Now, if you were to open a textbook from years ago, you would have found that natural resources in abundance are a source of growth and wealth for
developing countries, or so it was supposed. Why not?
If you have oil, if you have diamonds, if you have gold and copper, can't these be used to help develop the country?
But if you turn to contemporary textbooks, the first chapter is liable to be about the resource curse, meaning that the revenues from foreign
investment in oil and gas and coal and copper get siphoned off in corruption. billions of dollars are siphoned off every year into THE private pockets of these so called DEMOCRATIC LEADERS.
WHAT A SHAME! There is a lack of transparency. There is a lack of accountability.
if you look at Chile, Peru, Indonesia, Malaysia, these are
countries that have been very successful in using their rich resources TO DEVELOP THEIR NATION. WHY CANT GHANAIAN GOVTS LEARN FROM THEM?

The key issue is always going to be the local population, the local leadership, the local press, and NGOs, non-governmental authorities that try

'What utter piffle!' was my first reaction to your tribalist tripe and I thought I shouldn't dignify it with a response. But I should respond, if only to emphasise the truths you chose to ignore. The ministries, agencies and departments are populated by southerners; there's only an insignificant percentage of northerners within that population. Therefore, their lateness to work wouldn't be a northerner (only) disease. Ghana reports late to work. Poor timekeeping is a national disease, not a northerner disease. Lateness isn't peculiar to northerners. Moreover, if you look at the persons and the ownership of the companies raping Ghana in judgment debts and look further at those companies notorious for paying huge bribes, you will not find northerners to feature in a significant way. So why is it northerners letting down our country? Besides, if corruption is a national albatross around our nation's neck, as no one would dispute, why would northerners be exempt from it? Corruption is not more northern than it is southern. On the contrary, actually, the most commendable singular action against corruption was undertaken by the noblest of Ghanaians, Mr Martin Amidu - a northerner. Does Mr Amidu's act of nobleness and integrity make all northerners stand taller than the rest of us? No, it makes Mr Amidu only to stand taller. But Martin Amidu does typify the integrity, honesty and sincerity of the northerner. As an individual, Sam Garba at GetFund is way out of your league and there isn't a single soul of your ilk who can possibly match Mr Garba in either integrity or patriotism. If you have evidence to the contrary, I dare you to spill it. And, by the way, the GetFund under Sam Garba was the best thing that happened to both the NDC and Ghana in the last few years. Some reliable sources have hinted that some NDC leading members and politicians of the present government have secretly bought houses in Vaughan near Toronto and also in Edmonton, Alberta areas. These houses as sources say are fully paid for. Lets face it when did they come to power or assume their political office positions? Also how much have they saved in the bank from their honest salaries to afford such houses which ranges in price from $550,000-$750,000 (Canadian dollars) and they are said to be fully paid for? I therefore urge all and every concerned Ghanaian in Toronto areas and also in Edmonton metropolitan areas to investigate and find out of the whereabouts of these houses in Vaughan and in Edmonton areas. If possible report them to Transparency International for formal investigation into the daylight robberies and corruption by the present Ghana government officials. These monies are monies that belong to the poor Ghanaian, the vulnerable and our suffering mothers, fathers,brothers and sisters we have left back home. How long should we stand at the sidewalks and look on to the stealing and the looting while majority of Ghanaians' back home are suffering day after day? These practices are the reasons why the west and the developed nations are deciding not to support Ghana anymore with the budgetary support allocations. Moreover the world donors of aids to Ghana are reviewing their decisions as to why they should donate to Ghana when the monies are not used to develop in infrastructures, hospitals, roads, schools,and employment creations to benefit the poor citizens of Ghana.Lets face it, the economic hardship or devastation in Ghana now is just the beginning. John Mahama may not be vocally dynamic but that is cool in the present circumstances. A firebrand is what we least need at the moment.

I think, Mahama should be given a chance to rule. Needless to say, he must put a 5-10 years development plan in action. All he needs to do is to take the good old SYDP and work around it with a modern twist and besides revamp the industries and SOE's Kwame Nkrumah had in place and surely history will be kind to him.
The Axioms (ideas & ideals) more than ever still relevant today. I don't know why various Ghanaian leaders shy away from continuing where Nkrumah left. If you come to think of the Ghana medical school performing surface heart surgery in 1964 and Atomic physicist being trained Kwabenya Atomic energy which was also completed also in 1964-1965 with the purpose coming out with various modern products from crop resistant for our agriculture to modern products like which Du Pont produces today then one could tell the extent of ramifications and collateral damage the 1966 coup had on Ghana. Stop preaching doom and gloom scenario for John Mahama. President Mahama will prevail against all odds.

The biggest problem now facing Ghana is the amount of money used to pay government employees. If you use 74% of your budget for salaries and about 15 to 20% to service interest on loans, you are virtually left with nothing to carry developmental projects. Nkrumah had more than 200 million pounds in 1957 to play with which subsequent administrations didn't have. Nkrumah too given the present circumstances would not have been successful.

