Chieftaincy is not our problem, democracy is. We are somehow cursed with useless leaders as our Presidents, Ministers and MPs and yet, we have time to talk to condemn chieftaincy.

IF Chieftaincy has outlived its usefulness, what about our democracy? Should we abolish our democracy too?

Human right is the least of the three rights. GOD'S right first, followed by the right of our CULTURE. Human right comes last. Any human right that goes against God's right or the right of our culture cannot be tolerated in Ghana, such as gay, etc.

We live in the world of confusion impregnated with paradoxes, that is why or may be this is African Republic.

Mr. Kwesi Pratt sees himself as God in Ghananian culture because he is a journalist with his own newspaper who can get on any media and say anything on his mind. Yes, Chieftaincy is becoming an obsolete in our culture not because the institution discriminates against the handicap citizens. It is dying slowly because our traditional rulers refuse to change. Any institution that fails to metamorphoses is an institution in moribund and only waiting for its demise.
Secondly, our traditional rulers can not take constructive criticism because they think they are above that.
Thirdly, we have accepted constitutional government as an acceptable system of government that ensures every citizens' equal right hence the commoner becomes the agent of the government who has the power from the national government and can tell the traditional ruler his piece of mind and where the government wants to develop or when the government wants to develop. It is through these assessments that a commoner like Kwesi Pratt can get on a media outlet to castigate the chieftaincy without consequences.
If chieftaincy will stop looking up to the national government, and develop their traditional areas, and become leaders in their culture and take charge instead of kowtowing to the political government, the institution might survive another day.

This stand therefore can not represent the universal set of chiefs in Ghana.

At the top level, national politics discriminates against the ordinary citizen i.e. the voters but does that mean we should do away with national politics? Is it not the politician who feeds the citizenry with falls promises during elections and when they get there do as they please because they know they have 4/5 years to 'butter their own bread' whilst kicking sand into the poor citizen's gari? Reform within the institution is what is needed NOT an ill conceived idea of abolition ...which in my view won't work but set the country on fire.

In an article I'm writing, I call for allowing our chiefs a modicum of political power - i.e. administering their traditional jurisdictions, acting like CEO's, with the caveat that they become ICT savvy. We forget that our chiefs are now highly educated; even more than some of our politicians & judges.

All those that put claim to chieftancy titles in society must be of high intellect, be willing to contribute to the state, rather than being state-dependant as most of our present day chiefs are. The role of chieftancy should be abolished if we want to advance as a nation.

Who can account for all monies our former past leaders stole and stashed in foreign accounts? Look at Mahama, as soon as he ascend the throne, there was this gold shipment to Dubai via Iran. It became something "cloudy" which no one was able to ascertain the actual truth.

Afrifa took our gold to develop his village at Krobo and according to some reliable sources, JJ ordered some soldiers to intercept a gold shipment from Obuasi and on one knew what happened to that gold.

Issues like these are endless and how many of our chiefs can be directly involved? Democracy is what is destroying our nation and not our chiefs.

Imagine the rot under the current administration. Gyeeda, Woyome, Isofoton, Subha, etc, how many of our chiefs are involved?

Before this type of government came to us from the White man, it is our chiefs/Kings who are in charge and though not prefect, they were doing quite okay and there was no compromising RESPECT among us. What do we see today? Looting brigades under something called "president" aided by some elements labeled as "ministers, mps etc". There are bad chiefs but that should not be used to smear the entire chieftaincy institution. If Ghana is under the care of our chiefs, they would perform better that the "rats" we have employed to destroy our inner soul through burrowing tunnels to our sensitive parts.

Ghana is dying under democratic governance and not under our chieftaincy.

My tick is that we can bring life into the CHIEVETAINCY INSTITUTION by changing our constitution. We have chieves in every town and village in Ghana. When the EUROPEANS were here, they used them to announce any new laws and give information to everybody through town criers.Very effective.We had Min. of Info. supporting them with Adult Edu. film Then ,of course, was town councillors who also saw to it that sanitary inspectors went from house to house to inspect Cleanliness. If the Min of FINANCE and THE lawmakers (PARLIAMENT) can agree to employ all chieves with salaries to ensure that all the above duties are put in their care, we can begin to see that our towns and cities are clean and corruption are also diminished or eradicated.It is believed that some chieves are corrupted so as to agree to some smart crimes. Now, we can make the Regional KINGS, most of whom are well Educated, to be MAYORS and they will help with the Development of their CITIES. Then we can see how iffective this will be INSTEAD of DCEs which can be off the table. Thereby given the power to the people who can confront their chief if they lack Development.
