Politicians in African are blinded by greed for money and besides power intoxicated because there are no checks and balances in place. The only way to eradicate this winner- takes-it-all syndrome is to replace it with an All- Inclusive government whereby members of the opposition and professinals are included in the governing process. That way our best men and women will brainstorm for a better development. When you have people in power who are belly driven there is no progress. What Africa needs are thinkers and visionary leaders not looters and power drunks.

Kofi Annan keeps on harping on this ridiculous notion of abandoning the so-called-winner-takes-all in African politics because no one with any common sense offered him,on a silver platter,the nomination as a candidate for President of Ghana after his lousy reign in running the toothless, mostly incompetent and ineffective United Nations Organization.
His dream was that Ghanaians would come running and begging him to be installed as President and they didn't so he has taken this vacuous mantle of attacking the age old concept of rewarding hard work instead of redistributing social equity by skewed assertions.
Politics in Africa has been dogged by ugliness because,somehow,we have made a wealth-accumulation incentive out of it instead holding our elected officials accountable to us.In Africa,the easiest path to riches is to get into politics.That's where the money is a la Victoria Hammah,huh?.
Politics is wicked and an ugly undertaking and it's not meant for the thin-skinned either.If we take away the outrageous "goodies" that African politicians enjoy at the expense of their respective citizenry,sanity would be installed in our political environment.If our elective officials have an iota of fear...yes FEAR of the citizenry,the practice of democracy would reign supreme across the length and breath of Africa.
Our problem is not because we've failed to reinvent the wheel by doing away with the age-old practice of "winner-takes-all.At the core of the afore-mentioned concept is rewarding hard work.Kofi ANNAN SHOULD GO LISTEN TO THE GREAT UHURU DANCE BAND'S HIGHLIFE LYRICS OF THEIR EVERGREEN CUT" ME NHUHU MA OBI NKEKA" He needs to stop bugging us with his myopic vision and quack reasoning behind the shortcomings of Ghanaian politics.Assigning blame at the wrong places in our politics.If he has the platform to advise the leadership in Africa he should expend that capital by entreating them institute laws like the Freedom OF Information Act,Constituents empowerment in recalling their impotent and corrupt representatives and institutionalizing very strict laws to combat corruption.
Our inability to rally around such laws is what is the bane of African Politics not rewarding people who have not worked hard to elect our leaders.

Leaders are elected to serve all irrespective of who voted for them, however, elections would be useless if the peoples's choice is not adhered to. It is up to the new government to involve opponents in their government or not. After all, parties have to prove their capacity to government, else we can vote the PPP or NPD or some smaller party into office and ask them to bring everyone on board. It is simply anti competition.

The problem is because the winning parties do not understand the need to serve all and the loser does not understand their role of playing a fair and proper alternative for the next elections. That is what needs to change, else let us go back to military one party rule.

In fact, I don't think those loans, grants and Aid are bounties. These are people's retirement money invested in Africa and they will need it back one way or another.

Governments must rather be accountable and not necessary sharing with the loser. That is not to say it can not happen, but it should be the choice of the winner as to who to work with.

I find it humorous when the NPP advocates sharing when they are not in power. Remember the Sallah/Busia case.

If we can eschew these three things, the continent will zoom out of her current predicament. NDC and NPP have different ideologies and it is quite clear as to which party can at least, give some hope to the average Ghanaian.

Just cast your mind back to when Ghana was under Kufuor and now. I am not holding brief for Kufuor but at least, his presidency was far better than this "slug pace" Mahama and his looting brigade.

If we can open our heart and respect the "rule of law", be honest and stop the tribal nonsense, Ghana will be good. A human being, commented on Ghanaweb that, quote " he will support a damn monkey that will represent him from his region than supporting a human from any part of the nation". Unquote. How can Ghana move on with people with such "dead mentality? We know the medicine we have to take to ward off our illness but, trust me, we will not because we love the rot going on. Whatever system we are envisaging will be manned by the same "dishonest, lawless and tribal minded Ghanaians" so, where do we go from here?

In Ghana, and to some extent in Africa, electoral democracy has metamorphosed into a bland-generic-procedural mechanism for the politically-connected-rich few, to impose ideology of corruption over poor, gullible majority whose apron strings to democratic processes end after casting their votes.

In other words, electoral democracy has been corrupted because it has been hijacked by the atavistic instincts of corruption among our political leaders (or, "dealers")

To solve the "undemocratized" nature of democracy in Ghana within the currently existing facade of electoral democracy is an attempt to get dry while still immersed in the sea!!!!

All the noise coming from the opposition is because, they are not the ones "chopping". All that African politicians are interested in is " chop chop". The winner takes all system is counter productive in Africa and in the developing countries. We have not reached the level of sophistication required to practice it successfully. The national cake is too small so there is constant struggle to control it.

If Kofi Annan of all people has kept his cool and said nothing after the Supreme Court Judges turned the petitioners case upside down, then why is he talking now about winner takes all? All kind-harted-patriotic citizens of Ghana watching the case as it did at the Supreme Court, knew that Mahama stole the elections by use of Afari Gyan. Afari Gyan himself admitted his folly confirming that jon Mahama is an error president. Mahama was then referred to as a thief and the lousiest president on earth. On top of that, the presiding judge among the nine lied about how many of them reaffirmed thief mahama's presidency. Before it was made known, the foolish man Atuguba has also fled the country and while the most humble, kind, loving, shrewd, intuitive, wise and honorable Nana Addo had affirmed his pledge (to abide by whatever the SC judges come out with). All these happened in the full glare of all of us but Kofi Annan did not say a word. If so then he must as well keep quiet and say nothing about how Ghana is being governed. If a fool presides over a country, it doesn't matter whether it is a winner takes all or a looser takes some... It is all bull shit. Let the wise hear what the wise men tell the know too well.
