John Mahama though was not up to the task, but for lack of intellectuals in NDC, he was imposed on us and subsequently has become an albatross. So far, it is only a Scottish bastard-Rawlings and a Fante-Mills who have ruled. We pray the next time after this northerner-Mahama, a Ga will be elected, then a Kwahu, Ewe, Sefwi Nzema etc. Was Mills not Rawlings's Vice?- Scottish-Fante. Akans once dominated the PNDC and NDC very significantly and still do to a large measure though influence is now much dispersed, with the Northerners coming into their own now thanks to the fruits of the free education they have been receiving. The core problem which Ayikoi should have pointed out is that the NPP is virulently ethnocentric, from rank to its leadership! Being Akan simply is the crux of that crucible, as even some non-Akans such as Gas in their midst, share their stereotyping and vilification of Ewes, their main target, for instance. Of course, enlightened Gas with a conscience find them very much obnoxious as Ewes just like me. That's why some of them joined as vocal lieutenants in the Moral Brigade that cleaned Okyeame of such vermins and jaded characters.

This is what must be drummed home to them. I've resolved to that whether they like it or not. Just about to launch my long awaited Winter Offensive.

Thirdly, I doubt if you are an Ewe. If you are, then you are in your own ignorant world. Where did you ever read any Ewes hounding Asantes? Is it not rather the case that some Asantes and their hangers-on have been hounding Ewes forever? If some of us Ewes, e.g., the late Kofi Awoonor, chose to respond to them, can you call that hounding Asantes? Or, you'd prefer the response of someone like Dr Kodzi, who wrote a book, Ghana: Worst Than Apartheid S. Africa, pointing out the Anlos as the Ewes to be killed? I called you ignorant already, so you no doubt never heard of that book! Well, I am an Anlo who had had enough of the bloody-minded jingoist, crass nonsense! I've on my table at home a publication by a Ewe group from the Ewedome area based in the UK which even targeted us! I am yet to deal with that, and will when I am finished dealing with the Akan front in my coming series.

I know all about the UP but the NPP is an off-shoot of the PP REPRESENTING THE NLM wing rather than the UP tradition comprising many parties. Akpaloo, for instance, didn't support the PP in 1969 but rather Joe Appiah's "ame ba ba se".

I've written off Mahama as not so wise already, so I really don't expect much from him. Yes, his appts make me cringe! Well, he has decided to ride the tiger so we shall see how he'd get down it. Read my "Staying In The Frying Pan" and see how much he has failed my acid test already.

People are just talking about things I wrote last year as crucial to focus on!

And this ethnic imbroglio? Been writing about it since the early 1990s!

I was in Ghana in December 2002 when the Asantes and the Akyems were buying newspaper centre spreads to wage their "internecine" warfare. I was horrified but relieved, as fighting amongst themselves made them to take attention from we poor, struggling Ewes!

Now, how can appointing a principal to a school in Ghana be the concern of some students? BTW, the Rev. Antwi is most likely an Akan too, as Antwi is a common Akan name, though there are some Ewes of Akan origins with Akan names. And there is a whole bunch of an Ewe sub-group with Ga-Fanti origins marrying with Ewes, the so-called Mina-Ewes centred around southern Togo Republic. Ewes are thus people of mixed linguistic origins, not any single tribal group from the past. Our eventual homeland became the so-called Slave Coast, as some of you surely know already. But that is quite another story, even though it is much a part of the reason for the formation of what I've dubbed "native prejudice" against us by non-Ewe Ghanaians.

At least in the NPP they elect whoever they feel will best represent them. What do we see in the NDC today?

If you are not from the North you do not count and even if you are counted there is a Northerner watching your back and that has got the likes of Gen Mosquito mad.

The perception in the NDC is that the Executive should always be led by an Ewe.....true or false. Is it not true that Portuphy said he was going to break that?

At times politicians are too simplistic in their thinking. The NPP like any other party has been holding elections to pick their presidential candidate. The candidate the electorate perceives to be the best is elected, so how does that make the party an Akan party be cuse an Akan won the primary. In 2007, out of the 17 candidates, the only non-Akan was Vice Prez Aliu Mahama. If the three northern regions, the Volta Region and Greater Acra, which are non-Akan had voted for Liu Mahama, wouldn't he have won the race? This was an open election. If you read the details, Nana Akufo-Addo even won in the 3 northern regions. John Mahama did very well in all the Akan regions. So why do Ghanaians flog this tribal issue so incessantly? I am a northerner, but I will never cast my vote for a candidate based on where he is from. That is what they call inwardlooking.

Plus the blatant rejection of someone who had occupied the number two seat of Ghana for eight years, these are enough examples to justify the Akan party tag. We should stop behaving like ostriches and take the bull by the horn. After all if NPP is seen as a national party it will be victory for our relatively young democracy.
