The question I have been asking for many years is now here! I could not believed when I was told I was going to be paid like a metric graduate(SSS student) after completing 4year teacher training with all passes. I was in South Africa in 2000 and got a job but that was what my HOD to me. In SA you do one year for certificate and 3years for diploma and 4years for Degree not like Ghana where you have to suffer for 4year and they award you with a common Certificate it's not fair. They must make it Degree so that young men and women may be attracted.

The course contents of 4-year cert. A teacher's training cannot qualify for a college degree of any sort. It seems Ghanaians like to take the short-cut to higher education qualification. In any case the GES proposal in this article is confusing and not helpful to Ghana.

It is time to arrange for all basic education teachers to have a basic first degree and be paid appropriately; Ghanaian school children can benefit more from better trained teachers.

I think that this is another dangerous decision in Ghana's educational system. We are having problems with teachers refusing to be posted to the numerous schools in the rural areas. The Cert "A" teachers were mainly the ones going there to teach the children. The efforts of the Cert "A" teachers is supplemented by untrained SSS graduates and National Servicemen/women. As a result, most schools in the rural areas lack teachers today.

Now they are phasing the Certificate "A" out and expect that Diploma and BSc/BA degree holders will go to the remote villages to work? I bet you the situation will get worse and those who are not fortunate and are born or are staying in the rural areas (the silent, hardworking but unrecognised many in Ghana) will be worse than before!

Leaders of Ghana and education policy makers in particular need not worsen things for the already-suffering majority in Ghana. This idea of upgrading teachers with better training (not mere change of paper qualification name - from 'Certificate' to 'Diploma') is definitely necessary and well-intentioned, but not to be implemented in such additional-problamatic way (as communicated in this article posted on this website).
Instead, better awareness creation followed by better-planned, systematic implementation of the transition from use of 'Certificate' to 'Diploma' level training (not just paper qualification) will do our dear country more good than harm.

An effective school to a large extent depend on good administration. In this respect it is best to rather assess all headteachers for licencing. Many of them really dont care about student welbeing.All they are interested in is extorting monies from teachers and students for some unreasonable reasons such as forceful payment of GH5.0 per teacher to send off assistant director who is already earning much higher salary, and contributes to ssnit, or to a director who has been reposted. Does this really make sense?

It is long overdue. I wondered what the nonsense in Ghana was all about. For all those who went through the Post-Sec system, after 5 years in a Secondary School, plus 3 years in a post-secondary institution, with all the hard work in between, at the end you are given a certificate, to certify what.

The Ministry of Education should do what is right by replacing the certificate As by Diplomas in Education for everybody, especially those who went through the Post-Sec system

Even the form we bought was a diploma form but at the end of the cause we were given cert. A. I think the cert. A teachers should be given diploma automatically or do a week 's cause for them and award them the diploma. At least to compensate the old ones who can no longer go to school. One thing you must know is that some cert A teachers are even better than the current diplomates. Are you going to sack the cert.A teachers or what? Remember there are lot of schools without teachers. Please do something better for the cert.A teachers. Thanks
