This is a better practical debate topic by a forward thinking preacher, not that wishful thinking Duncan. That being said, I think the solution to foreign dependence lies with first conducting an extensive reasearch into knowing ourselves and our own history. We need to go out there and see for ourselves. Thats where it begins from. Ones we turn the focus on asking questions about the ghanaian, why he does what he does, his limitations as an individual and what reinforces those limitations, we can actually start making progress.

Example1.
When a ghanaian identifies an open space or a piece of unused land in the middle of kaneshi for instance, two things happens. He either turns it into a trash site or he turns it into a sales point for pure water, lotto kiosk, phonecards etc.
The end result is, Kaneshi turns into a very filty and disorganized place only for government to come every so often to break down structures.

Solution
To prevent this, government needs to Task AMA to conduct a basic research to identify potential open spaces in the city and occuppy it with either some drought resistant city tress, some african sculptures or art work etc. Doing so will not only lead to our city gradually becoming beautiful over time, but the sanitation level will improve because a city's beauty is defined by its open spaces.
Thats what switzerland, newyork did to get thier cities looking like that. But it all starts with undestanding the individual ghanaian and his behaviour.

For example Osofo Otabil could set up cocoa processing factories, while Bishop Duncan goes into processing our gold.

When KWAME Nkrumah stated this fact in his book, Neo colonialism, 1965, the West quickly got Kotoka , Harley, Deku to take the lead and organise the 1966 coup.

Lets go set up factories, farms. Go produce rice, go drink cocoa, coconut, use sheabutter, eat cashew from B/A. Go produce solar energy and sell to VRA, go use solar energy in all churches, Islamic centres, etc let Ghanaian learn from the Ethiopians by doing what is good for us. We all know the paradox of Africa. That the soil under our feet in Africa filthy rich and yet we are poor. This is evident to even a three year old. That Africa possesses more than 54% of the wealth in the world is also well known. That only the congo basin can feed half of the world is also an open secret.

The Problem lies solely on visionless leaders without backbone. We need more scientists, engineers, doctors and factories not churches at every 50 meters radius which hold able bodied Ghanaians/Africans hostage.

The mushroom churhes are a contributing factor of Society remaining numb and not proactive.

So Otabil you and 419 cohorts are huge part of the problem and you will have to fix that first. As for our politicians you can talk until the cows home; there is nothing to write home about them.

We need a new beginning and it starts with the kindergarden. We need fresh, energetic and humble new Ghanaian/African to steer mothership Africa to a new horizon.

There area areas African cannot help but ask for foreign help to deal with issues: say a health epidermic malaria, smallpox, AIDS etc. Africa is not technological advance as western countries and don't have the financial resources to do research and come with the medicines for these epidemics so i partially disagree with the pastor. It will be inhumane to sit and wait for whole mass of people die instead of seeking help from countries that can help.

Ivory Coast just went thru a civil war if foreign countries like France did not intervene, the war will have continued and million Ivorians will have lost their lives.

The Akosombo dam was built with loans from foreign countires: USA. If Ghana did not seek for financial help, we will be sitting in darkness today.

Africa needs skills and technology to manage its resources. Sometimes, we don't have them homegrown. Say the oil discovery in Ghana. We knew we had oil but didn't have the right equipment and technology to get to it. A Foreign company had the skill and technology to get to it.

The issue is learning from the help we get, improving on it for our environment and growing from it. Don't be too proud to beg when people are suffering and dying.

