You have dully been destooled for insubordination, and instead of dealing with the issue and maybe going to apologize to be re-instituted, you have rather taken your anger and recalcitrance to peace loving goats, sheep and chicken. What role did they play to be subjected to such unusual and cruel punishment? Department of Social Welfare and the Humane Society must take this up.

Again Oti Boateng is a paramount Chief who reports directly to the Asantehene. A band of disgruntled sub chiefs cannot in any way slaughter ram and invoke the ancestors to destool him. If he is autocratic as they say, they should have reported him to the Asanteman council and for the Asantehene to take the final decision.

Just like in my family Adako-Jachie, Asaman, Bonkron and Nsuta are all one, it does not matter where you were born or raised, a true member of our family qualifies to occupy the stool in any of these places. In Akan tradition is not were one was born or raised, but rather where his maternal ancestors hailed from or settled down.

That is why you need to learn history, New Juaben and her surrounding areas are all Ashantis, that is why a native royal of New Juaben can be a queen mother of Ashanti Juaben and vise versa, we are all one people from Ashanti .Ashantis are not only in Ashanti region, we have them in the western, eastern, central, Bono-Ahafo and northern part of volta region.Before there was no Bono-Ahafo it was Western Ashanti untill Dr. Nkrumah because of political reasons divided them and because they opposed him and wanted to secede he found it threatening and divided that part of Ghana, some to the western region others to the central region and created Bono - Ahafo out of the rest, so the remaining is now the Ashanti region.

Its not true! Paramount stools in Asante are not the business of the Asantehene, only those stools, which were created or elevated by one of his precedessors to status of an Oman. For your information Asante is headed by Adako-Oyoko clan of which the Asante-Juabenhene (head of Oyoko clan) and Nsutahene (head of Adako clan) are the leaders. The Asantehene can never undermine the authority of an amantuo num state such as Juaben (i.e. Juabenhene.). He is not even the overall overlord in Kumasi. We owe allegiance to the Golden stool and not to the Asantehene, the Asantehene himself is only a servant to the stool. Asante is a union with checks and balances and not a master-servant institution. The only time Asantehene can be the final arbiter is when a case by a royal family is brought before him such as the Kumawu and Asumegya royal family did.

I mentioned that if those disgruntled chiefs have a case, they can APPEAL TO THE ASANTEMAN COUNCIL. The Asantehene still have a sway when it comes to settling disputes among chiefs. Despite the fact that the Asantehene cannot destool any of the chiefs of the Amantuo states, he has a big influence over them. By tradition as you have rightly pointed out, the Asantehene will not interfere with chieftancy issues under his jurisdiction unless such disputes tarnish the image of Asanteman. Nana, did you not recently read about Asantehene warning chiefs under his jurisdiction on land matters and galamsey? This tells of his authority. Anyway, I stand to be corrected because we are all learning. But nana, can those sub chiefs destoool a paramount chief? Educate me on that.

First of all Juabenhene is not the uncle of the Asantehene. The Juabenhene is the elderly brother of the Asantehene. In the olden days among the Oyoko states, Juabenhene was considered their elder brother for the fact of being the biggest Oyoko state. The Nsutahene is the uncle to the Asantehene. Two wrongs still dont make a right! There is a lot wrong with chieftaincy nowadays. You see Asantehene his son the Akyempemhene acting as if he was the most powerful chief in Kumasi, which is total nonesense. You see the Aduabenhene (i.e. Adontenhene of Kumasi) an Amantuo num state being debarred from the Asanteman council. Didn`t you see, when Asantehene provoked the Mamponghene? The Mamponghene then wanted to break away from Asanteman and it needed the intervention of the Adansehene to prevent Asante to break up. The Golden Stool is a national stool and not a state stool.

Extract from an interview with the Asantehene from the new african magazine in 2009:

"Asantehene: The Golden Stool is superior and higher than me, I am only a servant and custodian of the Golden Stool, and all Asantes come under its spirit. "

To make it once again clear, the Asantehene can neither enstool nor destool anyone within amantuo num state. He can not claim any of their land nor does he have any jurisdiction over them, unless a case is brought before him.

The Amantuo Num consist of Juaben/Bewkai, Asumegya/Kumawu, Aduaben, Mampong, Kumase/Kokofu and Nsuta.

Mampong was already a fully fledged kingdom before the creation of the Asante union. One of the reasons why Opoku Ware I and his predecessors were so successful were Juaben, Mampong and Nsuta.

