The fight against corruption, abuse of power and impunity must be proactive and not reactive. We do not need to wait to be charged with poor leadership in fighting it before reacting in seeking to show leadership where we had all the opportunity but failed to be proactive.

Good leaders act; they do not wait to react to situations. Ghanaians will have difficulty electing another President from the geo-political north which the President and myself come from for more than thirty years after he has left office should this President fail to fight corruption, abuse of office and impunity in obedience to our ancestors and God during his tenure of office. A few weeks ago some block heads defied Ghana's High Court orders granting Jake Obetsebi to take over a state property he duly purchased from the state, and insisted the keys of the said property be handed over to the PWD instead of Jake. This is against the background of many former govt officials from Nkrumah through Rawlings to Kufuor benefiting from acquiring state properties. So now that Merchant Bank is being off loaded for a pittance to friends and family of John Mahama, where are these block heads to block the sale? As is said, the child who does not allow it's mother to sleep also does not sleep. It's time for well meaning Ghanaians to occupy Merchant Bank until a transparent sale occurs.

It was the EO Group that brought Kosmos Energy (after Chevron, Exxon, etc had given up on fidning oil in Ghana) to Ghana to finally discover the oil we now have. The Kosmos Group and its backers sank $500 million to find the oil and had all the wells run dry, that group would have lost that money and Ghana would have lost nothing. The deal bewteen Kosmos and the EO Gorup was a priveate deal fairly standard in the industry. So stop your nonsense and educate yourself about the details before spewing thrash!!!

Between 2002 and 2006, this person shuttled between Accra and Texas 18 (eighteen) good times all in the pursuit of Cosmos to come to Ghana to do oil exploration. And before then he had been in the oil industry for more than 20 (twenty) years. As part of the deal in the construct of the exploration project, the EO group was allotted 3% shares in Cosmos for the exploratory project and that is standard practice in the industry. And mine you before this company successfully struck oil in Ghana there had been previous failures involving millions of dollars. The Ekuoba views expressed are pure jaundiced for whatever purpose he alone knows. So, please, speak and or write from informed position and stop this nonsense of equalization. People forget that SSNIT use to collect 17.5% contribution of workers. At the age of 60 a worker on retirement is paid a lump sum and pension every month.The contribution has now been increased to 18% however SSNIT is to give out 5% to private fund managers investors and retain 12.5%. This law was passed during NPP regime and the members of NPP did not see anything wrong with it. These people are saying that workers should not allow the sell of Merchant Bank to Ghanaians, but to First Rand Bank of South Africa. SSNIT by the new Pension Law passed under NPP regime lost 5% of contribution from Ghanaian workers and the fund manager and custodians are both foreign and Ghanaian.
If all those companies are Ghanaian, it means that it will prevent capital flight and we shall have domestic banks to borrow from. The case of NPP is that the bank should be sold to a foreigner, which is against CPP, NDC and PNC agitation some time ago that Ghana Telecom and Ghana Commercial Bank should not to sold out by the state.
NPP is saying that Ghanaians should not be allowed to own what belongs to Ghana, it must go the foreigners so that we remain hewers of wood and fetcher of water for the white man. NPP's message is that Ghanaians should not owe what belongs to Ghana.

If this bad debt could not be collected / traced when they had a larger share, you think the zeal to go after the 70% will be there now? Give us a break!

Also can BOG come out to clarify why:
- A local bank that could not raise the required capital to set up a bank can all of a sudden come up with 90 million and
- their rational for accepting the lower bid for a higher stakeholding. Does this make sense?
First Rand Bank offered Ghc199.3 million for only 75 percent of Merchant Bank, but was rejected. Fortiz is offering Ghc90 million for 90 percent of the Bank and the Bank of Ghana says it has approved of the agreement.