First, despite him haven been a Parliamentarian and a Vice President, he was not prepared for the Presidency because he is an intellectual midget and the CNN faux pas is a clear example.

Secondly, the passing of the SSSS salary policy has starved this administration of funds to continue or start any infrastructure development or funding of government agencies like GYEEDA, NHIS, SADA and others to function properly.

No government on God's green earth can function properly when you are using 74% of your budget to pay government workers. USA use less than 5% of its budget to pay federal workers and even Europe with some governments tilted towards socialist policies on average use less than 10% of its budget on government workers.

Even no business can survive with a salary expenditure of 74%. Most businesses cap salary expenditure at 25% to make the venture successful.

I wrote an article at the beginning of Mahama's administration that predicted a Limann like government. I goofed badly. This administration is 100 times worse than Limann.

So, they always ensure that high resistive and opposing mechanism is in place to frustrate non ashante president and subsequently put the one into ridicule.

You don't kill to retain power at all cost, you don't steal to retain power at all cost, you don't bribe to retain power at all cost and when having done all these to retain power, you unleash an unprecedented, mindboggling, legendary, grossly amazing levels of sheer incompetence, humongous and crass levels of ineptness and ineptitude, an unbridled and monumental levels of non-achieving and visionless leadership bordering on insanity, a rather overbearingly nauseating and stinking levels of corruption, thievery and looting of the national kitty, very high and marked levels of abrasive sycophancy, all at the expense of the socio-economic advancement of the country, when the country during the 8 years the NPP were in power had done a yeoman's job at putting the country on a very solid, firm and robust foundation ala lower middle income status, all within a short time span of 8 years, which effects are being eroded with the alacrity of a meteorite, and postulate such nonsense about " it being a curse as a northerner becoming a President".

However, the writer should have been explicit in what Mahama is not doing right that has led some people ganging up against him.
The economy and corruption dictate popularity of leaders across the world and I think Mahama has not shown any leadership skills in both areas. If he gets these right Ghanaians would vote for him again but until then he must (as you said) be looking over his shoulders.

Look around you, what is going well in present Ghana? Everyday we wake up to mismanagement of state resources, everyday million of dollars and cedis are used for dubious projects and consultants and payments. NDC needs NPP to help pull this economy upwards, those with power and appontments in NDC are deadwood, we live in a very sophisticated global market that needs people with vision and intelligence to manage the economy, not these hopeless Ablakwas, Fifi Kwertey etc. If Ghana was President Mahama's own business, would he appoint Ablakwa as the deputy CEO of his business? No way, so why does he think he is good for Ghana? Ghana will continue to sink until the President opens his eyes and starts appointing COMPETENT people to manage the economy.

The only thing they won't mess up is flag staff house where they sit and enjoy the cool facilities and all the internal attractions it comes with.
We are slowly but surely heading to pre 2000 election Ghana where life was hell and the cedi was worthless.

How come those in the diaspora were rushing home during NPP rule with confidence to invest in Ghana but with NDC people are repatrating their wealth. Shine your eyes and stop the tribal politics and accusations. It is not helping Ghana.

to warrant a Coup.
Transportation problems in the Country was
an eyesore.Therefore,Dr Liman tackled
transport as a first step to build the nation

to replaced worn out fleets that never

Transport Corp.Replenished OSA
buses,Opened a new Transport Company
TATA BUS which goes to remote Villages
across the country,and also gave jobs to a lot of people,bought about 6 new Ships for Collapsed BLACK STAR LINES including the big "Sisila Rriver" which brought back to our embrace,Sisters and Brothers expelled from neighboring Nigeria etc.All within a short period of time among other.Mr Harry Sawyer was CPP Minister of Transport in Dr Hilla Liman govt at the time.
What this writer doesn't know is that,Rawlings Coup against the CPP govt was uncalled for and one of the most Unpopular on the Continent of Africa then.The takeover was purely based on Greediness and nothing short of that.Again,do you know that during the inception of Ghana's Democratic rule,when Rawlings was the president a well participated Continental and international Conference was organized in Ghana at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra,to study the impact of Coups on the African Continent.Ghana's Coup was used as a Text (subject) case.It was HELD(legal term) that Rawlings coup which toppled the democratically elected Dr Hilla Liman's CPP govt was not necessary.The CPP administration did nothing wrong that should attract a coup.Rawlings Staged for no reason
either that he could do it for doing sake.He was the president at the time what did he said

NPP was removed from power because we felt that the NDC have men to think and solve pressing problems but what Mahama is doing is baffling. He wants to take blows for the elite and corporations of this world. NDC in opposition never countenanced on that. We were oriented towards the poor and would die for them, became their mouthpiece yet all of sudden in power under the current leader, the poor is being made to suffer for the comfort of the elite and corporations of this world. This is strange. We are turning our backs on the people whose sweat, blood and loyalty made us who we are today.
