  Considering that you are a medical professional, it certainly would have been nice and relevant if you had mentioned the difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. My daughter who is 12 has had type 1 diabetes for five years. She constantly endures criticism from teachers and school mates about how she could have prevented it and that she could CURE it! Of course, you and I both know that type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease and that nothing she did caused her to get it. I wish you would not perpetuate that misinformation and would take the opportunity to clarify this.

  To help your daughter out of this crisis there must be a life style change in what type of food she is feed.
  I will try to be as brief as possible here.
  
  You will need to use a Juice Blender everyday.
  
  1. No type of process food, Can or Bottled Soft Drinks, Can Soups, Fish etc. what-so-ever must be consumed.
  
  They all contains synthetic compounds & chemicals (preservatives) that causes diabetes.
  
  2. Change/Cleanse & build her blood whilst boosting her immune system with this tried & tested treatment of mine.
  
  a) 1 Jelly Coconut
  b) 1 Avocado Pear
  c) 1 table spoon of Moringa powder,
  d) 1 Aloe Vera Leaf:-Scope out the
  flesh only.
  e) 1 Handful of Atta-drey (Tiger
  nut) Tiger nut Milk
  f) 5 Table spoon of Linseed/Flax
  seed
  
  Firstly, Pour (E) & (F) into the blender with half a pint of & blend for about 4 mins until the mixture goes milky white.
  Strain/sieve the contents into a container.
  
  Then washout the blender.
  
  Pour the mixture back into the blender & add (a) coconut water (b) Avocado Pear (c) Moringa powder (d)Aloe Vera.
  
  Blend all the contents listed for about 3 mins until smooth and serve.
  
  This is a natural healing & nutritious liquid food for her.
  
  There are scientific researched documents available for all these ingredients if you wish to know.
  
  WARNING! PLEASE GET HER BLOOD TESTED PERIODICALLY ..GLUCOSE LEVEL TESTING

I think if I would be willing to listen to your "cure" my daughter would be dead in a week. Insulin is her ONLY OPTION ans the only way to keep her ALIVE!! And no, type 1 diabetes is NOT preventable. No lifestyle changes, no dietary restrictions, no exercise regimens could have prevented her from contracting it nor can they cure her of it. "Perhaps" your remedies can work for someone with type 2 diabetes, but if you believe what you write for my type 1 daughter then you really are a bush doctor and I fear for your patients.

  Just FYI my daughter was breastfed for more than 2 years, and she has lived in Ghana since before then -- nearly 11 years now. So what processed food and drinks do you think did it? The kenkey, gari, banku, tilapia, kontomire, etc that she eats nearly every single day? Or could it have been the Big Macs and Whoppers. Oh wait,we don't have McDonalds or Burger King here. How silly of me. She developed type 1 diabetes at the age of 7, while living here in Ghana, and was diagnosed at Korle Bu where she stayed for a week to take her from death's door.

Have you read about Dr. Denise Faustman's advances? She is now looking to raise funds for human trials to determine the efficacy of BCG to restore beta cells. I am hopeful. This would be a real cure, not just a placebo like the bionic pancreas for rich, well-insured people in developed countries. It would be wonderful for all of Ghana's type 1 diabetics to have access to this. :) Again, many thanks and kind regards.

  Type 1 Diabetes, formerly known as Juvenile diabetes is an autoimmune disease. The body attacks and destroys the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Without insulin, you will day. Type 1's must supply insulin to their bodies. No amount of cinnamon, juicing drinks or exercise is going to fix this. Not breastfeeding does not lead to diabetes. Things you eat do not cause Type 1.
  
  I am a mom of a Type 1. We have been living with this for 7 years now. Had I followed Mr Bush Doctor's advice, my child would be dead.

  Your article hits on some valid points. However, you really should have used Type 2 in your article. There is a big difference between Type 2 and Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disease. Much like Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Thyroid disease, there is no way to stop it or cure it. Natural medicine may help in the management of diabetes, but especially in type 1, it will not cure it. There is no cure for Type 1 diabetes, and I think this is where you are confused. Type 2 can sometimes, but not always be reversed with diet, medication and exercise, but NOT type 1. Just so you know, I have identical twins. Neither were breastfed. They have an incredibly healthy diet. They are active in dance and sports. Yet, one has diabetes and one doesn't.
  People with Type 1 diabetes need insulin to live. There is no way to bring their pancreas back to life. Any reputable doctor who has gone to medical school and has learned about the pancreas knows this. Maybe you need to hit the books again, or come out of the bush and live in the real world.

  This week I have been forced to comment twice on my article; something I rarely do.
  I do not believe there are any benefits to throwing out insults etc.
  My article was based on Type 2 Diabetes which is by far the commonest variety and the type that our LIFESTYLE has the most impact on.
  As far as medical science is concerned as at this morning; we are unable to PREVENT Type 1 and neither can we cure it BUT with the appropriate medication and lifestyle changes we MAY reduce its impact on our lives.
  Others may have different views but harsh words will not change those ONLY education can. We are all here to learn and improve lives so that we can be happier and more productive.
  Enjoy your weekend
