When I read about Ghana's concept of public-private-partnership, I thought I was dreaming. Completely infantile! Ludicrous strategies to loot the nation. Not in a million years will the country get out of poverty if they continue down this path. Politicians prefer to put the money in their pockets instead of resourcing the hospitals. The idea is to fly abroad for medical treatment. But when some start dying mid-air before the flight touches down, the rest will think again.

It ranges from heads of states who use family members to siphon state money from banks and institutional establishment to the ordinary officials who acquires properties in the names of relatives all acquired through fraudulent means. It also makes the year the most dormant in terms of prosecution and governmen tal oversight. Never in the history of this country has there been this level of open corruption. And Parliament usually makes all that possible. It is sad !

In fact some serious-minded multi-party committee (competent reps from all parties...PURE VOLUNTEERS preferably who must demonstrate genuine interest in protecting Ghana's interest and welfare) must be put in place to oversee, albeit police, ALL expenditure of our precious minerals...gold, oil, diamond etc etc.

In fact, some of these appointees are simply unscrupulous. Eg what reason will anybody have for renting a place at such high cost when plans are afoot to build their own office in only one year...

And for what reason would anybody have for selling a drillship..."a cash cow"..." the hen laying the golden eggs" other than corruption - line their pockets...

Can the laws change for the financial statements and remunerations of all these national organisations be gazetted/published in national papers for public scrutiny...every year?

That level of transparency MIGHT deter potential governement appointees from wantonly stealing state property...

Leasing an office building alone for $39.0 million dollars and you turn round and literally big for aid from western countries. I wonder why these western countries will support such a thieving regime in Ghana. I hope the USAID and Britsih Overseas development Organization groups are watching the root going in Ghana. What are these people stealing for. A presidency should never be trusted to some one who has not been trusted with money in his our her life, nor to a poor man. Atta Mills has really ditched Ghana . What is happening under Mahama and NDC today? Something is wrong with our sytem of government with people who have no shame running Ghana. They are asking for another revolution and I hope they will not run from town when it comes. Enough is enough. Mahama you have let us all down. It is shocking to read some of these stories. And Rawlings says kufour was worse. Why not raise the flag over what this mahama man is presiding over in Ghana. Is the parliamentary Finance committee seriously working? Stop NDC and Mahama from dissipating Ghana's reserves. Drive them out of office, even if it means impeaching this inept and corrupt guy from finishing his term in office. What is that qualifies Mould to head GNPC in Ghana? Any clue that the $39million will not be used to defray Ibrahim Mahama's debt with Merchant bank of Ghana? Where were these guys in December 31, 1981 and mahama included? Was he then in Moscow? Think again NDC. You guys are creating conditions in Ghana for a revolution. We do not need it, but remember June 4th, 1979; it was spontaneous.

One of the greatest tragedies ever to befall any party is the destruction of our NDC by individuals who fled from the party when we went to opposition. Sadly, our beloved President Mills allowed them back in in the name of a so-called reconciliation forgetting that party loyalty cannot be bought with such lazy understanding of politics and national development.

As a group, the rank and file must look at the stupid and shameless faces of their nation wreckers and tell us whether they deserve to be in the positions they are occupying. They are thieves n Amani suits who must be exposed if we have to cement our social democratic principles. Principles, that emanate from the innocent blood of Ghanaians who died in the course of the revolution.

Meanwhile, our founding father is behaving as if nothing is happening and has softened his stand against these leaders. It is easy to discern that the person occupying the Presidency is not going by the name Evans Atta Mills.

What our founding father must realize is that if any thing happens to our democracy, he and his family will be siting ducks. It is therefore in his interest to rise up and speak the minds of millions and millions of our people who continue to cry for justice in the distribution of the national cake. June 4 AND December 31 do have real meaning in our lives.

Hi people,
When you read the article, it seems alarming. One thing must be clear. This is a budget proposal. It does not mean that authority has been given for the expenditure to be made. It is the job of those vetting it to identify these inconsistencies and ask for explanation or strike them out of the proposal. Instead of insulting leaders we must praise the committee for doing its work and actually reading the document and identifying areas of concern.

Parliament and other institutions will work better if all other committees do their work deligently and highlight similar concerns.

It is not inconcivable to rent office premises while building your own. It takes time to build and if you need a new place immediately, you might have to rent. The concern should be about whether GNPC really needs a new place or not and if renovation of their current office complex might not be a better option. If it is a case of office space not being enough, the issue of a new building close to the old one can be investigated as shared facilities will reduce cost. Why accra? That is another question. if it is decentralization, is Accra airport area the best location?

The journalist did a good job in publishing the information but the committee is only doing what it is formed to do. If we had the minutes of the group, we could have identified the contributions of all the people. Making it partisan is a concern as it may not give credit to other people from other parties (if any) who may have contributed to identifying the concern. Exposing stuff like this should be the norm and not the exception. Had other groups been vigilant, exposure of issues like this would have been common place and not constitute sensational news.

Let us thank the good workers and encourage their patriotism.

For example, DVLA main headquarters is at Swansea, Inland Revenue at Newcastle, UKBA at Croydon and Liverpool etc. For the live of me I do not know why we have Cocoa Clinic in Accra instead of towns like Goaso, or Sefwi Asawinso. Let us get away from our comfort zone in Accra and seek to move where the services are most needed.
