You pay them for doing that. You must therefore USE YOUR HEAD and NOT YOUR EMOTIONS to ASSESS THEIR PERFORMANCE. By so doing, Their WORK can be FAIRLY ASSESSED. If they do A GOOD JOB, you RETAIN them. If they DON'T you KICK THEM OUT, and if they are found to have COMMITED A CRIME, you PROSECUTE THEM. This is the ONLY WAY our COUNTRY can PROGRESS. Let us also RESPECT and EMBRACE EVERY TRIBE in GHANA; we are STRONGER by so doing. We HAVE everything it takes to MAKE OUR LIVES BETTER. COMMITMENT, HARD WORK and SELFLESSNESS can help us do it. BE FAITHFUL and LOYAL to GHANA. IT is the only place you can be respected and be recognized as a HUMAN BEING, so why can't we MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE for us. I WISH ALL CITIZENS OF GHANA WELL. The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has in a statement described the Mahama-led administration as a “crassly incompetent and bereft government”.
They also called on Ghanaians to stand up and “seek our hope and fight for our right” due to the mismanagement of the economy by the NDC government.
According to the group, Ghanaians are “confronted with the greatest challenge of all times,” adding that, “the President and his team C men have nothing worthy to offer”.
Below is the full statement
Fellow Country Men, we are confronted with the greatest challenge of all times; the reign of a crassly incompetent and bereft government. It is obvious the President and his team C men have nothing worthy to offer.
The youth employment program has been collapsed by share greed of a few NDC men, a state treasured asset "Merchant Bank" been sold out to the NDC and members of the President's family, Woyome's money not been retrieved (and likely for the state to lose the case because the default judgment has not been contested or set aside by the AG), Waterville’s 22 million euro retrieval in limbo.
NHIS not paid providers for over 7 months, over 1.3 billion Ghana cedis not been accounted for in 2012 due ghost excess spending by MDAs, over a whopping $70million misapplied at GYEEDA, massive revenue leakage at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the John Mahama led "baloney" $10 billion STX deal which saw Ghana paying $245 million to Korean partners as "political risk insurance". Ghana lost such amount of money in what looked like a well orchestrated scandal.
Fellow Ghanaians, it is still very magical how an Umbraer jet which was meant to cost $28.5 million after John Mahama's led negotiations was purchased at an astonishing sum of $88million(The configuration of the airplane included an extra fuel tank costing $8 million; air staircase costing $1 million and in-flight entertainment of $1.4 million.
It is however ridiculous to think that $17million was earmarked to build a hangar to house the airplane. Mr. President 'the plane dey be keke'). In the midst of all this huge scandals and vicious examples set by the president and his allies, why will they not be looking forward to acquiring a state bank for safe keeping of our looted treasury?
REWARD OF CORRUPTION
AFAG in its research, can confirm that the "African Sun" hotel been built at the airport city belongs to Waterville's Teraconi and the famous Alfred Agbesi Woyome. What an interesting combination. In all these, Ghanaians continue to suffer at the expense of such greedy bastards.
Mr. President why do you prosecute Abuga Pele of causing financial loss to the tune of $2million, while, the Italian Teraconi's Waterville has been ordered by the court to pay 22 million euro(not enforced), and the AG is yet to set aside the default judgment which granted Woyome his life time dream cash for no job done.
ECONOMY vs. CORRUPTION
It is clear that, taxpayers monies have been misused over the past 5 years. Investor confidence has dwindled. Businesses are collapsing, social vices on the rise, almost every wealth creating institution is calling for change of economic direction.
The AGI, GUTA, GEA are all calling for common sense economic policies to save the private sector. The results of lack of money due to gargantuan corruption have led to over taxation, high prices of goods and services, capital flight and cedi depreciation
MASS ACTION
Fellow Ghanaians, the time is now for us to stand up and be counted. It is our God given responsibility to rise up to the occasion. We must seek our hope and fight for our right. The Onus is on all of us; young and old, individuals and groups, rich and poor, unemployed and business men to support the cause of change.
A change of attitude and pursuit of all criminals we harbor as businessmen. We must get set anytime soon for this call to press forward for some level of integrity, accountability and transparency from government.