Otherwise, you would be completely blinded by your attachment to these parties and would never see reasons with anyone. You don't support a political party like you support HEARTS and KOTOKO. When you do that, anything anybody says becomes a threat and meaningless to you. Is the PASTOR NOT GHANAIAN? What did he say about GHANA and AFRICA that is not TRUE? When you mentioned snow and the role it might play in the development of the countries that have it, it nearly brought me to tears. I live in the UNITED STATES and badly want to come home, but still not sure if it is a good decision because of the behavior of the politicians you are so much attached to. For what I have seen here, Africa and Ghana for that matter is blessed but we the people are very lazy. It is a blessing that WE DON'T HAVE SNOW. We CAN'T stand the cost of PLOWING IT on our ROADS. We CAN'T stand the cost of HEATING our HOMES. We CAN'T afford to change clothes to suit the weather considering our incomes. So once again, I say it is a BLESSING we find ourselves where we are. Otherwise, you would be completely blinded by your attachment to these parties and would never see reasons with anyone. You don't support a political party like you support HEARTS and KOTOKO. When you do that, anything anybody says becomes a threat and meaningless to you. Is the PASTOR NOT GHANAIAN? What did he say about GHANA and AFRICA that is not TRUE? When you mentioned snow and the role it might play in the development of the countries that have it, it nearly brought me to tears. I live in the UNITED STATES and badly want to come home, but still not sure if it is a good decision because of the behavior of the politicians you are so much attached to. For what I have seen here, Africa and Ghana for that matter is blessed but we the people are very lazy. It is a blessing that WE DON'T HAVE SNOW. We CAN'T stand the cost of PLOWING IT on our ROADS. We CAN'T stand the cost of HEATING our HOMES. We CAN'T afford to change clothes to suit the weather considering our incomes. So once again, I say it is a BLESSING we find ourselves where we are. IF YOU WERE TO BE IN BUSINESS,YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN THAT OUR LEADERS ARE NOT TRYING AT ALL.
They are still waiting for foreigners,who are not responding,to create jobs for the youth,who are always complaining for the lack in employment circles.
Our politicians lack business acumen,therefore,in the midst of plenty,the common man on the streets is still suffering.
Considering our educational/industrial system,we still lack the human capital to be used in addressing the challenges we encounter as a nation,because the kind of knowledge given to our school children are too archaic,backward with no critical thinking,innovation,top-notch technology,to address or ensure problem-solving.
IF OUR ECONOMIC STRATEGIES ARE WORKING,WHY IS THE DOLLAR STILL PUNCHING OUR CEDI,WITH DIRTY BLOWS,IT CANNOT DODGE AND ENDURE?
If our politicians are the answer,why are all these hardships our youth are encountering?

A chicken develops in its shell.It uses its tender,fragile,sensitive beak,to peck on the shell,from on the inside,to set itself free,to taste the best,the world has to offer it.

WHY PECKING WITH THE FRAGILE,DELICATE AND SENSITIVE BEAK,BUT NOT SETTLING FOR MEDIOCRITY,IN THE SHELL,IN THE PHASE OF THE TENDERNESS OF ITS BEAK?

It only prepares the beak to be used in pecking out of its mother's prey,from scratching the ground.
Therefore,the beak has to be subjected into some minimal training to be apt and about,to be used in eating,when it is finally out of the shell.

AFRICA HAS TO LEARN FROM THE LITTLE POOR CHICKEN,IN THE SHELL,WHO STRUGGLES TO COME OUT,IN THE PHASE OF THE BATTLE IT FACES,WITH ITS TENDER BEAKS,FOR FREEDOM.

First,we have to know that God has already given us some gifts,talents(skills) and abilities,to use to feed ourselves and for everything we would ever need,on this planet earth.
WE HAVE TO FIND THAT,FIRST.
But we live in ignorance,thinking everything has to be done for us.
If AFRICA,WILL START TO FEEL AND THINK ABOUT THE BACKWARDNESS,IGNORANCE & LIMITATIONS,SHE HAS PLUNGED HERSELF IN ,SHE WILL START TO MAKE SOME CHANGES THAT ARE NECESSARY TO ADDRESS PROBLEMS AND MISTAKES,THAT HAVE BEWITCHED AND CRIPPLE US,FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL.

We are claiming back what has been taken from us through various mechanisms instituted by our exploiters with the help of our colluding corrupt leaders who think nothing of helping the masses.If we have sincere leaders who love their country and try to win back all that has been stolen from us,Dr Otabil would not dub the exchange as begging.
Unluckily,our leaders would rather connive with our exploiters to steal from us and to add insult to injury stash the loot in the banks of the exploiters.Then once in a while,they fly over to have medical check-ups and inspect how their loot has accumulated.
If African leaders act like those of Japan,all the so called"begging" Dr Otabil is talking about could have been used to transform the African continent after have a century of self-rule.

