  This article is well researched and the author must be commended for this insightful piece. I think turning this gloomy situation in Africa must not be left only in the hands of politicians. Radical intellectual pressure groups must be formed to challenges our politicians to implement the right policies, devoid of intellectual dishonesty, based on empirical research findings.

  Serious monetary investment - from around the world - will NEVER happen until African GOVERNMENTS stop stealing!
  
  Every nation on the continent is governed by corrupt, fraudulent and confiscatory regimes. Somalia is the worst and South Africa is at the top of the list of 'also corrupt'. They are all corrupt - some just more than others.
  
  (FYI - The U.S. government, also corrupt, is starting to look like African governments).
  
  There will be no change, nor improvement, on the continent until another WOrld War is staged right in the middle of of the continent and more than 400 million black people are killed.
  
  The occupying victors will launch re-construction, eliminate the 'tribal' oppression, implement new currencies, draw new borders, build transportation infrastructure and execute the remaining despots.
  
  The, and only then, will the continent be 'dragged' into the 21st century - and begin to merge into the rest of civilization
  
  That will take 50 years.