We are not talking about those countries for Christ sake! We are talking about Ghana. I've also travelled to and lived in the countries you mentioned before and Ghana takes the cake.
Even ten years ago, I would have agreed with you but at this moment in time, I beg to differ.
Have you tried sending anything home through the ports of Ghana lately?
Try that and come back and tell me if the Africa Watch publication is misleading. Every official you deal with at the port will fleece you to the bone. And then when pay through the nose to get your car and other items and driving to your town, the police on the highways will also pounce on you, asking for "ice water" money at every police checkpoint using flimsy excuses like you don't have a fire extinguisher in the car or cars you just cleared from the port. And there are many police checkpoints on the way when you are driving from Tema to Sekondi.
And just when you thought you had been fleeced enough, you go to the local government office to check on a piece of land you had paid for years before in order to start developing it, then everybody in that office starting from the clerk to the 'big man' sees you as 'father christmas' in town, and the fleecing starts all over again.
So you tell me which fibre of the Ghanaian populace doesn't have this "disease" of bribery and corruption in its bone right now.
That Africa watch piece is right spot on the money.

The party called NDC cannot stand the truth. Your sheinanigans is now world known. And you have been indicted in the world of peoples' opinion . Shame on you and your massive corrupt practices.Shame on you on your "create, loot and share" mantra, shame on you and your empty and hollow "probity and accountability" propaganda that only regressed the country under murderous Rawlings rule, as he sold state assets to benefit his family and cronies. Today the world knows what you stand for; lies, upon lies only to enrich yourself. You are able to stand and abuse the people because the security forces and the judiciary has become a political wing of The NDC. And Rawlings did just that to protect his own skin after 20yrs of murder, thuggery and no achievement with abuse of the highest order. We are thinking unilateral decration of independence from a clan that is hell bent on wrecking havoc. Enough is enough.

I think the government shouldn´t give attention to that toilet margazine. I am not sure what they mean by corruption in this governnment if they did not see anything that looks like corruption during the 8 years rule of Kufour, the accomplished thief. Left to me alone, the government should not respond at all. The NPP can continue to do whatever they like against this country, and we the people will decide who to rule us at the end. After all, Mahama has not honour himself with a gold chain hanging on his dirty black and shrinking twisted neck.He did not steal our oil money and shared it among his cronies. Akomea, Kyei Bonso, continue in that direction. Mr president, Ghanaians are fully behind you and we are not strangers in our own country for toilet margazine news paper to tell us what we don´t know.

I find it extremely difficult to see why any sincere individual will dare not say Ghana is a corrupt nation. If you're a first-time visitor or a tourist to Ghana, on entery through Kotoka Airport, immediately on your arrival you're welcomed by a indisciplined and unprincipled corrupt officials who demand money. There have been noted cases where visitors' luggages have been tempered with and looted. Also found the corrupt Ghana Police Service is not much helpful either but as a people Ghanaians are very welcoming individuals. What makes the country so corrupt is beyond words of explanation.

Mr President be real. What signals do you think you have been sending to the international community. You have been portrayed as weak and incompetent because of how you have led the nation. There have been countless numbers of scandals which culminated in the bizarre sale of Merchant Bank and your brothers involvement. Most Western leaders avoid letting their families into such scandals because of perception. On you part you did not even seem to be worried about your brothers indebtedness to a bank that was becoming bankrupt and the being purchased by a company with very little transparent source of financiers. Are you kidding me, it made you look really bad in the eyes of most Ghanaians as well as foreigners. Sadly we all see you as the epitome of corruption and Ghana is slowly gaining reputation as the political capital of the world.

The paper should not render any apology from any stupid lair leading us as "fake president". Who in his/her right do not know that this government is rife with corruption. Mahama is the head and tail of all the corruption going on in the country. What happened to the plane load of gold intercepted by Iran? Mahama was bold to look into the eyes of Ghanaians and lied that nothing like that ever happened because he had already told us that "Ghanaians have short memories" in the sense that we hardly remember something that took place yesterday, meaning we are stupid to use our brains.

