What the country needs are sound economic policies rooted in sound workable political environment in the hands of competent managers. We can pray until hell freezes over, it is not going to save us nor the cedi with John Mahama and Amissah-Arthur in charge. Wasn't that dull vice-president who said last year that depreciation of the cedi was good for Ghana? He is just doing that.

What can we expect? John Mahama did not finish his apprenticeship under utter incompetent Atta Mess before he was rushed to the job. Amissah Arthur is only good at devaluing the cedi. Mahama with his poor education can only seek and expect miracles from crook pastors like Duncan Williams and TB Joshua.The worst is yet to come with these mediocrities in charge. Miracles my ass.

The way things are going, we are going to have two stark choices and it is going to be a swim or sink scenarios. We live in a country where state power is used to discretely punish and undermine the political economy of perceived "against areas". In the case of the NDC, this is Ashanti and Akyem areas. Roads and bridges that serve as major arteries to the bigger Ghanaian economy has been abandoned to rot. Besides that this NDC government lacks the prerequisite vision to help local industries to add value to their products. We almost export everything in their natural form with no value added. In turn we almost import everything we consume. The population is exploding but the economy is not vibrant, it is not creating jobs and all we hear from this useless government and their rented press is propaganda and insults. The economy has become dollarized because of the high demand for the dollar to import massive amount of finished or manufactured goods.

What we are going to be compelled to do very soon is simple: a) ditch the cedi and adopt the dollar as our main currency or b) institute measures to protect and promote local businesses to produce a lot of the things we import whilst restricting access to our markets by foreign competitors.

The second alternative is the way to go, but it should be for a few years, just to get the local businesses the chance to stand on their feet and develop muscles to face outside competition, lest they subject us to a long period of inferior goods. Anybody home,I doubt it. John Mahama even doesn't like spending Christmas in Ghana. We have lost the match before it even begins.

No surprise that we have hit rock bottom so now we need divine intervention to salvage our economy. As far as I recall from the bible,God wanted us to manage the good resources he gave to man. Some of the methods was to imbue leaders with wisdom to lead the Isrealites. When leaders were bad he deposed them. Luckily now we have democracy which allows the majority yo decide the fate of governments. Ghanaians have to take a cold dispasssionate look at what is currently happening to our economy and the pervasive hardship we all face(well except a few) and think of the alternative . Prayer is great but I doubt that in this instance it is a panancea for our woes.have a good day

Under the thoroughly useless and incompetent Rawlings administration the cedi plunged several hundred fold due to hyperinflation. During those dreadful days ordinary Ghanaians,teachers,nurses even doctors saw their salaries nose dive to almost nothing.A teacher's wages at the of times only fed a family of 4 for exactly 3 days. Teachers and university lecturers abandoned their classrooms to drive taxis in order to earn enough to feed their families one decent meal a day.Those who had skills in demand abroad such as teachers, nurses and doctors etc etc fled abroad.Who can forget the deserted classrooms and doctors consulting rooms? It beggars belief when you here Rawlings now crowing about his "achievements" (unless of course he is referring to his great success in ruining the Ghanaian economy for nearly 20 years). The truth is that if Ghanaians pulled through during those dreadful times they did so in spite of Rawlings not because of him. TODAY, AN UNREPENTANT RAWLINGS STANDS ACCUSED OF GRAVE ECONOMIC CRIMES AGAINST THE STATE OF GHANA IN ADDITION TO ALL HIS OTHER TERRIBLE MISDEEDS AGAINST GHANAIANS.

More exports is not the only way to stabilize the cedi. Another important way to stabilize the cedi is to reduce the profits of foreign businesses operating within the country like the cell phone companies and the foreign banks. If their profits are reduced then the demand for foreign currencies would reduce. Foreign businesses like banks have their shareholders outside Ghana. Therefore whatever profit they make would have to be transferred to them. In other to do this they buy and transfer large volumes of foreign currency to them. This is another important way to stabilize the cedi.

As a financial and Investment analyst, I beg to differ that, Economic issue like cedi depreciation to be tackled by spiritual intervention.

Causes of the Cedi Depreciation are:
1. Capital Flight: More cedi converted to purchase finished goods at the International market like USA.

2. Manufacturing Industry suffering: More reliance on foreign goods to sideline indigenous manufacturers, also raw materials in the country being comparatively higher than from outside.Major cause of the depreciation.

3. Unfavourable balance on trade: Expenditure exceeding Income, also reliance continuously on borrowing leading to excessive or higher interest which are repaid in Dollars.

4. Demand exceeding Supply: Despising our Cedi to the extent of demanding Dollars in fees payments at schools, hotels, restaurants, foreign trade, among others.

All these we think its spiritual? Monetary and fiscal policies should be put in place to cartel the situation!

What a shame for us as Ghanaians and Christians as well.

The only way our cedi could gain some strength is for govt. to allow the private business sector which is the engine room of our economy to grow by and boost expost also. This is one of the many ways NDC govt. could help our cedi gain some strength or be stabilized. John Mahama is a poor driver; the YUTONG BUS is too big and complex for him to drive. I hear that he doesn't even have a valid drivers' license.

Are these people serious? There is a biblical literarist and minister of state making a mockery of fundamental global monetary policy.Or,is it their belief that the populace is so gullible they would believe and trust anything they hear?

The powers that be in Pan African's hope of a shinning star got to be careful and not look down their noses at the populace-they are not all ignorant, belief in voodoo noneheless- because they still have an abidding faith in a solid and stable country as evidenced by their participatory democracy in comments on the web.
