Kofi, this report saddens me and if you call it as BNI doing a good job, then God help Ghana. How could Indians import unlicensed medicines and even distribute them to hospitals in Ghana without approval? Are the hospitals not government hospitals and are there no systems in place to check that imported drugs to government hospitals are approved ones? How were the Indians able to clear the drugs from the port if they were not approved? BNI should have stopped the drugs from being cleared at the port or at least, being distributed to hospitals in the first place. That would have been a good job. It is now too late because some of the drugs might have already killed Ghanaian patients.

I do not blame the Indians but Ghanaians who might have assisted them to import, clear and distribute fake drugs in Ghana.

Indian companies. Years ago,in a CBS 60-minutes episode,an Indian manufacturer was heard explaining, in unambigious language, how the pharmaceutical business is done in that country. You want capsules to be filled with CHALK,yes CHALK,you pay a few cents(I suppose to cover labour and a portion of the overhesd costs) and you get yourself a full container load(FCL) of fake and substadard medication medications,neatly packaged just like the 'originals' you can sell and make tons of cash from! And nobody should tell me that the principals of the local importing company,Tobinco Pharmaceutical are not familiar with this diabolical business arrangement. It has been going on for years with the connivance of certain corrupt FDA officials! Shut them down, and throw the book at them like the Niajah authorities have done!