I'm a Ghanaian for sure but personally, I'm not corrupt so I don't give a shit. Water off a duck's back. If you felt insulted, then you are definitely guilty of the crime.
I have gone home 3 times in the last 2 years and I was really disappointed because every single Ghanaian in position of authority I dealt with was corrupt. Right from the port custom officers, the police on our highways, the clerk in the local government offices all fleeced me. They all used their positions of authourity to make my life miserable for services they are paid for to render free of charge to Ghanaians and I was a Ghanaian even if I was living in overseas. It was my entitlement to receive those services without extra charges over the normal service charges. But these corrupt officials trampled over my rights to get those services for free as required.
So if that article is referring to all of us as corrupt, so be it.But as far as I'm concerned, it's the government of the day which is responsible for allowing this "disease" to filter down to the lowest office clerk who can ask for bribes with impunity because there's no accountability on anyone's part.
They all know nothing can be done to them.

Steve Mallory is the ultimate definition of a classic fool and he knows it. He has displayed the very trait of classroom educated people who at any turn display their inability to employ logical thought processes to arrive at feasible and reasoned conclusion on issues of the day. Here what we see is an absolute jerk trying to score shameless political points without reason. To question the clergy, members of parliament and others in a country which you have tagged to be a republic of corruption is to show clearly Steve Mallory is simply not up to par with common sense. Would a corrupt government not have come into existence because of a corrupt voting public that uses its power to vote into office corrupt representatives? Would a corrupt society incapable of change not have resulted because of a failed and morally bankrupt clergy that failed to bring their respective congregation into the mainstream of a moral society?
Ghana has not had a balanced budget since 1966. Ghana has not had adequate and continuous supply of electricity, water, telephone services, ample roads etc not because of a single person in Ghana but because of all who have had a hand in governing, enacting and enforcement of the laws of the nation. It also include those who have managed institutions and agencies of government that provide services to the people and or make decisions intended to shore up the daily operations of government and or the social heartbeat of the nation. If at January 1st 2009, Ghana had its government in order I could see where the blame would squarely rest on the shoulders of the current president John Mahama’s administration but that's not the case here. Ghana was in debt, the courts were losing evidence left and right, the police were still collecting bribes from operators of motorized vehicles on Ghana’s roads, members of parliament were busy building their nest egg by adding more wages to their over bloated salaries while government institutions were busy screwing everyone in Ghana who expected government services for the money they pay the government. On top of it all Ghana was in debt and the ports and harbor incapable of accounting for revenues from harbor transactions. At what point did the clergy, parliament, the courts and institutions in Ghana get a reasoned passing grade for their work done up t December 31, 2008? So to seek opinion of the very corrupt elite class in Ghana their take on government is to tacitly approve and condone political and tribal biases from the survey participants. I will not even dignify Steve Mallory with the title of a mister.

Africa Watch please, please, please don't issue any apology whatsoever. You hit the nail squarely on the head.
We've been telling these dickheads of politicians that they were corrupt, thieves, and don't give a shit about what is happening in the country and they never listened to us. Now they see and read the same thing in a worthy magazine and all of a sudden they have their hackles up and ask for a retraction and an apology. Please keep on publishing more corrution news under this governmentand don't mind those thieves in the flagstaff house. They brought it on themselves. The only sad part is that the big western media is not saying anything about the massive corruption in Ghana, therefore, giving the false hope to these fools of politicians that they are immuned from criticism and they are doing ok.The Western media will prop up any corrupt African government as long as it flies the "were are a democratic government" banner even if the general popuation is collapsing under the weight of corruption.
So to the Africa Watch Magazine.... BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!!!. Give the Ghana government a run for their money. Let them take you to court and prove that they are not corrupt. The onus will be on them. Those thieves have no shame for even having the audacity to ask this magazine to apologize. "The evil that men do lives after them", it is said. Oh how truthful that is.

I have news for the Presidency. The article by Africa Watch is true and valid. Everybody knows it. The magazine does not need to apologize for something which is deemed to be the truth by everybody in Ghana. Ghana's is a kleptocracy. It is true that the perception of thievery has been the bane of Ghana since its founding. Yet the degree of stealing has assumed incredible proportions! In the past, some of what has been perceived as stealing has been merely the issue of people in high political office using what information is available to them, but not to the rest of the population, to act in ways that made them look wealthy. This included things like using the Scholarship Secretariat to send their children overseas because the people in the know knew when scholarships became available and used this information to apply for their children. Fast forward all these years, and now we have multiple instances of the modern politicians simply stealing state resources. Witness the Woyome affair, and other palavas which are now in the public domain. Ghanaian politicians can be as offended as they want to be, but unless they begin cleaning up their acts, this perception of complete corruption will persist. The Presidency itself is deemed to be the den of the thieves. All citizens of Ghana believe this. If the Presidency want an apology from all of us, they must rid themselves of the actions which make us develop this belief. The message of official corruption gets passed on through private conversations all the time. The fact is all political parties are tainted. Hell, all citizens of Ghana are tainted. All one has to do is walk into any office, and one gets extorted by everyone from clerks to secretaries to Principal Secretaries, all the way up.

