High rate of poverty? Nonsence. In the abundance of wealth the people are poor? Hold the leaders responsible. We have the natural resource (than most countries I have visited), we have the human resourses (graduates, artisans etc), we have abundant time. What else is missing in the economic properity equation? Management and leadership. If the leaders can't produce after all these years and the discovery of oil, we just have to kick them out. I'm in a country where besides the oil that they have, they have nothing compared to Ghana (b'cos it is desert) and yet the citizenry are given monthly remittances. What is the problem with Ghana in particular and Africa in general? Sometime I tend to agree with my dad who out of frustration indicated that he would have preferred the whiteman to have stayed in Ghana.
SHAME TO OUR SO CALLED LEADERS. THEY ARE FAILING US!!!!

The journalist who reported this story is a child. Barter trade has been practised within the Volta basin for ages.From Kutusu, Ekye Amanfrom, Adawso, Nketepa, Akateng, Dzemeni, Kwamekrom, Abotoase and all other markets along the Volta, there have been exchange of.goods and services without the use of money. Mostly, fish is exchanged with foodstuffs. The fishermen do not have time to farm, so they would prefer exchanging the fish they have with the foodstuff. I think if the report had consulted more people about the trade, he would have realized that it is not something new and it is not because there is no money in the system.
