You can not isolate the politics from the reality on the ground.The economist is a capitalist creation and ideologically aligned to IMF and western prescription to economics.We remember the the bitter IMF packages under the guise of structural adjustments and the havoc they wrought on our economy and the hardship to our people.These were all done in the interest of their economies and not the interest of Ghanians.We should not assume that because it is a foreign prescription it is neutral.We must always take it with a pinch of salt since their motive is always imperialistic and actuated by advantage.It did not matter that economic activities came to a standstill for nearly a year because of Akufo but rather chose to praise him for that.I wish I know the profile of the one who wrote the article to see whether he lived up to that profile or was influenced by his politics.

Nonetheless, the debate about Ghana's economy is necessary, useful and fascinating.

This time, we shall put corruption aside and concentrate on waste - waste in government expenditure.

There are at the last count 23 ministries in Ghana. These are departments of government headed by a minister. The minister will be assisted by deputies, and so on.

Some of the departments are very unnecessary, and duplicate the functions of others. For example, there is Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Tourism and the modernization of the Capital.

What is the work of the ministry of information. Is it advertising Ghana to the world, and promoting tourism?

We have the following ministries; Ministry of Road Transport, Ministry of works and housing, Ministry of manpower, Youth and Employment, Ministry of Environment and Science, and Ministry of Lands Forestry and Mines. Surely, Road Transport, environment, Lands and Forestry all have something in common.

Can we merge the work of some of these inter related ministries to save money, money we do not have. Is it necessary to have a ministry to modernize Accra, for example?

I could go on and on. Remember, it is not the existence of these departments per se, it is the Cost involved in running these ministries which is the problem.

In my humble opinion, there is too much waste of money and other resources like human. Merge some of these ministries to save money, and promote efficiency in government.

So many years of subscribing to it since I was in GRAD school, not much attention has been pay to Ghana. The fact is that it is reporting what it see, it is about time we as people pay attention. But how many MPs read the magazine or will read this article. There are many people who want to come home and invest, but with this climate, how do I as an investor get my ROI when everything is not going in my favor as an investor. ( Go to Economist.Com) If our MPs read such magazine it will help them shape the way countries are investing in their people. Let stop all that stupid corruption, using people against each other whiles they loot behind the close doors. Let get ride of all the old PNDC they have no vision, what did they do for 19 years in power. NOTHING. Ghana is sinking, and you out there talking about we NDC this, NPP that. Anyone who is serious about changing Ghana must read this report and act. The country tired of the cycle of the same people who take turns to come and loot. They have developed the mentality that nothing is going to happen to them and so the plundering goes on. Take JJ,PV Obeng and Tsikata as an examples, we might as well donate the country to them for their personal consumption. I know Mahama pays JJ under the table.
A real revolution in Ghana will not come until the 1992 constitution is thrown out of the window to curtail the senseless power and insulation of the president and his cronies. After all, those who put it in place are the architects and source of the current mood of the country. We must at least, make the effort to turn things around since we have failed to kill them. How long can we endure this since they won't go away and keep coming back for more of the destruction. They never say no so why should we sit back and watch them slowly send us to our graves prematurely. All we need is to BE BOLD