I don't know how old you are, but if you slightly have a hint of our motherland's history; post independence you will appreciate my angle of reasoning that the UP tradition has always been our main problem besides the corruption canker meted out to our poor folks by unscrupulous politicians.
Any nation on the path of development would definitely encounter challenges but when there is a constant negative mitigating factor from within our very intellect who should be helping the momentum and drive force of industrialization reach a crescendo, then I personally have a problem.
JB Danquah had no moral jurisdiction to question Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's integrity when JB was ready to sell his motherland for a longer colonial governance period because in his myopic wisdom, credit should never be taken by his own kinsfolk; an Nzema boy from Nkroful!
Does it really matter which region leads us out from our wretched and pathetic state of not being able to turn raw materials to finished products? The sinews that hold a nation together in development, is working together as a team! But the NPP/ UP tradition would never allow any government to succeed that is not part of their ilk.
Kwadwo Osei, who now parades himself as a "white boy" probably from the Midwest would bid their call to destabilize his own country damning the consequences or hardships that could bring to an unborn generation.
Who does not know that corruption is on the ascendency in Ghana? Do you think anyone would have given a second glance at KWADWO OSEI's slur had he not hid behind the pseudonym of a Caucasian name? Most ignorant people on this forum, unfortunately NPP/UP SYMPATHIZERS, probably think this guy is a Western European with some substance that is why I am trying to bring out his true nature for people to judge from his own credibility. After all didn't Ghanaians reject Akuffo Addo because of his perceived arrogance and drug addiction problems?
The integrity of a man stands the test of time where charlatans have failed!
God bless mother Ghana!

Dear Dr. Apaak: I really hope you find some time to read the responses to your demand of apology from someone who is brave enough to throw the stench of "corruption" with this NDC government in the public domain. Overwhelmingly the responses are against your request for apology. Sorry the TRUTH hurts! One does not DEMAND respect - one EARNS it !!
I do not know which country you think you are living in? Corruption has become more endemic under this NDC government and the scandals the past five years are evidence to what Mr Mallory call the "Corruption Republic". Accept the obvious and get to work to prevent all those who go into political office to partner with others to loot the national assets with impunity and without punishment when caught.
A positive legacy to prevent CORRUPTION is now available to this President and the NDC. Do not waste the opportunity with an ostrich like demand for apology. GET TO WORK with the legal structures that will clean the stench !!!

Or do you think there is less corruption in Italy , Austria , France or Germany ? Only a few weeks ago it was no crime in Germany to bribe a member of parliament ! Almost all italian politicians are known to be corrupt. Almost every french president has been accused of demanding bribes. Think of eastern Europe--Kosovo , Serbia. Croatia !Sure , we have to change our ways. Our economy is too weak to stand so much corruption, But to say Ghana is more corrupt than other nations is absolute ^nonsense. We have had cases here in Europe with ministers of state organizing the smuggling Business.

Corruption has diffused throughout all sectors of the economy. Who doesn't know that. Is this official serious or just kidding to demand an apology from Africa Watch for saying the truth. I think the government should apologize to Ghanaian for doing such a bad job for allowing corruption to rule the country. Who is monitoring who. It is really sad for our great to suffer such a misfortune. For example corruption at Rent Control Office in Kumasi- Ashanti is at it's peak and so many areas, BUT WHO IS MONITORING WHO if we are all corrupt. The best thing that will ever happen to Ghana in this 21st century is to go back to colonization. We need the white man to rule over us again. We are not capable of governing a nation.

If it is 1billion, where is the 400million dollars and if it is not 1billion dollars, why would the China lie about the amount?
Under the NDC gov't, corruption has assumed a global and international dimension. The last time we checked Ghana was racing past almost every country to assume the title of the world title holder of officially sanctioned/gov't approved looting of state assets and thievery on a scale, which would blow your mind. Corruption and thievery under the NDC gov't is through the stratosphere and it's sickening. Ghana deserves better.
