And who are those too quick and eager to 'dump' on the govt for all the hardships we are experiencing in the country? None other than these ego-driven bunch that has benefited immensely from the sweat of farmers and petty-traders of this country!
"[C]harming courtesies in dialogue,compromise, and respect for the rule of law" does not mean quasi- autonomous state institutions like the UG,of all places,can take unilateral decisions with serious adverse reprecussion for the bona fide authority vested with setting expenditure priorities in this country;and that is the govt-in-council(the Cabinet}! Honestly, I think the authorities at Legon stands accused for autocratically erecting a barrier to charge tolls thinking that they can extend their autocratic tendencies at the lecture theaters to the public space.

You got it wrong, Legon, admit it and suck your thumb.

The national security should not only stop at dismantling the barrier,but rather also charge who ever gave the go ahead for the barrier's construction for illegally extorting money from motorists. Shame on you Legon!!!

I also blame the authorities of UG more. In taking such important decisions, the authorities there should not be an Island unto itself and take decisions without consulting all stakeholders. The SRC vehemently opposed this imposition but the Powers that be ignored them. Many well meaning Ghanaians spoke against it but all seem to have fallen on deaf ears. To those who think and argue that the case was before the courts, why then did the UG authorities not wait for the adjudication of the case before they started collecting the tolls? Is there any law that is followed in the country?
I blame the Big people in government for not acting immediately to resolve this before it came to this.

This so called Professors always want to be heard like they are much concerned about Ghana. In reality they are bunch of hypocrates. If the location of the toll both will cause traffic jam, then the national security guys have to do their work by removing it from there.

In this regard it will be sad to read the hypocracy of the Prof Yankah who thought he could score points from the reactions of the weak public when it comes to awareness.

The security should take care of any illegal structure that may cause confusion with the human/vehicle traffic, and make sure chances are not given any more for illegal structures to stand as we have many in the nation already, causing a lot of hinderances to our development.

For starters Prof Yankah, was it law abiding when Legon officials knowingly built a toll both on a thoroughfare that serves both public and semi-government entity like Legon in the hopes of collecting fees that had not been preapproved by Ghana's legislators? And if for a minute the management at Legon had any brains left they would allowed the process to get to finality before putting up toll structures; they did not. Now you tell me, Prof Yankah, if so-called educated people of your kind refused to allow the law to work its way then why would it be any more militaristic someone acting in the interest of some of Ghana's public also takes action to tear down the toll structures without legal preapproval?
You see, Prof Yankah, it is this shameless and hypocritical stance by those of you claiming to be Ghana's intellectual elite that has and continues to destroy Ghana. You and your educated kind believe you are authoritarians in your classroom without recourse of consequence and thus can run rough shots. How does this matter fall under the jurisdiction of the national security outfit and under what authority have they demolished the structure?

Obviuosly the university was within its right to build this structure on its land. I am also assuming that they had the requisite permit from the local government to do so, and even if they did not, then it should be a matter for the local government to deal with and not "national security".

The University of Ghana should sue the ass off this caricature and his security outfit. This is when we need the professors in the law faculty to show their stuff.

It is strange that it is now that the country has woken up to this realization and menace of lawlessness, impunity, recklessness, indiscipline and the total lack of respect and disregard for the absolute rule of law and the constitution of the republic, by the NDC party and gov't.
The NDC gov't cannot develop the country and cannot govern. The NDC gov't shirked it's responsibility in addressing the bad road network of UG, a public educational institution, and instead of dialoguing to find a roadmap to meet the financial obligation the institution took on, to meet the gov't's responsibility, it's resorting to buga buga, y3n t3 gya3, military force and adventurism to address a matter which can be solved purely by dialogue and serious commitment on the part of both parties to meet their respective obligations. As it is, the NDC gov't has lost absolute confidence and trust and goodwill amongst all right thinking and well meaning Ghanaians, judging from their track record. The country is now sinking into the law and might of the jungle, classic symptoms of a failed state and a banana republic. The failure across board with our finances, energy, economy, health, agriculture, unemployment, etc, etc, are all symptoms of failed leadership and the results are there for all to see. The country is now effectively on auto-pilot with a clear lack of leadership, the markings of a coconut republic.

If as a country we do not collectively condemn National Security for this unconstitutional and unlawful action, the next time it could be your house, your business, your place of employment, or an injustice that will directly affect you. It is then that you will go running and screaming about how a government entity has wronged you. What National Security did is not legal. But Ghanaians are too stupid to see the wrongdoing in it. The lack of due process followed. You mean National Security can arbitrarily decide to tear down structures without a court order? We don't live in a jungle. Demolishing that structure, WITHOUT HURTING ANYONE, in the process was acrrying out government's wishes. Govt & parliament were against the serction of the illegal toll booth. National Security, the enforcer of court edicts, did their job.
