Just to get a common permit from the authorities, you have to pay bribe. Police demands bribe so often it's unbelievable especially driving from Accra to Kumasi .

To get a meter for your electricity in your house needs a bribe or else they they bring some huge bill foy you. inflation are at the highest, with price for basic commodities are rising fast that salary.

Cedis have been falling fast against other currency...

Armed robbery now write letter openly to tell you that they will be coming to rob you. These are now common in Kumasi ...

Kwasia , I can go on and on and these are from real Ghanaians that live in Ghana not diasporians that haven't got a clue about what's go on.

Apart from taxing even condoms, cutlasses, hoes, and combs, you receive money from our numerous natural resources including now oil. You collect loans from outside. You have borrowed more than all government before you have borrowed combined, yet Ghanaians do not see any development during your time. What you have only achieved is you have made some few Ghanaians millioneers in dollars at the expense of the poor Ghanaian. What at at all would this small amount you are trying to dupe these students from our sister countries to pay do for you.. I am glad that they have also tasted the type of government Ghana now has (NDC) and they can tell a lot about the corrupt NDC government and the stolen elections in Ghana to their parents when they go back home. Are these students saying that the are ECOWAS so Ghanaian tax payers should subsidise their education? Ghanaians pay less because their education is pay for by Ghanaian tax payers. The students should ask themselves why they are studying in the first place. Somebody paid for the to country to run. It is done everywhere. The Foreign ID card is not a scam...It's a head tax. There is no reason to have this card other than for the government to take an additional $120 off of foreigners. This is the law of the land...and I have abided by it. However, the politicians are trying to dress it up to make it something that is a benefit to foreigners. It isn't. Instead of implementing a whole additional level of beauracracy, why not just increase the residence/work permits by 200 more ghana cedis? I think the reason is that this money is going to another ministry. It's another ministries idea of getting more funds.

Ghanaians need to think through these things. Don't put so many barriers for foreigners to come and work/invest in your country. Most people don't like nigerians...and there are a lot of bad ones...but the Nigerians who are coming for higher education are benefiting the ghanaian economy. They buy food, lodging, transport, books, entertainment, etc. Ghanians should want more people to come and spend/invest in Ghana...so why put up more and more roadblocks?

The issue concerning the ID card should be addressed properly, why the ID card- Most migrants come to the country to change their Identity, Ghana is not having a system to identify its own citizen and acquiring Ghana passport is as easy as ABC. I think the ID card is a way of protecting both Migrants and the citizens as a whole, can you be carrying your passport every where you go? the ID card is the best way to go about this issue. if you talk about the amount being too much, its well explained but the ID card should be given to foreign student in that way it will help stop crime and promote better integration.

The immigration office must enter all needed information onto their database when given a visa. Banks, hotels,house owners, tickets agents etc are required to demand passports with valid visa before granting services. what will be the use of foreigner id card when it doesnt contain the visa?? Can't we integrate all the id cards(voter id card, ssnit id card, nhis id card, nia id card,) into one electronic database (networked)and issue just one eCard to be accessed by the police, immigration,BNI, birth/death registrar, Electoral c'ssion, banks, NHIA, SSNIT, IRS, etc?? Why do we create soo many institutions with thousands of Directors,CEOs, managers, Board of Directors and many workers trying to solve the same problem of Identification? We better stop all the ndc/npp politics and think though to solve our problems otherwise we will continue to call on supernatural powers(God and gods)to solve them for us. billgoodman43@yahoo.com

Ghana is doing you nigerians a great favour by admitting you into their educational institutions. your mates back in nigeria are at home as I type because of ASUU strike. if nigerians don't want to respect Ghanaian laws, then they are free to leave Ghana. is there anything wrong in saying nigerians (whether students or not) can leave Ghana if they are not prepared to abide with our laws? or can Ghanaians go to nigeria and dictate to your govt? what kind of nonsense is that? if Ghana implements a law stopping foreigners from retail trading, nigerians will rise up and say they ate being targeted. when the foreigners registration exercise started, every foreigner in Ghana has been complying. only nigerians are complaining because perhaps they think Ghana is one of the states in their country. meanwhile, the same nigeria conducted its own foreign registration exercise a few years ago, which Ghanaians in nigeria complied with.now that Ghana is doing its own, nigerians have the audacity to complain. what rubbish is that? and you said nigeria helped Ghana in the past- what specific help are you talking about? how much money has the nigerian government given to Ghana. Give me all the details. Ghana's identity card is a slap in the face not only to other continental Africans, but more so DESCENDANTS OF AFRICANS WHO WERE ENSLAVED. It's known many Africans were sold into chattel slavery by certain Western African tribes for trinkets --today for 120 USD?!..wth.

Would Pan Africanist Dr. Kwame Nkrumah have signed off on this??! Where is the Pan Africanism in Ghana's "non-citizen" card for other continental Africans "repatriating" African diasporans???
