Manufacturing put existings things together to produce a working unit that the individual components cannot produce separately on their own. The PC tablet has already been invented, so it cannot be invented a second time.

Yes, this is not an invention. It is an imitation of an existing product. I hope there are no copyright laws that have been infringed upon. I also wonder why they call it 'pocket tablet' when it looks bigger than most tablets out there and can definitely not fit into anyone's pocket.

However, that takes a great effort to copy. That's how the Chinese people are 'inventing' stuff these days. If it is good for a 'Chinaman' it should be good for a 'Ghanaman'. Before long, Mr. Addae is likely to come up with a unique invention of his own. Good luck to him.

I thought it was only Ghanaian journalists who did not understand English and worse-still, how to use that language. Or perhaps this was another propaganda stint by the High Commissioner?

Ghanaian journalists have continued to ludicrously misinform us that a group of students and their lecturer at KNUST a few years ago, invented a car. Other local journalists have also gone on to claim that some Ghanaians have invented a fufu pounding machine, a camera, and even an airplane and all that, years and even centuries after the original patents were established.

The bottom line is that more often than not, these are not inventions. Much as these efforts are commendable in all respects, at best, what they may really be are simply improvements and/or alterations to existing technologies and patents.

I am not discounting the possibility of young Ghanaians to invent anything. Indeed if or when you go to the 'Circle' area of Accra and you see what barely illiterate young boys and girls who sell and repair mobile phones can do with phones and computer gadgets, it makes me feel like a complete illiterate.

It is one of the few areas in our society where I get some hope that our much abused country can be salvaged from the mismanagement terrorism of our contemporary politicians and educated elite.

I cannot fail to mention that over the years and decades, many genuine 'discoveries' have also been made in the area of traditional medicines.

However due to the lack of interest by our pompous westernized medical officials and of govt, many of these 'discoveries' are quietly 'stolen' with the help of educated Africans, by global pharmaceutical and chemical companies who unknown to us, make billions of dollars each year from these 'traditional' medicines.

Although, this is not really an invention in the strictest form of the word, I hope it goes some way to stir up the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among Ghanaians. Ghanaians will do well to patronize this product, if for no reason, at least as a patriotic duty to our country and to encourage other entrepreneurs to come up with more innovative ideas. The Kia cars, Samsungs electronics, the iPad are all already made things yet the Japanese and Chinese came with their own versions and call them made in Japan or China.

In fact history shows that computers were invented as far back as the 1648. What about that?

There we go again, poor presentation and journalism. In this case, both the presenters and the article writer are all misleading Ghanaians and the rest of the world. Which is a big mockery. First of all, did this create any of the parts of this product from the scratch? Secondly, does he have a patent for this product? Thirdly, what is so new about this product that is not already out there? This is something the this guy assembled by buying after market parts from China or India. So, what is the big deal about it? It great for him to do that because if the the product becomes successful, it will create employment opportunities a lot of people in the country but please, do not exaggerate.
And I do not know why these writers call themselves journalists, and yet can not write proper articles. Most of the times, their choice of words and the usage of English are very bad. That makes me wonder, if we do have a school of journalism in Ghana? And if do not, then we need one. Because it is so disgraceful to the country. Journalism is at its worse in Ghana. With FM radio stations popping up everywhere with majority of spreading false news. Just look Kwesi Pratt Jr. of the Insight News paper giving Mamah, 3 months to fix the country's economy. How is that possible?

Not even the greatest names produce the parts themselves: they ALL import from China and do assemble.

However, the question is, why are you showing/presenting this ‘invention’ to a political officer of Ghana? What has the ambassador/high commissioner got to do with your ‘invention’. The first thing you should have done, was call a press conference in Accra, or even in London, or wherever you are located. Then present your product, and ask for investors to invest in your product in order to provide the financial support for the advancement of your dream.

Showing it to a politician is typical Ghana fare. It is a sorry part of our political upbringing under Nkrumah’s socialism and central planning where the belief was/is that ‘government does/facilitate everything’! We cannot advance with that kind of mentality. One Apostle Safo claimed to have ‘developed’ a car and other products; he ‘showed his ‘inventions’ to the government, and that was it!

When Bill Gates and others had their big ideas, the ideas were patented; they called on friends and relatives to invest and provide the initial capital for the production; and the rest, as they say is history. When others realized how successful it was, more investors/shareholders joined in! That is how wealth is created. That is how employment is created.

Governments create enabling environment for people like you to test their ideas. The first step you should take then is to seek investors, if you wish to be successful.
