With training, these Kayayei could graduate as soon as possible to generate income to further their education if they so wish. This would be more sustainable because the route of formal education is too long and there is even no job for a lot of school graduands. I don't blame Atuguba because he is one of those useless university graduates who don't even know the difference between training and education. It is abundantly clear from the comments generated in response to Atuguba's plea for social justice that there are still millions of illiterate southerners who will always distort the historical rationale behind the free education scheme initiated by the British colonialists.....they desperately want to rewrite history, but each time, their pathetic efforts fail miserably.....you see, their reasoning and logic if they have any at all are clouded and fogged by unbridled prejudice against anything northern....listen up, stupid southerners, the northern regions of West Africa were deliberately neglected by the colonial masters who realized much to their dismay that if they did not do something concrete and practical to blur the lines between the northern regions and the southern regions the potential for implosion was real.......Atuguba's stand on female porters is the moral just thing to do...and don't forget it is an NGO that has put in motion this program to educate these young girls.....it is not a government initiative....successive governments have woefully failed to provide solutions to this problem which from afar seem intractable but in reality can be uprooted with full financial and moral commitment....from authorities...So, my southern brethren, remember one important fact; historical wrongs don't take a generation to make right...they do indeed take centuries to rectify....so get on board with the program or forever shut your boisterous mouths......

It sounds like the norherners are imporverised due to illitracy.It is totally wrong in that they have huge privilege over the rest of other ethnic groups in Ghana due to the free education Dr. Kwame Nkrumah gave them to encourage them to go to school. The Bridgewater Project should rather help them to secure jobs not education because majority of these kayayei irrespective of where they migrated from have gotten formal education and surprisingly a considerable number of them are mothers therefore putting them in school will defeat their very purpose of doing kayayei. They need money to survive and remember those who really want to further their education might still be in school or have graduated and still not gotten job. The bottom line is poverty which needs to be addressed seriously.
