Harry Sawyerr served as Minister for Transport in the Limann PNP government, and within two years introduced city express buses. You pay 1 cedi to anywhere in Accra, there inter-city buses everywhere, and the amazing thing is that the buses paid for themselves, costing the state nothing. He improved railways and increased the fleet of Ghana Airways planes and Black Star Line Ships. All this time he never took salary as Minister. He is a role model every public servant must learn from.

Kojo, good tribute, but you forgot to add that he was Minister for Transport and Communications (when government was reasonable and not as big as NDC and NPP have done by breaking ministries into small units and multiplying the cost of govt). He introduced the Kuntunse satellite station and brought new and modern equipment to GBC and Ghana Films. He gave his salary to charity. HE WAS EXCEPTIONAL.

Kojo, in addition to the service to Ghana, he provided candidate John Attah Mills a free house at Kuku Hill, which the late president used as his campaign headquarters. Mills later appointed Harry's highly qualified daughter as one of his deputy chief of staff. He was also royal to president Hilla Limann during the intra-party struggles of 1981, when businessman Addai Amoako was jabbing president Limann left, right and centre adding to the confusion that led to the coup of 31st December 1981. Paa Harry, RIP. Hope some one close to him would write his story.

here we go again with the theater of propaganda tricks making it appear they want to do the right thing by criticizing themselves , its all lies , dont fall for the hype .we respected the call for a truce after they came crying to us to give the pepeni some slack and stop calling him kwasea which he is and aboa which is also a known fact . when they saw we were quiet they went back to blaming the innocent for their own incompetence and lack of any plan or idea of how to move things forward which we already knew they would do . instead they rain the airwaves with their vomit and feces claiming that some petition was the cause of their non performance and their inability to recognize the Akans or better put the fantis supposedly gave them a third of the vote but not a single cabinet minister is a fanti. they rob the 800,000 Akan cocoa farmers of their money by not paying them the true value of their produce but less than half to keep them in poverty. they say they fight corruption but every pepeni is running around selling time with the president for 500 cedis to 5 million dollars . they have put so much fear in the civil servants with their bullying and bossing around that healthy decisions can no be made rather foolish ideas and wishful thinking are commonplace . everywhere you go Chinese , Indians , Turkish , Brazilians and Arabs led by the Lebanese raping our economy dry . the result being the Akans are now politically one although the gap between the fantis and ashantis is still there due to the mistrust and selfishness of some. the revolution or war to rid ourselves of this pepeni/ayigbe pestilence is around the corner so we work diligently to prepare , long live the republic of Akan

Aki was the Pro Vice Chanceller of University of Ghana some time ago, and as far as I know, is still alive. Hon. Harry Sawyer was a Chartered Surveyor by training, and a great statesman who was awarded the Order of The Volta. He is from Osu, and traces his lineage maternally to the Lokko family.

He jumped on the PNDC murder wagon when Rawlings made himself "Chairman" Rawlings. Sawyer had no principles. In any case, I wish him a peaceful rest.

Smartness and common sense should have nothing to do with any one political party. It cuts across all boundaries. Hon. Harry Sawyer was a distinguished statesman who left his mark in a wide range of areas locally, nationally and internationally. Did you know that he was jailed for three months following the December 31st coup detat? He still served as education minister under the very group that jailed him. Even his detractors respected his skills and wise counsel. Name another Ghanaian like Hon. Harry Sawyer. RIP Hon. Harry Sawyer.

Harry (and not Akilapka) Sawyer may have done some good things and he might be credited with introducing Tata buses from India into Ghana. My main direct encounter with him was when he served as Chairman of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Board and he was absolutely terrible!!!

He nearly caused a major crisis among junior doctors when he tried to use his position to break rules set by the hospital regarding emergency treatment, and subsequently tried to get one of my colleagues who was doing his job properly 'punished' just because he felt he was 'Harry Sawyer'.

That in mny view is unbecoming a statesman and if it is anything to go by, I would say, yes, give him his due for whatever he did but be mindful of showering 'unfettered' praise to someone just because he is no longer with us.

Margaret Tatcher's death recently in the UK did not reverse her very devisive, controversial, arrogant nature and the bad decisions she took which partly contributed to the recent economic cricises across Europe and elsewhere, and which is still affecting all of us.
