  The economic problems in the country is the result of an incompetent government. The competency of a leader is a reflection of the people who selected that leader. So it also showcases the incompetency of Ghanaians in general. My heart breaks anytime I read news about the Ghanaian economy.
  
  Creating an enabling environment to stimulate economic growth is the government's responsibility and the NDC have woefully failed at this. It is not such a difficult thing to do - just create policies that will stimulate entrepreneurship.
  
  Entrepreneurship is the surest way to sustainable, fast growth - not an abundance of natural resources which seem to be all Ghanaian leaders chase after. Look at a country like Israel, located in total desert-land, with no natural resources whatsoever and surrounded by enemies who want to annihilate it. Yet see how Israel has turned its adversities and disadvantages into tools with which it has grown its economy. The once dessert land is now a major exporter of fruits, vegetables and herbs. The country is now the innovation capital of the world, with more new high-tech start-ups than any other country in the world. It has the largest number of listed countries on the NASDA than any other country. Even Rwanda, which was once war-torn and desolate, now ranks higher than Ghana with regards to ease of doing business, all due to the government's commitment to creating an enabling environment. Surely, no once can say that Rwandan government officials are smarter than their Ghanaian counterparts. The difference, I daresay, boils down to the love for country and fellow countrymen.
  
  Why do our leaders make very simple things look so complicated? Leading a country and creating policies that will stimulate economic growth is not rocket science. It is even easier when you are leading a country that is blessed with abundant natural resources which are in effect windfall gains, easy money. Yet our leaders can't do a single thing right in the country.
  
  I have always said this and I will say it again and again. What Ghana needs is a leader who loves the country (and its people enough to want to die for it). That is the kind of leader we had in Kwame Nkrumah and have never gotten again since his death. We don't need an intelligent leader - Ghana is not difficult to lead and it does not take a rocket scientist to grow the country - we just need a self-sacrificing leader.
  
  I would vote any day for an illiterate who is able to convince me he has the country's best interests at heart and not his own self-seeking interests, than a selfish PhD rocket scientist. At least, the high-school dropout will appoint competent people who can help move the country forward, not incompetent corrupt fools like the current government has appointed.

  You raised quite a few point but still fell short of what's really impeding on Ghana's progress. History has shone that a leader's love for country alone is not enough to move a country like Ghana forward ( president Mills). Kwame Nkrumah was largely successful because not only did he have the love for Ghana but he thought through his vision, plan and execute. He also made sure his detractors are taken care of.Ghana like Nigeria is made up of people who are always and constantly looking for ways to cheat the system. So long as you have a people like this your only chance of success in governance is to draw out the sword. I don't see it any other way.

  jj and all these foolish criminal ndc politicians again are trying to create a diversion and throw smoke screens in our eyes on the issue of corruption . our corruption is a different kind especially when is rooted in some minority group or tribe making war against the Akans so undermine the economy to push the Akans further into poverty and make them again massively pick up the passports and leave . Starting from the days of Nkrumah every minority ethnic group comes to power with the mentality of my time has come '' we go chop Ghana money some '' and do everything to ensure this . nkrumah using the old strategy of divide and rule , pit brother against brother divided the fanti speaking people into 2 regions , rawlings came and used the same methods to pit part of the fantis and ashantis against each other and now pepeni is [laying the same game of northerners against southerners and all non Akans against the Akans . Billions have been approved in parliament in the past few years and the monies disappeared meanwhile they shove down our throats stories of 3,5 million and rumours of CIA basically accusing Akans again of corruption as diversions to the real truth of the looting of those hiding behind the ndc party . our problem in a nutshell is hegemony tribalism and chauvinism and the evil fruits are corruption , destruction of the economy and treacherous enmity between brothers . with out the unification of all the potentials and peoples of the land there can be no progress or development leading to industrialization and real meaning well paying jobs for our children no matter the natural resources . that is also the the problem of the Arab world who will forever remain trapped in a quasi feudal society , we Akans choose a different path and will most surely secede as there is no other alternative , long live the republic of Akan
