Billions have been approved in parliament in the past few years and the monies disappeared meanwhile they shove down our throats stories of 3,5 million and rumours of CIA basically accusing Akans again of corruption as diversions to the real truth of the looting of those hiding behind the ndc party . our problem in a nutshell is hegemony tribalism and chauvinism and the evil fruits are corruption , destruction of the economy and treacherous enmity between brothers . with out the unification of all the potentials and peoples of the land there can be no progress or development leading to industrialization and real meaning well paying jobs for our children no matter the natural resources . that is also the the problem of the Arab world who will forever remain trapped in a quasi feudal society , we Akans choose a different path and will most surely secede as there is no other alternative , long live the republic of Akan

The truth about what is really going on in Mali and with AFRICOM and NATO countries, especially France is a little bit like a geopolitical “Victoria’s Secret”—what you think you see is definitely not what you will get.

We are being told repeatedly in recent months that something supposedly calling itself Al Qaeda—the organization officially charged by the US Government as responsible for pulverizing three towers of the World Trade Center and blowing a gaping hole in the side of the Pentagon on September 11, 2001—has regrouped.

According to the popular media account and statements of various NATO member country government officials, the original group of the late Osama bin Laden, holed up we are supposed to believe somewhere in the caves of Tora Bora in Afghanistan, has apparently adopted a modern business model and is handing out Al Qaeda official franchises in a style something like a ‘McDonalds of Terrorism,’ from Al Qaeda in Iraq to Libyan Islamic Fighting Group in Libya and now Al-Qaeda-in-the Islamic-Maghreb.

I’ve even heard reports that a new Al Qaeda “official” franchise has just been given, bizarre as it sounds, to something called DRCCAQ or Democratic Republic of Congo Christian (sic) Al Qaeda. [7] Now that’s a stretch which reminds one of an equally bizarre sect called Jews for Jesus created back in the hippie days of the Vietnam War era. Can it be that the architects of all these murky groups have so little imagination?

If we are to believe the official story, the group being blamed in Mali for most all the trouble is Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM for short). The murky AQIM itself is actually a product of several behind-the-scenes workings. Originally it was based in Algeria across the border from Mali and called itself the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC according to its French name).

In 2006 Al Qaeda’s head guru in absence of Osama bin Laden, Egyptian jihadist Ayman al-Zawahiri, publicly announced the granting to the Algerian GSPC the Al Qaeda franchise. The name was changed to Al-Qaeda-in-the Islamic-Mahgreb and Algerian counter-terror operations pushed them in the past two years over the desert border into northern Mali. AQIM reportedly is little more than a well-armed criminal band that gets its money from running South American cocaine from Africa into Europe, or from arms dealing and human trafficking. [8]

A year later, in 2007, the enterprising al-Zawahiri added another building block to his Al Qaeda chain of thugs when he officially announced the merger between the Libyan LIFG and al-Qaeda in the Islamic Mahgreb (AQIM).

The LIFG or Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, was formed by a Libyan-born jihadist named Abdelhakim Belhaj. Belhaj was trained by the CIA as part of the US-financed Mujahideen in Afghanistan during the 1980s alongside another CIA trainee then named Osama bin Laden. In essence, as the journalist Pepe Escobar notes, “for all practical purposes, since then, LIFG/AQIM have been one and the same – and Belhaj was/is its emir.” [9]

That becomes even more interesting when we find that Belhaj’s men – who, as Escobar writes, were at the forefront of a militia of Berbers from the mountains southwest of Tripoli, the so-called Tripoli Brigade—were trained in secret for two months by US Special Forces. [10]

LIFG played a key role in the US and French-backed toppling of Libya’s Qaddafi, turning Libya today into what one observer describes as the “world’s largest open air arms bazaar.” Those arms are reportedly flooding from Benghazi to Mali and other various hotspot targets of destabilization, including, according to what was suggested at the recent US Senate Foreign Relations testimony of outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, by the boatload from Libya to Turkey where they were being channeled into the various foreign terrorist insurgents sent into Syria to fuel the destruction of Syria. [11]

Now what does this unusual conglomerate globalized terror organization, LIFG-GPSC-AQIM intend in Mali and beyond, and how does that suit AFRICOM and French aims?

