Prof Martey should have been priestly enough to make it clear that this practice has not just started. It all started when Kufuor became president. Notable pioneers of this practice include Hawa Yakubu, Kwamena Bartels, Asamoah Boateng, many deputy ministers and presidential staffers. It may have gotten worse now but for a whole priest to show this level of dishonestly by making it look like it just started under JM is sad. If even our priests, (just imagine: this is the Moderator of the Presby Church!) cannot be honest what do you expect from the rest of society?

The fact is that this could not happen under JJ!!!!

Which part of the article suggests that the moderator makes it look like it just started? With all due respect, I think that these efforts at politicizing the views of well-meaning Ghanaians must stop. I have listened to the views of the Presby Moderator on various thorny issues like this one. For example, he vehemently criticized the purchase of the government bungalow by Jake Obetsebi Lamptey. So where does he belong? The issue is whether what he is saying is a reality or not, and whether it is right that people are elected into political office and they spend part of the time on academic pursuits. Can this happen anywhere, except Ghana? That is what our attention should focus.

We must all commend the Man of God for drawing our attention to this evil practice. This practice is amounts to plainly stealing our time to get their masters degrees and law qualifications. Virtually all the MPs, even those who came to parliament with MSLC and poor GCE O/L now have Masters degrees, mainly from GIMPA. Similarly, all ministers and their deputies have earned their masters degrees and law certificates while serving as full time workers. Is there any wonder things are going that bad? Certainly the work is now a nuisance to their primary target: education.

GIMPA started this evil practice. Now even DCEs take time off to come on courses. And nothing jolts their conscience that they are cheating: using public time, driving official vehicles to lectures etc! Has our morality degenerated to this low level?

We must all thank the Rev. for coming out. But would he have said anything if it was Kufuor in power? He is only talking now because he figures out it will hurt NDC politically. Rt. Rev. Prof. Martey is the most politically biased pastor in Ghana, perhaps second only to Rev. Owusu Bempa.

The ministers and MPs required one week orientation before Parliament convened. they would thereafter be guided by the Ministerial/parliamentary Handbook. No wonder we are in this mess. What does this have to do with politics? I strongly agree with the Moderator that certain levels of responsibilities are not part-time jobs and if we all think a ministerial position is one of those then let's make our voice heard by those responsible for making those appointments, period!

Minister visiting schools, is their job to go round as many schools he can and see the need and wants of the school.
Blaming is not part of the Christians religion and I dont expert to hear a mam who call himself man of god blame anybody.
The rev fathers are not preaching god anymore all they do is talk politics. They are not politicians and shouldnt talk about things they dont know.
Ghanaians needs solutions to our economic mess not what caused the mess. If these christ brothers really know how to fit the economy and let us go thru this hardship and suffering, we should never call them men of god.
How can anybody who knows a solution to a
problem wait till people are dying. If this man of god knew how to solve the country problems and do thing about it, ghanaians should see the type of people we are dealing with in ghana. They are the people who wants to divide ghana, the people who wants to turn into politics.

In a country where there are no standards of acceptable managerial performance everything goes. MAHAMA and his team are all learning on the job, they lack real practical experience. MAHAMA's only practical experience was at the Japanese embassy as a clerk/officer, no managerial experience, now he is "president".
If there are standards of performance most of these student MPs wouldn't have been even fit to secure the job in the first place. But that is the calibre of people the MAHAMA-led NDC has. Even the party's founder rose through using Ghana to gain experience and in the end after almost 20 years he ruled we saw only mediocre performance. All the problems JJ Rawlings claimed to be solving are now worsened by his party of nonentities.

Why do you want to be a president at any cost, when you know you have not even learned how to wipe your bottom after defecating-you are a disgraceful and shameful to your tribesmen and the northerners. There are a lot of people in the country who are aware of the damage the political parties have done, and for fear of being killed by the assassins of the parties-especially the NDC assassins, they just say or do nothing about the situation we are in. And doing nothing or saying nothing is not the option. Recruiting students and making them ministers and MPs, was the idea of the zombic Atta Mills-the benevolent Robin Hood. Where in this world can you find students as state ministers,- majority of the students were unemployed and were struggling to pay the student loans. They are poor young people-one of this young people is on record of saying,she wants to make make a 'cool $1ml. (one million dollars) before she leaves office. Here is college trained illiterate who has no clue about governance. To this village girl, being in government is to make as much money as you can. That is the attitude-if you can beat them, then join them,-welcome to the club. From the president to the janitor, every one in the government is stealing. We as the people must not be afraid of those we sent to parliament-they, the parliamentarians must be afraid of us. The power they have is ours. The arrogant and the ignorant politicians in the country must take note of this. School boys do not run a country,- not even in the Kalahari desert,-except in Rawlings's NDC Ghana. In the USA, there is official break during which times usually 3 months for Secretaries ( Ministers in Ghana), go to the Universities where academic professors school them on very critical "national interest" issues, such as security, economics and foreign policies. This is with the blessing of the Govt, with no adverse effects on the country. This helps to enrich the next sessions of congress and other govt institutions. In Ghana, the MPs and Ministers after a few years become rich and buy "degrees" from willing Universities to enrich their CVs for better future appointments and board memberships. Any minister or MP who wants to further his education must take a leave of absence as happens in all other institutions like the and departments in the country. MPs and ministers cannot suck the blood of the nation in this manner. Maybe, one of the qualifications for MP and ministers is a masters degree, or an undertaking that once elected or appointed the incumbent would not use official time for private schooling.

I do not think that it is wrong to further your education if you have the desire, your position should not kill your dream instead it should propel you. Prof., I am sure that if parliamentarians could get into educational programs which would make it possible for them to take classes during their off duty hours or during weekends, those who want to do that should be encouraged since they are leaders of their constituents. If these leaders are not doing anything illegal we should encourage them and support them with our prayers. Children look up to good leaders in society. Ghana needs well educated leaders to lead the nation into the future.

I agree totally with the Reverend Minister on the question of school boys and girls holding very high government positions. Seminars, Working Groups, Meetings, Brainstorming, both at home and even abroad, yes, but for important government officials to be constantly away from office for alleged studies is inconceivable. May we know what was on their CVs and what therefore motivated their selection and appointment in the first place? The Church cannot sit down idle and unconcerned about these paradoxes and anomalies, and the Rt. Reverend Martey has done well to alert the Government on the unacceptable.
