Wasn't that dull vice-president who said last year that depreciation of the cedi was good for Ghana? He is just doing that.

What can we expect? John Mahama did not finish his apprenticeship under utter incompetent Atta Mess before he was rushed to the job. Amissah Arthur is only good at devaluing the cedi. Even the US Chairman of the Federal Reserve cannot command the cedi from falling. At best, he can flood the Ghanaian financial market with more dollars in the short-term. In the long term the solution lies with Ghana. The government realigning the economy to produce more at home and for Ghanaians to consume what they produce instead of everything being imported. Improvement in the energy sector because without sufficient and sustainable supply of energy, productivity would fall. More of the foreign companies retaining a larger percentage of their profit in Ghana, as well as the government reducing the huge budget deficit, etc.

Kofi, this government has a weak economic team. They always do half measures to halt the decline of the cedi. The government two days ago said it is going to flood the market with 20 million dollars which is not enough to stop the falling of the cedi.

What the government should do is to attack this problem from three points.

1. Pump at least $50 million dollars into the economy through commercial banks.

2. There are too many cedis in the economy so the government should reduce the cedi circulating by buying back some of the cedi by selling government bonds.

3. Government should temporary ban the importation of non essential goods like turkey tail, chicken, etc.

I will add a fourth one.

The "dollarization" of the economy should be stopped. Pricing of goods and services should be criminalized. All goods and services should be priced in cedis.

Even if the importation of turkey tail, chicken, imported rice from or through neighbouring countries, wax prints from China that is killing the local textile industry are banned, the policy will be reversed after representatives of their trade associations go to see President Mahama at Flagstaff House.

I also do not understand why some goods and services are priced in US dollars in Ghana and it's allowed. It's probably because the government is weak in addition to the indiscipline and the inability or unwillingness of those in authority to enforce the law in Ghana.

Then, someone claims he can command the cedi from falling against the dollar. What a joke? Is this the gateway to Africa or West Africa?

Their members can even boast they can make millions of dollars being deputy ministers and the government sees nothing wrong with it. They do not accept advice even if it is constructive, calling those who gives such advices as enemies of the state. They even do not accept that they are ripping this nation off by offering hugh amounts of money to themselves in the form of judgement debts. Going overseas to take care of themselves when they are sick and leaves the poor to die. Doctors, nurses and are not Depriving the , university dons, etc are not paid for months but they pay themselves every month. Not sensitive to the plight of the people. Korle Bu hospital, the largest in the nation has no blood reserves for patients, does this government cares? Denying the people of even basic necessities of life like water, electricity, health care, etc. People are dying in the north because of avoidable diseases and it takes some one from United States to go to the north to save lives. The funny thing is that every four years, they will still go to these people to ask for their votes and dump them afterwards. Their sins against this nation is too numerous to count and not until NDC government realizes these evil atrocities they are meting out its own citizens, no amount of "Thus says the Lord" will save this nation. They, NDC needs to call for a month of fasting and prayers and CONFESS and ask God for FORGIVENESS no amount of it will save this nation.

importation of any product that can be produced locally and the more we petronise our local products the more the producers would improve upon quality.

If we would be honest enough to cast our minds back to the latter part of the 90's and the early part of the 2000's, it becomes very clear, exactly the kind of competencies the NDC party as a gov't brings to the table, with respect to prudent management of the economy. Ghana went HIPC after the assumption of office of the NPP, and we need to ask ourselves which party and individuals were in power then, what actions did they take to send us into HIPC, and after analyzing these concerns critically, it would bring clarity to where we are and why we are here. History and economic history has shown and proven that, the NDC party takes a soaring economy and sends it crashing hurriedly to earth with their mismanagement, corruption and ineptitude ably supported by the forces of gravity sometimes greater than the G-force itself, with very, very colossal consequences. The gear we are not sure if it has been shifted, but the current situation clearly evidences the prognosis of what happens when the NDC party takes over gov't, it becomes abyss bound. Our clergy should do well to educate their congregation to be bold and get rid of the NDC gov't, which is clearly clueless and get a serious team to take over, because when it sinks, it's bad for everybody. The NDC party needs about 3 decades to sharpen their skills and so our clergy should lead the fight to get them to take the needed bow, go back and do their homework well, sharpen their skills and come back. That is the only way, Ghana can progress. It's the bitter truth but it needs to be said, because this is clearly not working, it's pathetic. What even makes it absurd is the new interpretation Amaliba has given to the depreciation. I can bet my last pesewa, that even the caveman would find his model of economic depreciation of the cedi not fit for anywhere on this planet. It is stupendously incongruous and outrageously incomprehensible, and these are the characters in gov't. C'mon, we need to get serious as a nation.

government must encourage local enterprise,ie, manufacturing etc.and discourage excessive importation of good that could otherwise be produced locally... for example rice,frozen chicken and others, these are some of the things that needed to change.
