The Police in the US and Germany don't live in Barracks.
The govt. has nothing but wants to do everything for everybody.

Allow private Developers build residential units to be rented to every qualified individual.
This will create jobs and boost the Economy.

Ghana is a nation that live beyond its means. Can you imagine that can be saved by eliminating all these free amenities. Let them rent they're own housing. No country provide free accommodations for their government workers.

The Military and security services are housed in common places or barracks for a purpose; that is to quickly assemble them in times of emergency. Here the government must provide the necessary amenities to make them comfortable. And who told you they occupy those places free of charge? Check their payrolls and you will be shocked to see the amount deducted at source in the guise of tax to cover these amenities including rent. Please leave the security services out of your dirty politics.

The idea of government providing free to nominal fee/rent accomodation to security officers throughout Ghana is a poor proposition, security and economic wise.
Throughout the Western world, government provide only office accomodation to security service personnel, and not residential, barracks type of accomodation that exist in developing countries. Besides cost to the tax payer, security personnel secure thier localities better if they live with the rest of the population. They become the populations' first order of security and defense if they live with them. Crimes are easily solved because they are living witnesses to them, and may not need the help of the civilian population to provide or volunteer information or tips to solve criminal justice problems. Apart from this, security service personnel also contribute effectively in the housing industry, which is every nations economic beef. One of the reasons that account for the higher armed robbery offences in Ghana, comes from this situation. Police officers and other security staff members in the country have been segregated from the population through the barracks provided free accomodation, hence there is no one on the streets, first hand, to fight this type of crimes. If I have my own way, all these service contracts providing free barracks residential accomodation to the security service sector will be abolished. Immigration Service of Ghana must not ask to be provided this monster free bee. They must pay, and live with other citizens. After all, what make the Immigration Officer different from the Teacher in the classroom? I will urge the government to abolish the barracks type of accomodation forthwith. Most if not all security personel have cell phones and private cars today in Ghana, and can be moblized easily for any emergency situation.

Government cannot pretend to want to fight corruption when it fails to provide for its men in uniform. If it is true that:

Head of Public Affairs of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Francis Palmdeti told The Finder the service has raised the matter with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to consider the provision of accommodation as part of condition of service.

Then corruption will never end. How do you expect people to survive when you put them under such conditions? In order for corruption to be eradicated, all conditions need to be put together including ensuring that law enforcement officers have basic needs taken care of as well as putting in the measures to mitigate against corruption.

We can't possibly ask people to perform when they have no where to lay their heads, or some perch with friends, or whole family of senior officer (his wife and children) are asked to share a two bedroom flat with another family… this is dehumanizing!!! and what do we expect?

That is what Educated Civilised People do in Germany , USA etc.