Unfortunately, when we talk about these things, we are branded anti Nana Addo. no serious party will win an election with sir John as a general secretary. we seem to wrongly believe that the EC robbed us in the last election. what we fail to also understand is that our own utterances like kennedy agyepong's infamous killing of ga and ewes, ursula owusu's foul mouth etc also led to our defeat. if we dont tackle these issues and think that Ec robbed us, we shall be in opposition for a very long long time. if Mahama had been in power for only five months and won an election, what will happen if he gets four years? lets be wise and stop demonising ourselves. the time to get united is now. this Attempt to make nana ado a thin God will backfire. lets creat a level playing field for all to contest. at the end of it all, the delegates will choose the best candidate.

Why would Apraku call for a change of leadership at all levels, apparently due to incompetence in winning elections, and then turn around to express the desire to contest the next election, when he has failed twice in winning any contest? Shouldn't that be automatic disqualification for him? It is this hypocrisy that has generated the incendiary comments, which apparently Kennedy fails to acknowledge. If NPP is on the verge of implosion, it will be due to the egos of these "academics within NPP, each of whom believes it's either themselves, or nobody else. President Kuffor and Kyeremateng refused to campaign for Akuffo-Ado, but Kyeremateng is now calling for unity since he intends to run again. Clearly, Akuffo-Addo will not endorse the "rubber-stamp" nomination NPP was using since he was the first to advocate that each candidate should be allowed to run on their own merit and let the electorate decide. It's now clear that NPP did not have appropriate mechanism in place outlining the steps to follow in choosing their candidates. BTW: Since both Kennedy and Apraku appear to be members of the NPP executive, wouldn't it have been more appropriate to have submitted their proposals for improvement internally first?

The leaders of the country have refused to see the problems of the country as they are but always try to see them in party colors.

So we continue to be at the same place without finding solutions to our problems. The 2 main political parties - NPP and NDC share the biggest blame for our situation.

To me he does not make SENSE and it is better for him to shut up since he is irrelevant to Ghanaians politics. You cannot emerge from the blue and be elected as President; this is something he should learn to appreciate. To me he has no constituency to pit his tent and just making noise. I think he should be ignored because whatever he says regarding NPP is not going to materialize. Instead of being modest and learn under those who have been in the trenches for a long time, he is jut making too much noise. Let him continue to cool off in North Carolina and forget about being a force to reckon with in Ghana politics. No one listens to him, so finally he should shut up.

As far as I know,Nana Addo has not made any statement to lead NPP in 2016 because he knows that he cannot win the general elections,not for the presidency or the parliamentary.A man who won 49.13% in the 2008 presidentail had only 47% in 2012.What this means is that his popularity has declined just like the parliamentary results.Besides,Nana Addo has been humiliated by the Supreme Court where his election petition was thrown like a piece of rubbish.NPP should look for a fresh candidate if they really want to win in 2016.I am sure Nana Addo cannot score even 45% in 2016 and he knows that very well.Thank you.

When Arthur Kennedy made his very strong arguments against election of a "leader" of the NPP party before the constituency and national executive elections, I was one of those who argued strongly against his views and I still do. In fact this article of his and the case he is making about Nana Akufo-Addo's failure to rein in the protagonists and bring 'his party' to order only goes to prove my point.

If you look around in established democracies, when a party loses a major election, one of the earliest issues they settle is the leadership of the party.

Often the leader who led the party to the defeat will out of respect for themselves and as a mark of true leadership and democracy, offer their resignation. Depending on circumstances and other factors, the party faithful may choose to allow the person to continue as leader, vut in most cases, they resign and a leadership election is called, to allow the new leader to build their own team and start preparing the party for the 'next fight'.

We know that in Ghana, that philosophy is completely non-existent as demonstrated in president Mills standing 3 times as presidential candidate (and being 3rd time lucky), and Nana Addo standing twice already, just like Kuffuor did before winning the presidency. Perhaps this historical fact is an incentive for these losing candidates, and somehow this is accepted by their parties as 'normal' and OK. I disagree.

