The report mentioned the presence of the Police and Fire Officers at the scene of the accident to investigate but there was no mention of officers from the Factory Inspectorate Agency, the department supposedly responsible for Health and Safety in the workplace.

This clearly explains the state of affairs when it comes to workers safety at work. The regulation in place now is obsolete and the agency responsible for enforcing it is weak. This is one area TUC should be pushing legislators to over haul and it is definitely one area where jobs can be created.

Can one imagine if government enact an enforceable law tomorrow compelling workplaces to have health and safety policies, programs and training with punitive measures for those employers and employees who may violate these laws?? This means the teeming science students coming out of the universities may find a job as Health and Safety professionals with little training to manage these workplace safety programs. some of these students would be in consulting and other related professions. The Labour ministry stands to create at least 100,000 jobs. Not the fake jobs Okudjeto Ablakwa used to lie about.