It is sad that Ghana with all the mineral resources are looking for investors to help us. We send our gold overseas and they make rings, chains, ear rings and other ornaments and sell it to us; we send our crude oil overseas which flimsy excuse that it cannot be refined at Tema and then go back to buy the refined oil from them at a higher cost; we send our timber overseas and they make furniture and the "jubilee house" goes to buy them to furnish the offices of the President and co, etc., CAN'T WE THINK FOR ONCE". If as a nation we can think and make use of all these natural resources here, there will be no unemployment in the country, but what do we see? They care for themselves more than the citizens to the extent that even when they are sick, they go overseas to take care of themselves and their families while the poor Ghanaian dies at Korle Bu hospital for lack of a simple blood and rugs. The African mentality is porous and the earlier we change our attitude, the better.

Mensa Otabil knows more than what he is telling us. He knows that the under development in Africa is not as simplistic as he is saying and that it is a very complicated story of supression of Africa by the West because of our resources and secondly, the lack of political consciousness by the masses in Africa about this fact and thirdly, bad leaders who are aware of these facts and are taking advantage of the situation to dance according to the tune played by the West in order to play it save and to enrich themselves personally in the process.

However, Otabil would never state it exactly as it is because he cannot stand the consequences of such plain and honest pro-African rhetoric. He loves the good life he is having more than the upliftment of the poor suffering people of Africa. Otabil only makes these vague and empty statements to fool the masses to believe that he has something to offer when he has nothing absolutely to offer Ghanaians. If Otabil really believes in such pan-African ideas, tell me one instance when he has praised Kwame Nkrumah for taking such stance and paying the price for it. Certainly, Otabil cannot say that he does not know that the West teamed up with some Ghanaian traitors to bring Kwame Nkrumah down in order to destroy all his efforts to break us free from economic dependency on the West!!!

Priests are just as well in the business of begging. When they impress their congregation to make donations, same as people impress Europeans to claim donations, who gives priests the moral high ground to criticise those 'others'.

Remember, begging in the name of God to enrich the clergy is a higher moral sin than overexagerating one's poverty to seek donations from Europe. For example; priests invoke the name of a sacred entity and instill the fear of eternal damnation in their congregation to receive donations. In the other case, individuals and states appeal to the conscience of Europeans, but do not use threats, to claim donations. The first example is more criminal and morally reprehensible.

Priests can, especially if they have chosen the path of wealth, contribute to politics by playing a leading role in the provision of much needed amenities at almost no cost to the people. Only when they manage to achieve such selfless devotion to service can we start taking them seriously. Otherwise, they should stop wasting everyone's time and devote their attention fully to cheating their congregation and providing false hope.

This is a better practical debate topic by a forward thinking preacher, not that wishful thinking Duncan. That being said, I think the solution to foreign dependence lies with first conducting an extensive reasearch into a knowlege of self. Thats where it begins from. Ones we turn the focus on asking questions about the ghanaian, why he does what he does, his limitations as an individual and what reinforces those limitations, we can actually start making progress.

Example1.
When a ghanaian identifies an open space or a piece of unused land in the middle of kaneshi for instance, two things happens. He either turns it into a trash site or he turns it into a sales point for pure water, lotto kiosk, phonecards etc.
The end result is, Kaneshi turns into a very filty and disorganized place only for government to come every so often to break down structures.

Solution
To prevent this, government needs to Task AMA to conduct a basic research to identify potential open spaces in the city and occuppy it with either some drought resistant city tress, some african sculptures or art work etc. Doing so will not only lead to our city gradually becoming beautiful over time, but the sanitation level will improve because a city's beauty is defined by its open spaces.
Thats what switzerland, newyork did to get thier cities looking like that. But it all starts with undestanding the individual ghanaian and his behaviour.

2. We must buy made in Ghana/ African goods.
3. The government must extend six years tax holiday for African firms to enable them grow.
4. African firms must pay the best wages to their employees to motivate self support and for their families
5.Do not expect foreigners to shape your life; it is against nature
6. Remove your mental limitations
7. Government should wake up economic consciousness of the people
8. Remember donors are not your friend and Nkrumah paid for pan Africanism.
9. Rely on your inherent skills to build Africa.
