All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered. 2 Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare[a] of their slaves.

Mahama says he's tackling the thorny issue, why not give him an inch's respite and allow him to think his way through it? The President has just not even made a year. Compared to Kufuor Mahama is on the right track. Kufuor denied there was corruption in his government.

John Mahama probably was banking on the news about the alleged corruption going away, as they all do with time. In his case a number of factors have come together to ensure that this time they will not go away unless he acts. The several incidences, the amounts involved, the huge budget fiscal deficit, the suspicion that he did not win the elections on merit and his failure to articulate a clear direction are all feeding into the current problem.

It is about time that he accepts that until he acts, the perception will not go away. However since he enjoys near absolute power, as conferred by our Constitution, he can turn this around to his benefit if he so desires.

His asking for the nation to wait and see is not one of the options and neither is the half-baked attempt at prosecuting Woyome. A lot rides on the Woyome case than he probably realises. If by some quirk, he is acquitted, Mahama and the NDC should forget about election 2016. That is why it is in his interest to prosecute that case with all seriousness.

What can Mahama do? He should immediately address the nation, in the spirit of transparency, to explain why prices of utilities have gone up – it is to balance the books. He should not be clutching at this ‘PURC is independent nonsense’. He should tell the nation what the huge loans contracted are being/ have been used for and the benefits we are to derive from them and over what time frame.

He should announce the appointment of an independent Special Prosecutor to seriously investigate and prosecute all corruption cases. This special Prosecutor should be independent of the Attorney Generals Department. I am thinking of someone like Martin Amidu. He should be supported by resources seconded from all the security agencies. He should have the free hand to engage other former and present state prosecutors to help him in this task. Above all, such an office should be well-resourced with funds to carry out its mandate. The President should give him the free hand to investigate all cases of corruption in public life that are not affected by statutes of limitation.

If he does this, Mahama will start getting positive headlines, which will then make the job of governing a little bit easier. His popularity will soar to the heavens if at the same time he is to fire or demote the novices around him to be replaced by competent and experienced advisors and appointees. He should study Bill Clinton’s first term when he went to Washington with George Stephanoupolis and Dee Dee Myers. It was near disaster until he appointed seasoned operators some of whom were even ideologically opposed to him. The rest they say is history.

For instance, Ghanaians know who among us sold the drill ship belonging to GNPC and did not do proper accounting of the proceeds from the transaction. Those expressing concerns about corruption should be talking about the principals involved in the drill ship sale instead of yelling at Mahama. Would that be fair?

If Mahama has engaged in acts of corruption that we know of let's attack him on his record instead of showing him animus for other people's actions.
