  Kenya-based BBC broadcast journalist Anne Waithera has died, aged 39, in a Nairobi hospital.
  
  She had been battling cancer for the past two years.
  
  Described as among the most talented Kenyan journalists of her time, she joined the BBC in 2009 after many years with local TV and radio stations.
  
  She was the first BBC bilingual - English and Swahili - reporter to be appointed to the Ethiopia capital, Addis Ababa.
  
  Her death comes less than a fortnight after that of another celebrated BBC journalist, Komla Dumor from Ghana, in London.
  
  A minute's silence was observed by BBC Africa staff in Nairobi, London, Dakar and Abuja.
  
  BBC Africa editor Solomon Mugera described her as "a brave, well-organised and talented journalist".
  
  BBC international bureaux manager Razvan Scortea added: "I am very saddened by this. Anne was a lovely person, bright, gentle and positive, and she fought so hard. God bless her."

Is it right for our education to be in such a sad state, no chalk, no money for feeding, no eradication of schools under trees, no 50 SHS's in 2013, nothing.

  Every single one of you pretending to be so objective are as crooked and irresponsible as those politicians you so love to lambaste. I have walked the streets of Accra, and encountered and interacted with the abject poor, the middle class, the upper middle and even the so called wealthy. Nobody has any commonsense in Accra, Ghana. Nobody has any morals, nobody has any character, charisma or moral aptitude.
  We are genetically wired to behave like lower human species. Of course, we act like we have been coached and trained by superior beings only for short periods of emulating their advanced behaviors.
  
  Small business owners never want to pay their employees a living wage, yet they expect government to provide them with all manners of amenities. They do not want to pay taxes either. The lazy poor will encroach on private property and sidewalks use logs and free combustibles to make good money, yet out of the same greed and selfishness imbued in our politicians, they will never want to pay a pesewa in taxes, they complain from sun up till sundown. The totally irresponsible ministry and civil servants take life for granted and will never perform their duties diligently. Matter of fact if you enter the reception area of any ministry or office, the fat slob called receptionist or secretary, will gladly finish listening to the ongoing TV episode in that ignorant and obnoxious Twi language before they pay you any attention. If and when you queue anywhere in Accra, be sure to have one ugly stinking person force their way in front of you, to engage the equally ignorant attendant at the counter. Ghana is a failed society, and I am so appalled I simple hate myself for being a native of Ghana. But I still cherish my nativity, never my citizenship.
