Nkrumah built a huge Gold refinery at Tarkwa, which was abandoned after 1966, Rubber/Tyre Factories were all abandoned. The only sensible leader we ever had was Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who gave us an oil refinery when we did not have crude oil. The rest all came without vision to mitigate their poverty through looting.

It's common sense that exporting raw materials cannot make Ghana rich. That has been the case for decades but it beggars belief that Ghana has had a refinery for decades but when she becomes oil producer the crude oil is exported. Apart from the cost of export being higher than refined products we are also losing all the revenue from value added and the the jobs that could have been created by refining the crude oil.

I sometimes wonder how Ghanaian politicians make such decision. They are deceived to believe that because Ghana's oil is new, it should be exported to gain acceptance and name on the world market. What a Kwaku Ananse or child story? Yet, Ghanaian politicians have accepted it, instead of spending money on Tema Oil Refinery to make it possible to refine Ghana's crude oil.

Even the natural gas that is 100% for Ghana is still flared after 4 years of oil production. That should have the Mills's administration top priority when it assumed office in January 2009. They spend over two years fighting over which country should develop the gas infrastructure in Ghana whilst there were gas shortages in Ghana. If Ghana had only 10% with the 90% going to foreign investors, the gas infrastructure development would have been ready from day one of the fist barrel of crude oil production. Sad, isn't it?

Man,you are right in some sense.I agree perfectly with your last paragragh but what you need to remember also is that Ghana does not own the Jubilee oil until the contract expiration.Even the 10% you mentioned is a royalty.In the contract its clearly stated that our 10% is a carried interest, this is so because at the time of lease of the oil field to Kosmos, the government didn't want to risk any of Ghana's money into the project though it was agreed that they will be partners.This is understandable.Now that the oil has been discovered, all we can expected is our royalty/special tax levies and income tax which are the revenues Government is entitled to.What the other partners does with their share of the oil(90%) is up to them.There is no clause in the contract that states that Ghana can buy all the remaining 90% of the oil from the Jubilee partners,hence they can choose to sell the oil to whoever they want to sell the oil to.Trust me am being very factual with you.Its not about wanting a name for the oil.The oil from Jubilee was recognized from the very day it was discovered to be sweet crude after empirical tests confirmations.

The truth of the matter is that the Tema Oil Refinery is so old and the technology so outdated that we should have built a completely new one decades ago. Unfortunately, our technically challenged politicians think they know it all. Uganda did not even have a national oil company at the time oil discovery was made there. However, by learning from various countries, they were able to link the development of the new discovery with a modern refinery on a BOT basis.

In the case of Ghana, the gas was going to be given to us virtually free, but incoming Wofa Atta believed that everything that had been done was corruptly done so even the gas power plant that was going to be ready in about 12 months had to be renegotiated. Five years on and Kofi Buah continues to re-schedule its commission!

The curse of Ghana is simply clueless, incompetent and greedy leadersship!

Yes, Tullow, Kosmos, Anadarko, Sabre Oil & Gas made it their goal to allow the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to access the associated gas free of charge for the benefit of Mama Ghana. No economic theory will be able to save the country Ghana when there is no production of basic materials which require Basic Science.Basic Science here refers to the root science of production,like chemistry, biology,physics and the others.We need to begin to reconsider our educational system and apply some common sense.But above all Ghanaians lack divine knowledge that is necessary for transformation of societies.Until we stop talking and begin to think we will never go anywhere.

Its bad when people who do not know much about oil/gas business talks about it.Most people do not know that Ghana does not own the oil and gas.The 10% you are talking off is only a carried interest which implies Ghana actually never made any financial commitment towards the discovery,exploration and production of the jubilee field even though Ghana was a partner in all the activities.The 10% is our royalty,which implies our share incase things go well with all the activities I mentioned above.Its interesting people keep mentioning the EO group.Why was the government not able to prosecute them incase they did something wrong? The NDC government then didn't understand the oil business but they do now,that is the reason why the case died out.People need to understand issues before they make comments in order not to misinform people.Until we have the means to handle and process the Jubilee crude oil,the government can't even buy our own 10% for refining.The contract agreement for the Jubilee Partners is not a service agreement hence we can't even force them to sell the remaining 90% of their share to Ghana if they have their own customer they will want to sell to.Lets stop misinforming people on issues we are not much abreast with.

Otabil was not objective enough not to have analysed the infractural establishments that could make that possible, that not done makes his analysis hollow and lacks intellectual content. It is also not true you can have 6,000 by-products from crude, that is scientifically and realistically imposible. America buys daily more than half of Nigerian daily productions of Bonny Light crude because of its quality that enable them use the best technology available to them to extract 32 by-products from crude. Its totally imposible to get 6,000 products from crude no matter how heavenly endowed it could be, may be Otabil could provide more informations how he came by the research.

