KABI MA ME KABI, you're unfortunately far beind time. This is utterly blind copying. We Africans, particularly Ghanaians, like copying too much. King George I's time was much different from today. We therefore can't apply the same principle here.

We talk so much about democracy with its tenets of freedom of expression (or free speech), having copied much of the American constitution for our own, without taking into account our culture. And you see how it's being abused in Ghana. This Western concept of democracy won't work in Ghana. If it should work, then we need to amend the constitution to reflect our culture and we must stop the blind copying that we engage in.

The Chronicle, what kind of English is this: 'He continued that some MPs ...'? I've observed that your journalists are among those who write this kind of poor English in your newspapers and in the e-media. And I've seen this phrase 'He continued that ...' again and again in your reportage. Why don't you say something like, 'He further said that ...'? or 'He added that ...'?

While going to school in the 1960s and the '70s, lots of us students would buy newspapers like the Daily Graphic, The Ghanaian Times, The Sunday Mirror and the like not only to be informed of the news but also to learn the kind of good English used in them. One cannot say the same thing about today's Chronicle. Indeed, it's unfortunate that The Chronicle is one of the worst when it comes to the bad grammar they write. I think this is happening because the Editor himself doesn't seem to have a grasp of good grammar. What The Chronicle should therefore do is to hire competent editors with a good educational background who would in turn hire well-qualified journalists who wouldn't use the kind of junior secondary school leavers' English that has become its trademark.

The sooner the better.
