Exactly Nana, the genesis of our present economic predicament is due to two things ;

1. The SSSS salary structure consuming 75% of government revenue is untenable. We were using 25% of government revenue for the same purpose in 2008. USA spend only 4% of federal budget on government workers. Europe on average spend 10% of government revenue on government workers salaries.

2. The government has grown too big. We have 700,000 government workers with about 690 working at the Presidency. As recently as 2008, we had 550,000 government workers and this Ndc government for the past five years has added 150,000 workers to the government payroll.

We need to cut this number to 350,000. We need only 10 Ministries, 150 Parliamentarians.

Government should stop providing housing and free utilities to Ministers, Parliamentarians and Judges. This colonial mentality has outlived its usefulness.

His agenda on broadening opportunities through education to reach every Ghanain; Ewes, Northerners and Akans all alike is unprecedented. Discerning Ghanaians could easily see that, it was this project Nana Addo intended to expand by his Free For All education from Pre KG to the Senior High. The NDC too in order not to lose their political capital after the election of 2008, did not have the guts or "balls" to abandon the SSSS policy and this has created an enormous problem for NDC. Considering the fact that more people and sectors are yet to be placed on this program, the NDC can be bold enough right now to scrap it once and for all as being suggested by the Otumfuo. Yes, it is definitely going to anger folks with more industrial unrest, just as what happened in Greece, but this is the time to do it. We still have 3 good years to correct the mistake before the next election. More education is needed by the government to be able to cancel it. Otumfuo's advice is a wise one.

The economic growth and development to support the policy has also lost it's bearing wholly because, the economic brains to drive the growth again, is just not there. Corruption has become an official gov't policy initiated right from the Flagstaff house, and has taken over all governance structures. Now, we know one of them was aiming for 1 million dollars. How much are the rest aiming for? Can we safely say, that the public debt profile is a direct consequence of machinations by the corruption riddled Mahama/Amissah Arthur administration's penchant to amass various dollars amounts in millions and billions? The real issue facing Ghana and Ghanaian Leaders is our inability to recognize what is fiscally DOABLE AND ATTAINABLE and make decisions based on economic viability on our productivity and output of the nation.
There are three (3)issues that must be done to lesse the burden of the single spine pay structure.
It is either to reduce all salaries by about 25% to the level before the single spine and/ or cut all benefits enjoyed by public(government) employees.
What we are seeing in Ghana is excesses in government payroll from the president down to ordinary laborer employed by the government. President's salary, Ministers salary, Judiciary salaries and parliamentarians salaries have been doubled and even tripled because of single spine whereas our productivity has decreased and everybody is cutting corners in their own way to enrich themselves. The problem facing Ghana is foremost greed and the attitude of chop and let me chop. Eventually, the top is going to fall off and unless we all agree to come to reasonable consensus and accept economic reality of free enterprise the whole country will eventually dis inergrate. The problem facing Ghana was started from both NPP and NDC. and cannot be solved by one administration. It is a proposition that either we all agree to reform and change or we disintergrate. There is no economy in this whole world that can support over 70% governmental payroll and benefit system without regard of development of infra structure, payment of debt service and without planning for the future. We are caught up in a proverbial Julius Ceaser Syndrome, " THE FAULT DEAR BRUTUS IS NOT IN OUR STARS BUT THE FAULT DEAR BRUTUS IS IN OURSELVES". LONG LIVE GHANA!
