Ghana, Rise up!! Wake up!! In this situation in which we find ourselves today, it would even be unwise for Nana Addo/NPP to talk about free SHS if he is in power today. Two hundred SHS are not the nation's priority even though building 200 SHS is good. How can we look on to see Mahama waste our little resources on 200 SHS while we all know that he cannot effectively complete this project. We have no water , electricity, roads, food, and good healthcare (basic amenities. We have not been able to bring quality to our existing SHS why do we continue building more low quality SHS? Only God knows the type of SHS Mahama is going to put up. I learned in this article that they are waiting for support from the World Bank Which means, the they have not even received a dollar from the World Bank but they are cutting sod just in the name of politics and propaganda.

WHOEVER BROUGHT OUT THIS FREE EDUCATION POLICY TO THE GOVERNMENT HAS BROUGHT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN TO ITS KNEES. IT WAS NOT A WELL THOUGHT OUT POLICY. Is Nana ruling the nation? Nana can promise Ghana to be like paradise where the saints are, until he wins elections and decides to make any move, who cares about what he says? Nana didn't have teachers to pay when he was saying this. If he had won, then, in the face of all the problems facing the nation, he wouldn't just be allowed to overlook all others to fulfill campaign promise just for next election. Remember, nobody also spoke about Mahama's stance on education during the campaign.

So all along how many papers have this educationist submitted to the government, outlining how to give quality to education in the country? Infact, these people are doing this country a great diservice than we can imagine. What was he waiting for all this time! Anyway, the government will go ahead with this program no matter what. I would have wished he said the samething when Akufo Addo was drumming it. Come what may, the governmnet will go ahead. If you are not endow with knowledge, no amount of what one calls quality education can change you. Enough of this hypocrisy!

I think Ghana's problem is just as simple as this, either a bunch of people who knows everything about their world but doing nothing or people who does everything in their world but knows nothing about what they are doing.
Anyway, I see many viewpoint about free education going to work or not but with none of the two sides actually making convincing debate about why they views hold water other than useless political rancour without sense.
Bottom line, is our education currently better because we pay fees? Is paying for education that makes it better? So we mean the intrinsic value that makes education better is the fees? If one gets scholarship to study in Oxford or Harvard their level of education would be worse because they had it for free? Where are our philosophers to help with this simple thinking?
So if any government no matter their party affiliation decide to pay for the fees of every SHS student as free as scholarship how would this 'offer of hand' to children damage their education? If higher fees guarantee quality education in Ghana why don't we charge each SHS child £30,000 per year?
I believe the lower level problems of Ghana's SHS education are from issues much more nastier than fees.

We have people even the U.S. who finish college and for a while don't have jobs. In other words, there is 3.5 graduate unemployment even in U.s. Most people in U.S. don't know what they want to do after college until they happen to be hired somewhere. A person after college is capable of doing anything. All he may need is a little on- job training. Our problem is not that people do not know what to do with their lives. It is sufficient for people to want to work. The only problem is that in developing countries jobs don't spring up easily in the face of high export taxes imposed by the developed countries. Our own unweanable dependence on imported goods is also a major culprit among many others.
Don't despise Ghanaians. It is not easy for the poor to get up any where whether as individuals or as nations, for the rich will make sure the poor is always kept down. It takes time and struggle to overcome. Moreover, free education and quality education are not mutually exclusive: let's give everybody a chance. Where there's a will, there's a way!