Mamponghene is the Nifa/Krontihene of Asante. Because he took over leadership position during the Denkyira war and sacrificed himself, Okomfo Anokye created the silver stool for the mampong state. In the whole of Asante Mamponghene is next to the Golden stool. However, as far as Asante royals are concerned which are only rulers of the Adako/Oyoko clan, Juabenhene and Nsutahene are next to the Golden stool.

The people of Kumase/Kokofu and Nsuta have one common ancestress called Nana Ikurru she gave birth to two females Yita and Ankyewaa Nyame. The Oyokos of Kokofu/Kumasi descend from Ankyewaa and the Nsuta-Adakos descend from Yita. Because one daugthers son of Ankyewaa became Kwamanhene (Kumasihene) the Asantehene or the Asante-Oyoko clan refer to Nsutahene (i.e. Adakos) as uncle. In fact, when Obiri Yeboa died Nsutahene was even asked to inherit his nephew by taking over the Kumasi/Kwaman stool. During the reign of Obiri Yeboa and Osei Tutu , Nana Abena Pokuaa of the Nsuta Adako royal family ruled as Kumasihemaa. It was after the death of Obiri Yeboa that due to a succession dispute she had to take the Kumasi stool and much of the regalia and flee to Ivory Coast were she founded the Asante-Adako (Baule) kingdom. Any Adako/Oyoko royal is eligible to occupy the Golden Stool, as I said its a national and not a state stool.

The proverb you mentioned came about, that anytime there was a misunderstanding between Mampong and Nsuta it resulted in war in which Mampong was always defeated. So one day Mamponghene told his men, when Nsutas come give them what ever they want (i.e. food). Its only when Nsuta is full (satisfied) that there will be peace in Mampong.

Remember, it is a long-standing custom to perform such a ritual for that supposed function among Akans.

You make it sound like the Chiefs simply decided to vent their anger on the sheep. Anyway, I agree with you that not only the ritual of sacrificing Animals to spiritually appease our Ancestors ought to be abandoned, but also other unnecessary killing of Animals and People as well.

What gets to me on the question of life preservation is the duplicity of how we allow, with little to no compunction, fellow Humans to be fatally victimized and then turn around to scream bloody murder in defense of Animals.

I have seen how passionately Animal Rights Advocates have been vilifying others for slaughtering Animals for food, but have heard little from them when it comes to how innocent folks, even children are abandoned to die or even killed under the guise of some War.

We are quick to justify Wars that leave almost nothing in its way of destruction, no life to spare. But we tend to act as some saintly patrons of Animal life security and sanctity.

We seem to impute to Animals certain divine right to exist at par with Humans and yet act to undermine the same right to life of Humans. The usual argument is that Animals cannot talk to express their views or assert their rights, and therefore deserve to be protected. Well, many Humans have at various times in our History, including today, been in similar situation where their speech have been suppressed, their rights confiscated with different excuses.

Often it is the case of those who claim to be more enlightened justifying their egregious acts of pure barbarity on others thought of as inferior. Even we lie to fabricate excuses for such acts, we would get away with them because we are considered more refined, advanced, etc. So, where do we draw the line?

Are we Humans supposed to mete equal rights to Animals? Or, we would be justified in subjecting them to certain fatality on the strength of what we would be killing them for? How important should that reason for the slaughter be?

For those Judaic-Christian believers, could someone educate us as to whether Animals are still offered for Sacrifices in Jewish practices of today? I know Christians claim that the intervention of Jesus permanently deactivated any justification for such Animal sacrifice. Let us learn what most benefits us all.

So, unless you are just taking this opportunity to simply insult and attack Ashantis, possibly out of your misguided bigotry, there is no basis for your comment about Ashantis. You should be ashamed of yourself if it is out of sheer bigotry you chose to insult Ashantis. And you know what, the way your comment came out does not show much of your being more enlightened than the Ashantis you insulted.

If slaughtering Animals for some spiritual invocation is "nkurasesem" to you, it is perfectly understandable to criticize it. But, please, do not single out only Ashantis for such attacks.

Meanwhile, would you explain further to us why you think such an act is "nkurasesem"? Could you suggest any act that can replace the function of that ritual, in case you even know what the ritual was purported to do, something that would satisfy you as being "apremansem" or "anibue"?

As much as I would like to see such acts of rituals discontinued and replaced with something more humane and only symbolic, I strongly take exception to how you seem to suggest that the whole tribe of Ashantis are primitive.
