foolishness that abound in Ghana he can ignorantly take to the microphone and make statements that only reflect the incompetence and foolishness of Ghana's governing three (3) branches of government past and present.
The arguments put forth to justify the sale of Ghana Telecom has been mismanagement and the debt and yet Akoto Osei cannot name one institution in Ghana, including, parliament that is not mismanaged and or not running on fumes and borrowed money. Is Electricity corporation running in black? Is Ghana's Airport commission running in black? If Ghanaians are not enjoying the fruits that come with continued delivery of electricity does it not mean it is badly managed? What about our ports and harbors? Can we say anything positive about Ghana's Revenue authority? How about the Ministry of Finance and the Audit department? A look at every department of government in Ghana will reveal purchases of automotive vehicles that cannot be justified in the civilized world where development and the ideals of freedoms, liberty and security of the people are paramount while in Ghana every clown gets to drive a vehicle with the average price tag of $50,000. Before people in the majority party, NDC and or the minority part NPP open their mouth to spew brain dead materials they ought to take just a minute to reflect the damage they have caused to Ghana and see if they do have the honor and dignity to resign instead of party play book political selling points. It is only fair we allow for statesmen to act with dignity instead of the partisan, tribally induced politics that rule the day in Ghana.
