The party reps should go into those retreats with a knowledge-based approach facilitated by the said independent study and after preliminary discourse with their own. Biometric machine problem is a problem but chief among the problems is buying of votes by the various parties. When this is alleged, no action is taken against the party. I don't know why the police or the EC do not investigate such allegations. Such allegations are some of the happenings which start to heat tension in the country. The EC or the constitution must spell what counts as bribery during election time. The ruling government must also be restricted from spending our money in certain ways to buy votes from a group or from a community during election time. The constitution must touch on the behaviour. or actions of ruling parties during election time. What the party in power can do and cannot do must be spelled in the constitution, just to protect our coffers from misuse and allow fair elections.

Vote buying is under stress! Why? Many voters now collect and vote in the secrecy of the booth the way they deem fit! We shall be seeing more of this. The politicians will eventually be the losers because they will get indebted. As the people get more vigilant and our institutions begin to roar there will be little room to manoeuvre. Our priority should be avoiding a situation where politicians dance to the tune of a powerful minority; avoid exclusion from voting because of unforeseen technicalities; dictatorship of non-signing of pink sheets by those doing so deliberately; blackmail by sore losers; manipulation of the system by politicians'etc.

If a law is enacted, it must be respected no matter what but not in Ghana. On the other hand, there must be alternatives as to "what to do if the system fails" but "our good-for-nothing" leaders did not think twice before putting the system into operation.

" ..... the biometric verification machines used for the 2012 elections .... did not necessarily conform to the fingerprint structure of Ghanaianss." This is a nice statement from an expert on biometric elections! Little wonder every Ghanaian who goes to hospital is diagnosed as having Blood Pressure and/or diabetes, because the machines used to check/test blood pressure and/or blood samples were manufactured under standards alien to the black man. We better be careful with the medicines that come from abroad, because they were manufactured under different standards than Africa! Just what are you trying to imply?...that hospitals in the west have two sets of diagnostic equipment---one for blacks and another for whites? And medications? Let us take a simple example: Metformin which is the medication for controlling blood sugar levels in diabetics is the same for blacks and whites everywhere. Unlike humans, diagnostic equipment and medications do not have a racial divide. Some illness may be more prevalent in certain races than others and that is just a fact of life.
But look... biometric verification is such an important barometer for ensuring transparency in our electoral system that we need to thread carefully when looking at ways to make the existing one better...and here we are rushing like the world is ending tomorrow.
Yes, we have to practice democracy to suit our people and not necessarily modeled to the west's. But there lies the big catch: our constitution at the moment in many important aspects follows the American model. The American constitution though, unlike the British constitution which is predominantly unwritten as we all know, happens to be the shortest written constitution in the world, and yet changing just one line in that constitution takes long and tedious debate and discussions in the congress and at the judiciary level...and for a good reason: to prevent zealot and power-hungry politicians to change aspects of the constitution to suit their own beck and call.
The results of the 2012 election taught us that there is a need for electoral reforms...BUT NOT SO FAST.

Well if you may know, I've always tried to alert or inform Ghanaians, even before the 2008 elections that our voting system needs to be reorganized and that the NDC by the help of the EC have rigged elections sine 1992.
There should massive overhaul of our electoral system. Kwadjo Afari-Gyan should be removed immediately before he gets another change to tell Ghanaians that we're fools; that he's clever than everybody and he has the power to do whatever he likes when it comes to elections.
People should have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment to serve as a deterrent to election crime. Unfortunately, some of still believe it's all okay and that election fraud is cool thing to accept by all.

They simply compare the current finger print (in image format) with alreday stored one and use highly probability algorithm to decide if both are the same or not.

Afari-Gyan is an old horse and needs to be ousted from the EC's top position; he lacks modern ideas. He should leave the scene for younger and more knowledgeable people to manage the EC.
Afari-Gyan was going for 500dpi scanners for the elections and had to be challenged by NPP before he changed his mind, citing lack of funds as his reasons. So it's no surprise that he purchased to inferior quality thumb readers for the voting which had problems. Afari-Gyan and his NDC people think they know better than everyone in the country and won't allow people to tell them what is right.
Wanting to remain in power the NDC has succeeded in using the EC as well as the Supreme Court to impose themselves on Ghanaians. It's funny to hear Rawlings praising Atuguba when everyone knows that the man was biased in his verdict. It's a sad, sad situation. I wonder where Ghana is heading to with all the crap going on.
