  Why has it taken the christian council decades to come out with this? We are struggling as a without knowing what we are looking for. I agree 100% with this national goal, irrespective of what political party in power, we have to stick to certain socio-economic goal for a period of time that no political party can deviate from it. Going extra mile to achieve something in addition to what has been set for a government within a period of time will become a credit to that political party and its government. Politics is destroying and wasting our resources, a clear example is the abandoning of projects initiated by previous opposing government. There should be a sacrifice somewhere for our great grandchildren. We think of only today, which is really bad and selfish. Winner takes all to the extend that once you attach yourself to one political party, even if you are genius in a field that is sensitive for nation-building, you have to rot till your party comes to power. What kind of mentality is this? Ghana cannot also become one-party state, you have to belong to a party. My brothers and sisters on the forum, this is a serious issue, we have to collectively build Ghana.

  Ghanaian Leaders and administrator have not only failed Ghana but also God in big time. Not only have they mismanaged the rich resources that God gave Ghanaians for dev. They've stole and pocketed large amount of revenuess from these resources the country needs for her socio-economic development. Unless our political leaders learn from past errols, beg God for forgiveness, stop stealing the revenues needed for Ghana's development and use it for that purpose, Ghana's dev. would never happen. Don't let us fool ourselves.

  MANY OF OUR SO CALLED EDUCATED STILL REMAIN UNCONVINCED OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SCIENTOIFIC INNOVATION IN CREATING ECONOMIC GROWTH.

  Dr, Your thoughts are good, but remember, when you are dealing with people in govt. who do not understand the word "patriot" but how fast to be a millionaire, then there is a problem. When you have a ruling party that believes in winner takes all attitude, then there is a problem. When you have a military dictator turned politician and rules a country for 20ys and sell state assets to benefit his family and cronies , then there is a problem. The failure for Ghana to develop is squarly placed in the house of the military coups, and more so Rawlings, who murdered his way to the top and run the country to the ground.The same trend continues under all NDC govts. till today. So if we are moving backwadrs after 57 yrs., there lies your answer.

  'Ghana is a sleeping economic giant with the enormous resources available to us. The time has come for us to dream and develop a comprehensive vision for our country for the next ten years and beyond collectively as a people'
  
  Christian Council is right. We need vision as a country. We need to decide where we want to go as a country, and how we will get there.
  
  We must empower the National Development Planning Commission to prepare a short-term (10 years), medium-term (20 years) and long-term(30 years) national development plan in consultation with the political parties, academia, professional bodies, civil society and religious bodies, and the wider public.
  
  This would be subject to approval by parliament and binding on all political parties. The mode of implementing the plan would be the basis of party manifestos.
  
  Implementation of the plan would be monitored and lessons learnt used to prepare further plans on a rolling basis 8 years into every 10-year period.
  
  This would help foster national cohesion and even development with a common understanding of where our nation is heading.
  
  This is the time to forge our own destiny and break free from the stranglehold of neocolonial economic domination.