The NPP was in complete disarray following their electoral defeat which 'internally' they knew was indeed the case. Joyfm called the election for the president even before the electoral commission's official declaration, based mainly on tallies of votes from the polling stations that were pouring in from their correspondents.

The conspiracy to take the fight for the elections to the Supreme Court was an unfortunate decision and a failure of leadership on the part of Nana Addo, and I rather suspect he was not the architect of that petition. I wait to be proved wrong when he finally writes his Memoirs which I believe will be interesting reading. My personal advice to him is to do just that - focus on writing his Memoirs which will provide a rich account of his life and politics as well as his service to the nation. To me that would be his lasting legacy. I happen to believe that Nana Addo will not be a vote winner for the NPP in 2016 were he to decide to stand, and if the NPP decided to elect him leader.

To me, he has failed in his leadership in the last 2 years when he has allowed uncouth, selfish, arrogant and self-seeking individuals to run his party, and inexperienced, daft and childish young people to forment a type of politics and language which has brought politics and politcal dialogue into some disrepute in Ghana.

He has also failed to step in when these chaps have overstepped the line, taken foolish decisions, even expelling some critics of their party, whilst allowing others who have done worse to go scott free. This is not a mark of leadership and only betrays Nana Addo as a weak leader. The fact is, some NPP supporters might not like what Arthur K has written and my comments here but that is simply the truth and sadly it is that, which the NATION and VOTERS see, and that which will influence especially 'floating' or 'independent' voters who are usually well educated, middle to upper class individuals who are likely to vote, and usually vote based on their convictions rather than any party affiliations per se.

I happen to agree with Arthur K's call for his party to do some instrospection, identify their own 'demons' and deal with them as a party, then re-group with a fresh and forward-looking and forward-thinking leadership which is more balanced and objective and which above all has 'self-discipline. The latter is currently lacking in the NPP and that is borne out by the insults, carricaturization and blatant and open fisticuffs currntly playing out before our very eyes. This does not look like, nor does it sound like a 'winning party' or one that has learned its lessons and is ready for the next fight- 2016. My prediction is that if they continue like this, I rather suspect that despite the current government's failures and the hardships Ghanaians are suffering, they will still lose the next elections - mark my words and don't say someone did not warn you.

I come back to my original argument - NPP should have settled 'the leadership question' once and for all and early, following what was clearly an electoral defeat they had not anticipated, given the circumstances leading to the polls. The 8 month Suprmeme court case was a 'welcome diversion' and in my view, a conveinent smokescreen for Nana Addo, even though he knew where the pendulum of justice was going to swing in the end. You cannot rely on 'blind faith' to win elections - you fight hard and dig in at the trenches, and prove your worth to the electorate. You do not rely on the courts to decide for you.

Having failed to get the nod from the court, I would have honourably resigned and retired from active politics if I were Nana. Again, I suspect he did not take his current decision of his own accord, but rather that it was 'forced upon him' by his many supporters, thereby worsening his burden. It was wrong of him to postpone the inevitable and in the process lose some neutral supporters.

The failure of the NPP leadership to persuade Nana to do the decent thing also confirms my impressions of a party which truly lacks leadership. The behaviours and actions of some of these same so-called national executives of the NPP prove that as a party, they are in the wrong place and need to seriously examine themselves.

Resorting to insulting the opposition and latching on to anything that spells the word "corruption" as your only solace in seeking the assent of what is gradually becoming a sophisticated Ghanaian electorate to the presidency and government is a rather dubious supposition in my view, and one which is by no means guaranteed despite the current government's difficulties. I believe that Ghanaians are looking for a credible, strong, decisive and honest alternative to the current government; an letrnative who are ready to LEAD their party into government with a clear set of sound and doable policies which people can believe in, and which can transform our rather shaky economy at the moment. Such an alternative should do away with its BAGGAGE and all the cubwebs where 'skeletons' may still be hiding and come clean on their 'sins' and promise to 'go away and sin no more'.

Ghanaians are waiting for an alternative they can believe in. I seriously doubt if the current NPP as composed and lead is that alternative. I stand to be proved wrong.
