  What is it that Ghana is experiencing? How on earth can a whole medical officer say that then increase in utility bills will spark a wave of suicide. In deed this is a very useless comments and which comments will rather make anyone with any suicidal tendencies to be feel justified if he or she should take his or her life. Please lets be civil and responsible in our utterances. This comments by this doctor is highly irresponsible!

  Do you actually understand the word 'DEMONSTRATION?' One doesn't need a rocket scientist to prove what the abled Doc is saying is right. The high cost of living, inability to pay utility bills and the subsequent cut and denial of such needed services could eventually put so much pressure on people so much so that suicide becomes an option to end it all. This is a world-wide knowledge and not a new thing concocted by the Doc.

  I think alot of contributors on this forum are finding it difficult to correlate hiking of utility tariffs with with suicide. In most developed countries, this wouldn't have raise eye brows because it happens everyday as people who finds it unbearable in settling their financial obligations ends up committing suicide as the last hope or perhaps to save them from shame. I think this is the bases of the Dr's argument.

  The solution to solving these tariff hikes is not to lower the cost but rather insist and forced the providers to provide every house hold a meter. that will certainly make the increases bearably to consumers. The more you use power, the higher you pay. Imagine, a compound house of 15 house holds sharing one meter and ECG changed the old meter to a prepaid meter, what do you think is happening now?.......... For the last 3 weeks, we've purchase power worth GHC 300.OO This is robbery. This is what TUC and other organizations should be talking about not what would bring the utility companies down. Lets pay for a better service. this is what I think would help us.

  Dr. Serebuor is very wrong on this. I can't find any conclusive peer-reviewed research that support his statement. It is politically motivated, at best. Ghana does not have extreme weather that demand heating and cooling systems to keep people alive. Majority can do without electricity and not commit suicide. If you can't pay then you disconnect. Alternatively, use prepay-meter and use it only when you need it so that your bills are manageable. There is no evidence linking inability to pay for electricity and suicide.

It is not for nothing that we see others bring in drugs that are killing people into our country because if we have doctors like this who can't think to be able find ways to produce druges at this point then it is a shame.
