But in country where we believed in corner-cutting,short cuts and miracles and magic from fake pastors, any fool who tricks us to expect more yield from GMO without hard work seems to be the new "darling pastor" and nothing is changing the minds of these lazy MPs that hard work with innovations on all fronts is what it gonna take to self sufficiency.

If someone targets your food with a stupid excuse that the new technology will result in food abundance, the end result will be unexplained diseases and whatnots. Why do you think we should forgo our organic food and accept this shit coming from Monsanto? Does it make sense to go someone and buy some seed before planting and why should we forgo our old method of farming where we store some seed for the next planting season?

At least, we should hold ourselves above this glaring monster storm that will sweep us into the Atlantic Ocean.

GMO is not a bad thing. Plant Breeding involves applying natural products/materials, not man-made materials or products, in the exciting field of genetic engineering which some folks think is dangerous and threatens the existence of humankind and the environment.

This misconception has been ongoing to the extent that traditional plant breeding is even considered in some quarters as dangerous. A recent demonstration against the Plant Breeders Bill in Ghana is a classical example of confusion among certain groups who need to get more educated about this old technology of "GENETIC ENGINEERING" or GMO as some people call it.

The green flurescent protein (gfp) discovery won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2008, deservingly and I used to apply gfp to engineer bacteria for the detection of food-borne pathogens...how cool, real cool.

The US has accepted GMO and I can say with certainty that that has resulted in unexplained surge in cancer in that country. Trust me, cancer is very common in the US and it is really baffling. If you live in the US, just take a closer look at bananas, mangoes, tomatoes, apples etc just to name a few. The fact that demand is outstripping supply does not mean that we some people should come out with something that will push us towards our grave. GMO foods and cancer are like body and hair.

Cancer is not a Western Country disease. Have you thought about the increased use of plastic bags/polythene bags and styrofoam containers in serving hot foods in Ghana in the heat?

its a pure capitalist ploy also as one become dependent on the GMO seeds only once you used them. Even then they may not grow after 3 years. I have tired them in my own backyard. Wasted money buying the seeds and even plants.

Breder's rights are aimed to promote plant breeding, an art that has been used by farmers for millennia and has been oimproved by scientists for the last decades. Plant breeding has adapted foreign crops like maize from Mexico, cassava and cocoa (Brazil) and sorghum (Ethiopia) to grow well in Ghana. So what is wrong with promoting plant breeding? So: stop parroting others; please think for yourself