Ghana has cotton,therefore could be used in blending with some of the plastics like:
POLYESTER,NYLON,MICROFIBER,MICRO DENIAL ETC.
PLASTICS could also be blended with SILK,as well.
BUT WE IMPORT ALL THESE FROM THE FAR EAST.
That's not profitable to us,if our youth have no jobs,and also,no value added to the crude oil too.

That is to say, the oil is the life-wire of the USA economy. If the Ghana government enter into agreement with the US government to drill oil and develop the so called 6000 by products in Ghana, the US government will readily agree with such a contract or deal. Listen, the USA will build the needed companies or whatever you call it and employ Ghanaian citizens to work such companies. The USA will never bring workers from the USA to drill the OIL. They may bring the technicians and the money whilst the ordinary Ghanaian will be employed to do the work. Ever since we got independence from our colonial masters, Ghana has turned death ears to the white man. You are going to South African to get a company to drill your oil. FULL Ghanians, ask yourselves this question........Did the South Africans drive the white man away from South Africa after their independence??? Do the South Africans still rely on their colonial masters?????????????. The answers to all these questions is YES. So why not Ghana rely on the west. After all the white man did better to Ghana than all our governments starting from Nkrumah to John Mahama except president Kuffour. Please go get them because we the Ghanians will gain as much as developing the oil industry is concerned.

Mensa Otabil always strays out of the scripture he is supposed to preach and then he dabbles in political topics yet when the politicians find his political sermons helpful to their campaigns and they use them to score political points during their campaigns, the same Mensa Otabil then comes out to call these politicians Machiavelian and demonic evil men simply because he does not happen to support those politicians who are using his words to score the political points. After condemning the politicians, he himself then descends to the gutter and denies his own words and runs away from his own living word.

Why is it that this pseudo-politician does not want to copy the Christ-and-gospel-centred preaching style of Chris Oyakhilome, T. B. Joshua and a host of others who leave politics to the politicians and concentrate on saving souls or bringing people to a saving knowledge of Christ which is the central theme of the gospel?

I just hope that one day, Mensa Otabil will not demonize politicians when they find this very sermon of his helpful to their political campaign and they latch unto it to score political points. It seems to me that Mensa Otabil has either not learnt his lessons or he has no sense of shame!!!

Finally, if Mensa Otabil is being honest with Ghanaians, then he should tell us the whole truth and not half-truths. The whole truth is that our stake in the oil being drilled so far is just 13.5 per cent whilst the Americans have been given 86.5 per cent. Guess who gave out 86.5 per cent to the Americans? President J. A. Kuffour of the NPP; Mensa Otabil's own party. So is Mensa Otabil saying that he has no problem with this percentage of stakeholding given to Ghana? Notably, he has not uttered even one word on this stake holding arrangement for all these years. So is Mensa Otabil now saying that we should be content with our 13.5 per cent and we should then concentrate on getting the said 6,000 refined products from our paltry share of 13.5 percent stake or what? When our so-called men of God are not even sincere with us, it tells us the moral fabric of this country has collapsed irretrievably!!!

TOR was initially designed to refine low grade crude. It has an output capacity of about 6,000 metric tonnes per day", and this is according to the report.
Now, when one considers this figure of 1 billion dollars and the fact that from October to December of 2012, the NDC gov't led by John Mahama and Amissah Arthur managed to squander via dubious means a whooping 8.7 billion cedis equivalent to over a staggering 4 billion dollars in hard currency, at the expense of such critical investment in TOR, electricity power generation but to mention a few, which would have created jobs and thereby reduce the unemployment situation in the country and also improve on our electric power generation capacity, which has the twin benefits of spurring growth in industry and also reducing the cost of production with it's resultant positive effects of competitive cost effective products produced locally and additional capacity for export, then one is left with no other option than to massively vote out the recklessly corrupt, insensitive, indisciplined, irresponsible, highly incompetent NDC gov't out of power in 2016.
This is a clear case of a gov't that does not have any goals and objectives, programs and policies in addressing the socio-economic development and growth agenda of the citizenry through prudent, disciplined, visionary, pragmatic and mentally focussed and wise management of the new oil resource collectively for the good of the citizenry. Such a gov't team, in the face of such hardship that they have inflicted on the masses, as a result of such nation wrecking actions, have absolutely no business in gov't, NO and need to be shown the exit via the ballot box in 2016. Ghana cannot afford a looting NDC family and friends brigade, whose only quest in power is to loot and plunder the national kitty into oblivion and the doldrums, leaving the masses high and dry. The NDC gov't led by John Mahama and Amissah Arthur need to kiss the presidency goodbye in 2016, because Ghana, in the supreme interest of our collective sanity, deserve the utmost best.
