i agree Goodman. Property rates are levies to run local government. What has local gvt done for us. People are opening container shops in front of peoples homes. devaluing their homes. local gvt does nothing. Residential area ...

They should close down these businesses...and then let's see the reaction of the people against the municipality ! Shut down ECG....no power...shut down the telco's...no communication.

This 'journalist' is not telling the complete story. These companies are not paying for a good reason. The local governments implement tax schemes just to gouge the companies that are perceived to be doing well. Where does this money go???? What services do the municipality provide? Garbage collection..no, you pay for that. Police and fire? no, it's paid by the central government. water? no..u pay for that....What DO they do other than coming by to harrass businesses.

Who pays the property rate? I think it would be the owner of the property. I hardly think a phone company is going to buy their own office, it must be rented from somebody. Probably somebody on the Ga council!
