The FDA is a corporate gate keeping system used to kill compition. If ur not in the corporate new world order, and they just happen to pick on some small guy, watch out. This is a blatant attempt by government at undermining and interfering in the work of a properly mandated institution.There is no argument that there was a breach and that the culprits accepted the wrong doing and apologized confirming the awareness of the wrong doing.So the only matter on the table is what punishment is to be meted out to these culprits.

This exercise by government seems to me to be in bad faith.Either they want to help Tobinco out of a mess of their own making or the government is confused about a perceived crisis management.The FDA is a very important regulatory body and government must encourage its independence.After all the purpose of the FDA as a regulatory body is to make sure that a product is safe for use, and that it has the ingredients and strength it claims to have.

This is a very important task and government must not give succour to culprits through interferences in the FDA work.If in the course of their work they find a company putting the national health and life at risk through the importation of dubious drugs then they should be allowed to be merciless with them.The least Government is expected to do is to back FDA.

The issue at stake and on the strength of the article, if this is the purported action by gov't, smacks of incredulity.
First, the surveillance unit of the FDA through their investigations have found unwholesome, adulterated and substandard drugs on the market, assuming that is the case, because, we have been told that, the drugs have not being tested or subjected to analysis, and so they are fake. That is one issue that needs to be addressed to confirm the adulteration and the necessary remedial action and the requisite punishment, meted out to the culprits, which, we have been informed has been done, by the culprit paying some penalty.
The crux of the matter at this juncture is, how did the medicines find it's way into the country without the "knowledge" of operatives at the FDA and by extension the CEO, and this we believe is the issue that should engage the attention of gov't if there should be any review of this unfortunate saga and debacle, bearing in mind that, the culprit has been punished already. The untested drugs have been withdrawn, they have been made to pay a fine and they have been blacklisted. What is the remedial action which has been directed at the FDA and effecively the CEO, to bring sanity, restore confidence in the FDA and safeguard the health and life of the citizenry, who are ultimately, at the receiving end of this crass and humongous case of institutional and leadership failure, underpinned by corruption? There's no gainsaying the fact that, should there be any review of the Tobinco-FDA saga, the double edged sword, should be applied sacrosanctly, to rid the country of, businessmen turned pharmacists, perceived to be profiting on the back of ailing Ghanaians, the institutional failure and lack of leadership which is a consequence of the lack of knowledge and expertise on the part of the CEO, and also, the huge and unbridled levels of corruption coupled with a monumental level of outright sycophancy at the FDA, is curtailed with immediate effect, since it is the very lives and health of the citizenry that is at stake here. We are of the conviction that, the petition of the UK based Ghanaian Pharmacist, and the call by the PSGH on an indepth investigations on the activities of the FDA is addressed speedily, and the necessary inputs from the various stakeholders are manifestly implemented and supported, to restore the citizen's of this country's confidence in the medications that they take, knowing that, unscurpulous businessmen turned pharmacists are not in cahoots with the CEO of the FDA, to fraudulently peddle their trade on the back of corruption, restore the integrity of the FDA as an institution mandated to ensure that, foods, drugs and ancilliary products that they consume are wholesome, and also, the leadership at the FDA, are knowledgeable, have the requisite experience, and know exactly what they are doing. This case involving the FDA borders on criminal negligence on the part of the CEO, and unlike in his trained profession, where the antidote is amputation of a limb or arm, drug regulation, involving importation, exportation, distribution, supply, consumption etc, etc, is moe than that, and Ghanaians, are of the conviction that, the gov't would address this issue with the utmost seriousness that it deserves.
